  • Thrustmaster has based their wheel on their eco system. This allows drivers to use a variety of different Thrustmaster products together with other parts of that eco system. It has also allowed for the freedom to use any wheel rim on any wheel base.
With the release of the TS-PC and the TS-XW each of these wheel bases came with wheel rims exclusive to those bases. Sim Racers have asked fro them to be available as part of the eco systems and now they are.
This video shows off the new and now sold separately Open Wheel add on from the TS-PC as well as the Competition Sparco 310 Mod from the TS-XW in their independent form.

TM needs to design a decent pedal set for all these new higher end belt driven wheel bases. People keep talking about them getting into the DD market but honestly there’s no reason, at least right now.

Of course there is a reason to get into DD. I don't understand what you mean? In saying that, the pedals that TM offer are the reason I went to fanatec from the start. They really need to up their game

Great review as always, Shaun. Kinda agree on those Open Wheel Add-On button surround colours - although there ARE current F1 cars with crazier colours ;D But one thing few people seem to notice is that at least TM fixed a problem for PC users - the earlier rims didn't have Controller Numbers next to each button, I had to manually label them on my 599XX rim. They fixed this on the TS-PC rim (I think that's why the PC is in the title), but not the Sparco rim. Take care Shaun.

This is good news. For someone whose wife won’t let him spend 2 grand on Fanatec products, that Sparco wheel is the only wheel from TM that I feel as realistic as or at least closer to Fanatec wheels.

TM needs to get off their butt and build a direct drive base. They make such great consumer level rims... just need a nice 10-13nm direct drive, nothing crazy powered that would wreck their quick release system. eSports racing is becoming bigger and more popular, Fanatec knows this and has responded, its time for TM to do the same.

Hi Shaun! I'm very disappointed after I bought the Thrustmaster R383 and Open wheel add ons for my T300 wheel base. They both work absolutely fine on PC. I did update the software to the latest V31 firmware and tried both wheels on my old Playstation 3 console. According to Thrustmaster bots add on wheels are working on PS3 and I can confirm they work perfectly fine in the menu, but none of the games are recognising the button inputs and the paddles. I'm looking forward to buy Playstation 5 and to play all the PS4 games I missed (been 7 years away from sim racing) and I was wondering if PS4 is exactly the same case scenario in games. Have you tried these addon wheels on PS4 and which games?

Have the Ferrari wheel, Sparco Rally wheel and the F1 wheel. And now i want to replace the F1 rim with the open wheel option because the grip is nog great with the F1 rim.
I should just mod the F1 rim with Alcantara but i am so lazy 😂
They should sell all bases to. I would replace the t300 with another option.

    • @smudge0356
      @smudge0356 5 лет назад

@Bambeakz - Hi, I thoroughly agree with everything, you just said.
However, either I'm greedier than you or probably it's just 'cause I'm always looking for bargains; but along with the original TX base wheel (Ferrari 458), I have also ended up buying the same two extra wheels that you have...
AND... the Ferrari GT/E (£54) and the 599X Alcantara (£119).
The only one I really regret buying is the Ferrari F1 (£105), which along with poor grip, also remembering which button is which is nightmarish and with the fake knobs it looks far more like a toy than the Open-Wheel (although the push/pull gearshift is great and the dials for the D-pad is kinda cool, but again remembering which one's which & which direction is a pain). Plus it feels small (11"), which is the only thing that might put me off buying the Open-Wheel, although the grips on that do look bigger.
Although, I absolutely love the Sparco R383 rally wheel (£142), I mean, it just feels as though it came straight out of a real car; and 'cause it's big (13"+) and heavy (>2kg), which I think it helps the FFB. In fact the only thing which lets it down is the slightly 'dead feel' to the buttons that Shaun mentioned.

You'll see as you get in to the hobby, but you'll need to use pedals as intended unless you want to modify your equipment with aftermarket hand controls. You can technically use the paddles as gas and brake but you'll soon realize that level of control is less than ideal.

Not a fan of the lack of buttons on the Open Wheel. The only people that buy F1/LMP style rims are people that play ACC, iRacing, F1 games. Those games have loads of controls. If you're going to buy a Thrustmaster rim and plan to play something other than Forza, just get the Ferrari F1 rim.

I haven't done simracing in a long time, but looking at the tm stuff it does not look appealing to me due to the plastic threaded thing, bad idea, they should have updated it to a real wheel quick release mechanism instead. I might look more into more expensive options later, but for now new Mountainbike build is priority. For for sim gear the mass-produced stuff don't appeal to me, looks too weak, I need metal everywhere it makes sense, plastic is OK for switches or displays and stuff like that, but not a something mounted to a motor, bad idea, also fle and play can be caused by the plastic, its better to have real wheels.

Hence the "officially licensed replica". A real P310 on the TM Sparco wheel would probably cost at least 350 dollars. Besides, a real P310 would be pointless. If you're putting the same stresses on a sim racing wheel that the P310 needs to be rated for, you're doing something wrong.
