This is really useful, we picked up our new Golf yesterday with this system, trying to fumble through it on our own was frustrating and trying to remember the stuff was a trial, there is so much to learn, thanks for posting it up.
I understand that there is an option to take the small Infotainment screen on the 8.5 Golf- I think it may be 10.5 ? Does choosing this option take away some or any of the features you have described or is everything in a reduced size font / image . Thanks
Hey Nick, thanks for watching - While I didn't measure the screen shown in the vehicle, the UK configurator suggests it is 12.9-inches and as of July 2024, it seems to be the only size available. Even the entry level Life trim has this screen and if there is a smaller one it is likely coming soon. I'll find out from VW for you and reply here if they confirm anything. In answer to your question about things changing on the screen, from my time with the ID.7, which has a huge screen, it seems that the UI elements, such as fonts and images are just larger.
Hey, I will check with VW direct and reply here but I don't believe it does as they are focusing on their own IDA smart assistant. Thanks for watching :)
I have decided to switch gears. I use Home assistant to control my smart devices in my house, lights, tv's plugs heating etc. I am looking for a good way to control the house from the car, as I am heading home I want to be able to say, set heating to 20 degrees. Currently I use alexa for voice stuff. But I believe the new golf 8.5 has wireless android auto, so my new plan is just set Home Assistant up with google and say hey google set heating to 20 degrees. Looking forward to that. If I am right as long as I have Bluetooth enabled on the phone, I just get into the car and it should start android auto, I think there is a shortcut on the screen just press it and job done. It would be good if I could simply say hey google.
Did you test the attention monitor function? Keen to know if this will keep it the younger generations safe that prefer to look at their phones instead of the road!
Hey Mike, I believe in the US and Canada, the car manufactures refer to the current models with the year ahead of time. For example, this MK8.5 would be the Golf 2025. I don't have any info on if and when this new model is coming to the US/CA. Thanks,
@@chrislee6650 totally agree with Chris here. I have the car a week now and so easy to use. Can add all your tools widgets/easy access bits like ac and what not at home page at touch of a button. All volume can be controlled from steering well as well as other things. Just a quick touch of a button is all you need, same as if you were just looking down to turn down a physical knob.

Unfortunately what was not mentioned is that the boot is even smaller at 278 litres in the plugin (with 50KW DC charging btw) ehybrid and the GTE which might be popular in UK. So if you want to get 580 + miles of range and a pure electric range of roughly 70 miles you can't really take it on very long journeys afforded by the powertrain if you have even a small family which might be the target demographic for this.

Can't stand the taped on iPad look of all the new infotaintment systems. Looks like crap. Mk8 looked much more integrated into the overall dash, at least from the driver's perspective.
Why does this guy is hurrying as of he has to cats a bus Jezus slow down you…..he knows because he had time to figure it all out be if you are trying to teach as you better explain instead of racing trough it. So I take a look again because this guy doesn’t know how to do this kind of thing.
Can’t he explain a little faster this guy is not good in explaining new things because he knows it all and expusto know it to. So why not a little faster he takes a lot of time to explain this video is much to long.

Just picked up my new 8.5 R and this was very helpful, thank you 👍
Congrats on your excellent new car! Glad the video was helpful.
Beautiful review.
Beautiful screen.
Thanks for watching
@@theinterfacecars My pleasure 😊
Very good video, thank you
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for the video! Just got a brand new one.. (Y)
Enjoy!
How do you setup the shortcuts at the top of the screen
How do you start the rear demister please?
Can retrofit on MK8? Thank you.
Hey thanks for watching, I would imagine this would be pretty unlikely. Might be worth reaching out to VW to ask though 👍🏻
Does the r-line have automatic folding mirrors when you lock the car? Thanks
Yes
Can you still use SD cards or usb drives for music?

@theinterfacecars Thanks. That screen seems to dominate the fascia. The smaller screen in my Mk8 is a better size but has the well known issues.
Just bought a 24 R, with satellite radio does anyone know if you can set up alerts for artists and songs?
Thanks! Looks much better than the system on the 8 👍
Thanks for watching! - Yep, VW have done a good job with the infotainment, still isn't perfect but much better 👍
No way...
There should be a customizable shortcut for the assist. Its a pain doing it every morning.
👍
The golf 8 has Alexa, does the 8.5 have the option for Alexa?

Anyone know how to change display from KMH to MPH, 24 REG VW 1.0 TS....?
You should show navigation on driver display when using Apple Car Play. Some show Apple map others just turn directions and others nothing
See they still haven’t fixed the radio station idents for some stations.
@@chrislee6650 it does. How do you upload your own idents?

What’s the first thing you want to know about a car’s systems (ICE)? 9 ½ mins into this video we finally find out - it connects to Apple CarPlay.
Thanks Greg, however this is why there are chapters in the video.
The screen is to big how can ppl like it 😂😂😂 the mk8 had the best 😢 this 8.5 is shit
