Lovely, beautiful, mum and dad used to take us to Ilfracombe for 6 years. We loved it.
    Beautiful place.
One of the great attractions was the indoor swimming pool.
    So sad they demolished it.
Ifracombe was a lovely and beautiful place.

Shame they couldn't have demolished the whole of Ilfracombe when they demolished the old swimming pool,it may have been ok in the summer for holiday makers, but in winter it was sh*t, I know I was born and bred there

lovely film. I'm guessing due to the dramatic zoom, the white Ford Granada was the cameramans! lol.

Sad to say that although we still have the beautiful coastline the town is just awful. Walked through there yesterday late afternoon, drunks and druggies, and having to move onto the road to make way for the smokers outside working men's clubs. I'm embarrassed that I moved here, really embarrassed. Can't wait to sell and go. My childhood holiday memories didn't carry into adulthood.
Run down hotels and architecture. Sat outside Spoons where the conversations were full of the 'f' word. Walked back through the 'gardens', a group of drunks there with a poor husky dog that looked so sad. I would have rescued him if I could. Amazed at how these people have animals. Mention Ilfracombe anywhere in Devon and you will hear it's a joke.

The 1984 horror movie "PAPERHOUSE" was partially filmed in Illfracombe, it featured the Britannia hotel, the harbour, and the hill up to the chapel.

Hello Alison,,, YES I do remember the OLD indoor pool.
I've tried and tried with the Council to get some photos of the old pool.
Is that the one you are asking about? Next to Capston Hill?

      Hello Alsion.
As I said before, Yes I do remember the OLD indoor pool in Ilfracombe.
We loved it. Our family used to go there loads of times.
So sad that it has been demolished now to make room for a theatre. So sad.
I asked he council several times for some photos, but they were too expensive.
      We loved that pool.
Is that the one you meant? The indoor pool?

@@dizzy1753 I remember it had a high diving board, and viewing galleries all around.
It was the first swimming pool I ever went in. I'm 54 now.
I remember my dad (young at the time) diving off the top board to impress me and my brother. I think I was about 5.
Only when I got older, did I realise dad hated heights!
Good memories of lovely Ilfracombe x
