My brother-in-law's brother had a 1981 CL9000 w/435hp x 892 jade grenade and a 13 over, "Hi-Level" interior. It worked for TRIMAC hauling an alcohol tanker. It was the first cabover I got to ride in when I was like 12~13. Super Minty video there Bud, thanks. (Thumb up #201)
I wonder if Ford sold the fully suspended cab idea overseas? Every Cabover there has it. Ford was ahead of time in that design! It was also one of the handsomest looking trucks out there.
Those things were awful in a corner. I knew a couple guys that ran them and they said it felt like you were rolling over. Neither one of them stayed working for that company. I never had any desire to try one.
Drove one for a short time. If you hade one with the air ride cab it was the best riding truck ever and quietest truck you will ever drive even to day. That bad side side was it hade no road feel and suffered from problems with whirring and cab suspension problems. The truck was always felt like it was going to tip over at every corner.
Greetings from the Ohio Porters.🇺🇸 This was some good stuff to watch! 🤩 Ford really built some nice rigs back in the day! 😎 My brother saw one that had been sitting for some time, after it was used for several years, and asked about it. The owner finally called him up and my brother was thrilled to be the new owner of it. The CL9000 is rather tall and long! 😳 I can’t wait to be able to take it for a little stretch out on the road. I miss seeing these wonderful old beautiful rigs out on the road...can remember when cabovers were quite a normal site on the highways. 🥰 Again, GOOD STUFF! 🤩
I remember those trucks, I never drove one, but the big bunk option had a huge sleeper for its day, very roomy. I worked with a guy that owned one and he and my boss at the time, (I drove one of his trucks) were leased on to Roadway Package System years ago before FedEx ground bought them out. I remember thinking how lucky it must be to have that roomy sleeper. I drove a 1987 Freightliner cabover single axle with the regular sleeper going from NJ to Fl to PA and back to NJ. I heard it was a scary truck in turns sometimes until you got used to how the air ride cab handled.
thank you for posting this. Really enjoyed it and quite taken with the classy overall presentation. I purchased one out of Oak harbour WA and had it shipped to NZ via RORO and it is my current project. Has a Detroit 8v92 silver series turbo charged engine and manufactured 1981. It has the round single headlights and the top interior option. Very pleased I purchased it when I did; they are a bit scarce now I believe, and one doesnt see a lot of them at truck show events. Currently mine is the only one I know of in the NZ. Cheers A
You have a CL9000 with a 2 stroke in it here in NZ?!! I have to see it, please tell me you are somewhere in the North Island. I'd love to see one in the flesh. Cheers, Mike
When this came out cab overs were the norm and it's mega sleeper were the rave. I've never sat in one but they sure caught my eye when you would see one. Thanks for the video
Ford was kool building those CL9000 Cabovers back 40 years ago then late 90s came when less reliable Sterling came along that's thing went down.Mack also had similar platform aswell just like Ford CL9000 .
Good video good info I saw a Ford 9000 dump truck many years ago it wasn't a cabover though Sharp truck though There's a Ford 9000(I think it's a 9000) log truck that's running around where I live neat rig definitely something you don't see much of anymore
I drove a 79 CL9000, supposedly had a 350 horsepower Cummins. It couldn't pull very good at all. I pulled the governor housing off and it had a number 37 fuel plunger!! I put in a number 7 added 4 maybe 5 shims , now that woke up that engine, plus got a half mile to the gallon better fuel mileage , from 5.5 to 6 MPG The truck it's self was good, had a great heater. the cab was tight, I liked the dash, Ford set the gauges so that when normal, the needle was at the 3 o'clock position so you could tell at a glance if there was a problem.
I have a few brochures from the early 1980s if you want to do something similar. I have a Mack packet from 1985 (I think) that has numerous model brochures, including a Powerliner. A Western Star brochure. A full line Marmon brochure and even a Scania brochure.
Corporate: Alright guys, we need you to sell a flying wall Marketing: Is it literally a wall? Engineering: Well we riveted some flaps to it Marketing: "Advanced aerodynamic design"
I can't remember the year but Mike Parkhurst of OVERDRIVE magazine. Test drove one to the Mid America truck show in Louisville the year they came out i think 76 as a 77. Dad looked at getting one but they were to heavy to pull a skateboard for Ligon. If memory serves.
1984?? There was still hope back then........This phrase will mean nothing to many but a very few will understand.
Top-notch video, Ford needs to bring it back!
The Whole Industry Died when These Trucks went away.

Maybe so, but it sure is collectible!
Caldwell Truck Lines of Lenoir NC ran them back in the day. I always thought they were a Beautiful truck.
The white one with a blue decal was also used in the movie called armed and dangerous
Great movie. Hauling rocket fuel!

I gotta see it! Post a picture or video?

They was the sharpest trucks came out on the market I bought one with the big Detroit in it 15 speed man I miss her
Very much enjoyed that... Thank you for putting it together and sharing!
Trucks in 70's and 80's had sharp looking paint schemes
YEAH!!!
These were said to have the biggest cab space out all cab overs.
The Ford CL 9000 was the best and most stylist looking cabover truck back in the day and still looks sharp in 2021.
Still is !
I loved these trucks, I never actualy got to drive one but my dad sold them, we called it a 2 story Pinto, LOL
When this came out cab overs were the norm and it's mega sleeper were the rave. I've never sat in one but they sure caught my eye when you would see one. Thanks for the video
HI TO ALL ON HERE TONIGHT GREAT VIDEO ON HERE LOVE IT ALL

I think if Ford CL 9000 trucks where here today they would sell !!! Ford needs to bring back the big trucks. THEY HAVE CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran a double wide 2 story falcon back in 1991.
Cool brochure love old stuff
That was a really nice truck in there day . I remembered when they came out with the areomax that was the first heavy truck with real good headlights
A big ten four there rubber duck
Dad had a maroon one like pictured. That truck was pretty sharp in its time.
I always loved a 9000
BRING BACK C.O.E's , no reason for the demise ....
But bring them all back with the flat floor.
I’m too old to be shimmying my butt up over the doghouse to get into the sleeper
Good video good info

Yeah, still tons of L9000 around. Even a few tons still have them plowing.
I drove a 79 CL9000, supposedly had a 350 horsepower Cummins.

Drove a few cabovers in the late 70’s and early 80’s but never one of these
Drove a CLT9000 in mid 80s the place I worked we’re the 2nd or 8th owner or somewhere in between,,, the wiring was a nightmare
I would love to have one right now stretch . Yeh
I would drive one today.
I think that was the 1st cabover with an air ride cab
From early reviews the four point air mounts really wobbled during turns. It caused more than a few drivers to think they were going to roll over.
@@Dailydieseldose315 👍😂yeah I remember that now, looked like one of those bouncing toys that people used to have on the rear deck lid of the car.
¡¡ FORD FORT !!

I thought the first year for the CL was 1978, perhaps that was when they first started appearing in Atlantic Canada where I live.
Its possible. It was probably announced in 77 and came out in force around 78.
I can't remember the year but Mike Parkhurst of OVERDRIVE magazine. Test drove one to the Mid America truck show in Louisville the year they came out i think 76 as a 77. Dad looked at getting one but they were to heavy to pull a skateboard for Ligon. If memory serves.
how the cab suspension work? thanks
I wish Ford still made them... it's a shame.
What band played that tune? Very funky
"To the sun and back" -Take Tribe.
kman 4443 Thanks
I bet they could of made it flat floor, I mean the cab looks like its jacked up enough to allow it
