It was good to see the MMU3 flash procedure demonstrated. The tube stagger tip was great as was the discussion of above, below, or behind on the filament reels. I look forward to your first flight video. The family visit is over, so I'm going to get going on the build today 🙂

Prusa says they will have the MK4 able to flash the MMU3 in the near future so it won’t be manual soon (I hope).

The MMU firmware flash worked on the first try, yea!

I've been using mine and it has been working great. I love that it does not require any extra power adapters, whole printer is just one plug. It's been great for multicolor prints but also for single color prints I usually don't have to load anything. I just pick a pre loaded color and go. White, Black, Blue, Red cover 90% of the colors i use, plus one extra is great. Spool join is a great convenience feature as well. I don't have to sit and baby my prints waiting for the spool to run out.

Does the spool join function require no user attention at all when it's changing spools?

@@gevanvliet909 No, otherwise it would be pretty pointless.

@@gevanvliet909 no, it switches all by itself. Before you start the print you have the option of selecting “spool join” for any color. Just tell the printer which one to switch to when the first runs out. It can be any slot as well, 2 to 5, 4 to 1 it does not have to be sequential.

Yes that's true. I do use mostly similar colors. Maybe I should just plan on #5 being the random color. Thanks!

What a cool feature, didn't know about that. Thanks 🙂

If you haven't used the latest MK4 firmware before there are some nice features, such as touch screen support, and filament change time display.
I am looking forward to seeing how this thing prints.

Takes way to much desk space in my opinion. I hope they will come with a better solution in the future.

There are a lot of custom options out there for the buffer and the spools depending on your installation location. While prusa recommends a functional layout for the spools, I find it ridiculous for the amount of space it takes up. You could just as easily line those spools up right next to each other on some rollers(check out the tush roller on printables) to save space there and feed those directly into the buffer closely. I would check out printables for some options for the MMU3 buffer and spools placement.

@@hanslain9729 Custom solutions are nice, but Prusa should come with their own solution.

I even use it without a buffer.
The printer is in a cabinet and the filaments are in airtight boxes above it, which also serve as a filament roller, buffer and drying box.

I agree. I would think by the 3rd MMU, that Prusa would have refined the footprint of this. I'm going to try out autorewind spooks. Thanks!

I have the MK4 in a cabinet. Above it are the 5 spools in individual drying boxes that also function as buffers.
      Works perfectly so far.
The filament stays dry and friction is reduced.
I am very satisfied with the MMU3. It worked reliably right from the start.

Mine is built for the MK3S, but I am having issues with it. The last time it would load a different filament from what was chosen.
