    Tell the seller you will take it in to be inspected by a mechanic. Watch how fast he backs out of the deal.

    To be honest, my first car, I got giddy and didn't do the proper checks. I regretted it. BUT, luckily it wasn't near as bad as this one. It had a blown intake gasket and was leaking coolant from said gasket and it had a bad cat converter. It was already fairly cheap compared to everything else on the market so I still came out ahead compared to buying a new or good conditioned vehical but I regret not doing the proper checks so I could haggle a few hundred more off of the price :D That would have made it a sweet deal.
    Let that be a minor warning to anyone else in the same boat. Do NOT buy your first car without getting a professional to inspect it FOR you and only get into inspecting them once you've had experience in maintaining your own car. Unless you know what to look for, testing is useless to you and on a first buy, most people are always a little excited, which impairs judgement.

      I have a DD 2016 SXT 2.0, bought it new. Aside from inspection, oil change twice yearly , I replaced the driver window gear, headlights, brakes, tires, 2 new batteries, headlights, oil pressure sending unit. That's it, 80,000 miles, daily driver. I don't get how all this could be wrong and get no scanning codes. Also my engine clean as new not like this mess. Darts get a lot of hate but love mine. I own it and w prices no plans to get rid of it.

    A reco head is pre built 🤔 why not do a head replacement? It's not very hard pull the timing cover pull the chain/belt and remove the cams and head bolts then get a good head and new gasket and reverse the process takes half a day.. looking at the damage it needs a new/reco head and likely a oil pump and filter from steel shards in the oil.. so even if you dump a head on it probably will toss a big end coz of crap in the oil..

    • @AlexTheCarDoctor

    • @Midala87
      @Midala87 Год назад +1

      That's the question I am wondering myself. I have about maybe 5 years left before the car reaches 300k miles with how often I drive it. I have decided to setup a savings account to put money aside daily for either repairs or a down payment to another vehicle. My best guess is that it is cheaper to repair than to buy but it all depends on what shape the frame is in. If it's already rusting bad I don't see the point in prolonging its misery.
