  • This video takes another look at CalypsoBTS, this time running on a Raspberry Pi4 w/ a Motorola C118 phone attached. Also shown in the video is an alternative means of remote connecting to the Pi4 using RustDesk and finally getting around to using Kalibrate-RTL w/ the RTLSDR v3 to scan and find the created GSM BTS. This is for educational use only and every precaution must be taken to properly contain any signals generated with this setup as running a GSM BTS without proper license is not allowed (check your local laws/regulations).
To accomplish what's shown in the video you will either need to make your own cable to connect the phone to the Pi or purchase one of the ones here,
    shop.sysmocom....
You'll also of course need a compatible Calypso based phone,
    osmocom.org/pr...
And of course the software to run it. This software will be here until eventually it's just all included in DragonOS Pi64 by default, most likely it'll be located in /usr/src/CalypsoBTS once that happens.

Hello again. I’m slowly learning Virtual Box , Linux and the command line. I have two Hackrf’s that I’ve installed, updated, fixed VM usb issues for, etc. Next comes the Ubertooth One I got. I thought I was getting things handled until I went to update and received a libUSB error , pipe error -9, when trying command to difunto update firmware, and a usb claim interface error -6 when trying command to reset or to run specan-ui. When I enter lsusb in command line it shows up as available device. I’ve tried changing drivers in windows, checking id running vs dfu and still “No Joy”. Any input would be greatly appreciated. As I’ve been learning the command line I’ve come to see just what a powerful resource you’ve put together in Dragon OS. I was trying to run Sparrow Wi-Fi with Hackrf and Ubertooth like your video and got it up and running just no Ubertooth. Thanks for your time taken to read this and thanks for the countless hours you put into OS. It’s truly remarkable.

Hi 👋 I’ll give my ubertooth a check, I don’t recall such a problem when I used it last but I’ve not used it within virtual box. If you update using sudo in front of the command does that help?

Are you using the lastest DragonOS FocalX build?

@@cemaxecuter7783 Yes, to the FocalX plus update. I updated everything I could find referenced in GitHub and/or “read the docs “haven’t tried sudo in front of dfu command, but will try that shortly. I’m 47 and my brain was mush to begin with…between the couple of Linux Webinars on top the videos specifically aimed at Dragon’s content and functionality, I will not be surprised to sneeze and see brain matter in the tissue. All worth it though. Haven’t found anything that held my interest like this in a while. Thanks for the quick response, I really appreciate it.

So I checked mine plugged directly into a desktop running DragonOS. I can see I have firmware 2020-12-R1 loaded after running ubertooth-util -v in a terminal. So far I’ve not had to run sudo in front of anything. I’ll have to try via virtual box. Yes, this stuff can consume all your time Haha, so many crazy/cool things are possible.
