I grew up a half block from Echo Park. My grade school bus stop was at the corner of the park, and I spent many an afternoon "exploring" the whole park. The "island" was my favorite place. I used to pretend I was a character in some book and lost in "the jungle" as an explorer... or big game hunter... or escaping from the natives. What a marvelous childhood I had, considering I had to grow up in one of the largest cities in the world! From my porch, I watched Hwy 101 (the freeway he shows in this video) being dug out of the dirt and constructed. On weekends, I would play with my toy dump truck and road grader in the dirt, surrounded by the actual machinery. I remember the old men playing chess on the wooden picnic tables, under the shade of the palm trees, and kids on bicycles riding along the pathways. Feeding the ducks was my most favorite pastime. Across the street from the park, between the park and the freeway, was a recreation center and a small concrete wading pool we used in the summer. There was a playground next to the rec center, with swings and a big slide and other kid rides, while my mom would wax her Studebaker car in the shade under palm trees where she could watch me.
I'm so glad to see her get rejuvenated. Thank you for this video.
PS I was born in 1948, to give you a sense of the times when I lived there.

I hope one day we can meet and share a drink together.
Edit: I decided to buy a trailer that will be parked in a permanent(ish) spot via renting a lot. I did use a loan.....but so long as I pay it back, I should be okay. Currently trying my best to get a tow hitch installed since the vehicle I bought isn't usually used for towing....

@@picilocarnal Exactly! Enabling them to just take over public spaces isn’t the way to go. A lot of them in LA need rehab, psychiatric help, etc; but the govenor want to act like he doesn’t know this. I simply tried to go to the fashion district to pick up some supplies for my shop, and the sidewalks were completely blocked off by tents. I couldn’t even walk close to the sidewalk if I wanted to because some of the homeless people act crazy; so it puts myself at risk. So I have to walk in the streets. If anything, I care more for the homeless “youth” and I sometimes swing by to help them with supplies and directions to youth shelters and centers, because a lot of the time, they accept the help. But not these adults.

And the DSA activists still had the gull to riot against the police for helping the homeless go to shelter and rehab and the community feel safer.

I don’t know how DSA homeless activists/protesters/enablers/anarchists can sleep at night knowing they are promoting rampant crime to take over the park.
