Just an FYI. Do some research but the leaves of the sweet potatoes are great for you and are huge in killing cancer cell among many other things. Mix them in your salads and add to other meals. Lots of health benefits. Wife and I are big fans and love watching your family. God bless.
Enjoy your time off, you all deserve it, I’ve only found your channel a few years ago, so I’ll watch some old ones from the start. One of your videos that I really enjoyed was way back, when Megan was talking about taking the kids out of our schools and homeschooling, and, that government was evil 😈 and nuts.well I’m not going to say any more, you know about that. Good talk Megan, I understand why that was the only video on that subject, hopefully you didn’t lose to many subscribers, but if you did , they didn’t deserve to watch you anyway, but I’m sure you gain more mindedness people like yourself. But at that time , that’s when families and friends started falling apart and arguing because of what was happening in this country 🙏❣️
Another fun video, you deserve a break,it’s been quite a season. Still praying for you Megan, losing your dad,the kids also of course and you too Andy! Thats a really hard loss🙏 We really enjoy your field work Andy and explaining what your up to. We plan on putting in our garlic this weekend. It’s that time of year. Harvest and preserving takes so much out of us Megan. It’s so important, but I’m tired! Having our food and knowing where it came from is so worth it,and important to us. We love that you share with us, the kids are learning so many skills!..Rest,enjoy family, take time. Your faithful subscribers..we appreciate you❤
Thanks for sharing this video folks. Also Have a very blessed time off this coming week. Enjoy the families and visiting and re-grouping . Everyone need to stop and smell the roses sometime. Enjoy your time. Fred.
I grow my vine cherry tomato's over my garden arches and never suffered with blight or water spots and splits lv from rainy Yorkshire, England. Lv Maggie excitement at finding things and digging around she is a total Treasure to you both. Xx
You guys deserve a break, you are some hard working folks! We'll miss you but I hope you have a restful week❣🥰 I'll binge watch some past video's while you're gone. 😍😍
Thanks for this. I was getting my garlic ready for planting as I watched this! I have a small backyard garden but I really enjoy watching that field work!
You all work hard and deserve some time off. We love ya and wish you nothing but the best always. Take care and I will be looking forward to your next video.
We just dug our sweet potatoes after a frost. We waited one day after the frost. His family has always waited for the first frost before digging the sweet potatoes. We raised them in half, blue 55 gal barrels.
I've noticed Maggie make sound effect noises in past videos, 😂just like she did today. Yaah! with the little garden rake🤣When she's helped Meagan in the kitchen it makes me think she's a Stalekracker in the making. He's a You tuber from Louisiana.
Enjoy your well deserved time off. I appreciate you for sharing your life with us. Every video is has something to learn. I enjoy way the family working together.
We plow down feed wheat on our gardens every fall. I have had 10 deer in the garden during the winter. Yesterday had 7 deer in the garden were the Hickory King corn was planted. Have a nice break.
I had a tomato come up next to my green bean trellis do the same thing. The green beans grabbed it and out of all my tomatoes, it did the best. In fact it is still growing out there. Pulled all my other tomatoes out but left it cause it was doing so good. 😊 Enjoy your time off!
We plant our Garlic on Halloween or the first week of Nov. in northern NJ. We only grow hardneck. One month before planting we add a few inches of chicken manure and compost and turn it in. When it's time to plant we put ours about 4 inches deep. Once they sprout we cover over with a good 4 to 5 inches of shredded leaves. Last year ours where ready to pull mid June and we took the scapes off in May. We grow Siberian and Red Chesnok Garlic.
For the chook house you need to put a tow ball connector on it and have one of ride-ons with tow ball. Easier to move the birds around. Or something similar. We in process of doing same in Australia. Plus trellis for tomatoes are great. They cut down diseases and aerate the plant. Favourite way to grow them.
You hear it all the time but the family working together does my heart good 34 degrees me and my 8 yr grand son running late getting started God bless you and yours
I plant my garlic 6 inches apart in all directions and have great results. I have been doing this for several years. It is in a raised bed that can easily be reached from all directions
I telling you the truth, I slung carrot seeds out in a few spots and they've popped up like they've never had before. Must be a good year for carrots 🥕😊
It’s nothing better to me than some baked sweet potatoes and some greens with cornbread I don’t even have a meat just give me some greens and sweet potatoes and I’m good
Hey folks! Nice video. I like your idea about putting tomatoes in those bean beds. Beans provide the nutrients that tomatoes love, so they ought to do well. I try to rotate every year or two my tomatoes and peppers, cukes, and beans. It seems to cut down on the amount of fertilizer/soil amendments as well. I do the beans between my tomatoes/peppers and cukes. The homestead is looking great. You sure are making a nice life for you all.
Love your videos! We cover our newly planted garlic with a fairly thin layer of chicken bedding/muck for the same reasons you mentioned...keeps the weeds down and protects it during the coldest months. I was glad to see your tomato plant(s) climbing a trellis because we've about decided to plant ours along cattle panels next year. We normally plant green beans on one side of trellis and cucumbers on the other, but our cucumbers never do well in our garden (they do better in our raised beds), so we're planning to put the tomatoes next to the trellis. Here's hoping!
