Suspiria 2018 is absolutely amazing imo. It's the complete opposite of the original one, it's crazy. I love them both but in VERY different ways. It's a very interesting way to approach a remake, it has the same basic story elements, but it's just presented in a way thats completely new. I highly recommend both movies. And the Soundtracks are also COMPLETELY different, as you said, there is no point in trying to outdo Goblin's original soundtrack, it would be an effort in futility, and it also wouldn't make sense for the movie as it's so different. Again, as with the movies, they're both amazing and very different, highly enjoy them both. Edit: Did you end up watching the movie? And if so did you talk about your experience with it anywhere where one could see it?
The new SUSPIRIA is an awesome film. If it was its own film, not a remake, I believe it would have been recieved better. A funny weird note, the director requested Thom to make music even before Thom was able to see the footage. I think most of the tracks with vocals were recorded during that time. The film crew listened to these songs while filming. The film score noise and instrumental tracks were done with after he was given the footage. I thinn its his first film score, not bad but not great, not Johnny greenwood's Phantom Thread

I personally enjoyed the film except for the ending which was a bit of a mess but the rest of the movie was amazing and the soundtrack definitely fit with the film. I’ve been non stop listening to this album all week and I can’t get enough of it. Volk, suspirium, open again, the conjuring of anke are my favorite tracks.

Only heard Suspirium and Unmade, I think it's a good idea to experience this album for the first time with you.
See how that goes.
The scene Unmade is used in is off the rails crazy, as opposite in tempo as a song could be from the images, and probably because of that it works.

in the spirit of soundtrack stuff w occasional vocals, the soundtrack to the film BIRDY is excellent. Peter Gabriel in his Ambient/Peyote stage.