I use a cattle panel trellis for the tomatoes and it's great to keep the plants from falling over when they are full of tomatoes and I love how the trellis loos thru out the garden
Most of the homesteaders I watch grow their tomatoes on a curved trellis or a vertical cattle panel. They are vines, so they will climb like crazy, especially the indeterminants. I love watching y'all work as a family. Such a beautiful team!
Good morning ya'll, what a joy to see your family working together outdoors. I truly believe that the kids learn alot about nature by being outdoors whether working or playing. My grandson was right along his grandpa when planting or harvesting the raise beds. He would come inside overjoyed to show me what he had grown to eat, along with all the little critters he would catch 😅 God bless your family in all ya'll do to take care of your family ❤
3rd morning in a row we’ve had frost in SW Ohio. Guess fall is really here. You really do deserve a week off, and I don’t blame you a bit! We’ll miss you! ❤ Blessings.
I watch y’all and the zimmermans because your whole families are involved in everything. Every person young and old is needed and participates. Will yield good character and responsible individuals who won’t ever feel left out or unimportant. The body has many parts that functions as a whole. ❤😊
Good morning Lawson family. Sweet taters looks good. Megan next time you boil some of your backbone, when it's done throw you some rice in that stock (pork & rice) bake you some sweet taters, cornbread, stew you some cabbage or a pot of greens (with your chow chow on the side) & you got yourself a meal. Oh add a pot of your green beans or october beans...Yum Yum. Im drinking my morning coffee but getting hungry thinking about that meal 😂
Megan also another way to use your sweet potatoes is to fry them. My granny fixed grits, eggs, bacon or sausage & fried fatback & fried taters for breakfast every morning with either toast or biscuits. When she had sweet potatoes she would fry them for breakfast instead of the Irish potatoes. But fried taters regardless every morning with breakfast & always fried fat back. I miss her & her breakfasts. But it was good. My mama takes left over baked sweet potatoes & pat them out & fry them in bacon grease for a side dish. All this is some good eatin
Hey there, i love your family. I enjoy watching yall work together. I'm happy for you for taking some time off although i will miss you i'll just keep on watching all of your other shows. That's what i do most days aanyway. Ive watched some of them multipul times. You're my favorite to watch. I watch Celebrating Appalacha too. Thank you!!!❤
I don't know if this will be helpful, (the ground doesn't freeze here) but many years ago I had some (store) garlic that was sprouting in my kitchen. I took it out and just poked the individual cloves in my flower beds here and there. It was just 'greenery' and didn't hurt anything. Then I forgot about it. When that happened again, and I had more garlic trying to sprout, I again just took it out and poked it in the ground. Sometimes a seedhead would pop up (scapes) and I'd pluck it off, and cook it with eggs. I'd pull that head and use it in the kitchen. Sometimes it would be one giant 'clove', and I'd use it like garlic. It tasted the same but milder so I'd use more. I did that for three or four years, and now I haven't bought garlic in a long, long time.
Andy I think you're on to something bedding plenty of sweet potatoes next year. The only place I know that had them this year was Webster's Hardware and all they had was Beauregards. I planning on planting more next year and would love to find some Nancy Halls, the white sweet potato that grandma and grandpa used to always plant years ago. Y'all enjoy your time off and we'll be here when you get back. Have a great weekend!
We plant our green beans near our tomato plants. The beans reach out and wrap themselves up in the tomato plants and hold them up pretty good. We use cattle panels in rows. We found this out by mistake of course but now we know and they don’t seem to bother each other as far as production. And thankfully I’m 4’11” and can shimmy under the “crossover” vines 😂
Great video, thank you. I love your family all helping and Jacob and Maggie learning. Watching Andy run the tractor is so calming to me, even listening to the motor🤗❣️
Another great video guys. They were calling for us to get 37 degrees here in Tennessee well instead we got two days about 31 degrees pretty heavy frost

Jacob is meticulous. He doesn't just rush through the job to get it done. That young man will go far in life. You have done a fine job raising him.
Yes he's very methodical!!😇
Andy I am glad I am not the only one that talks to his cows. 😊

Well done Jacob you did a great job raking.👍
Very interesting video. Farming is a lot of hard work. Makes a person appreciate where our food comes from.
Yes! 😊
Hope y'all have a great time off this week. 😊

Just like feeding that soil with cover crops, you’ve got to feed your souls with some “you time”! Enjoy your time off! We ain’t going anywhere! 😎👍🏼

Have a great mental health break. Can’t wait to see how the Rays crazy mix works it peaked my interest
Hog panels make great trellices for my indeterminate tomatoes! And they are fun to pick from and pretty to look at.
Cookie standing where she can't get to that fresh leafy food.😅😅 she's expressing her complaint, haha.
Cookie is coming into heat, and is expressing how she feels. Take it from an old homesteader who has raised cows for many years.

I have tomatoes growing up my trellis, I planted them that way! Next year...I'll not do it again. I think I'll stick with the traditional way.
