    “Or maybe I did it. I forgot” 😂. By the time this house is completed, it’ll be stronger than the ancient walls of…a well fortified ancient city! Love the new door. The house will be strong as stone, but as lovely as My Fair Lady. Can’t wait to see the door completed and installed. So cool that the hardware used to be from a storefront. 1911. Olympic was sailing and Titanic was still being built!

    It is all going to be so beautiful! And unique, too. I know it’s been a challenge at times but your dream has kept you going. I love old houses so much…my husband, eh, not as much. We compromised on a 1938 farmhouse. My goal is to live long enough for it to be 100 years old.😅 It is iffy at best!😅

    "Can't afford old any more." Totally understand that statement! Though I have found that Habitat for Humanity resell stores have been a cheaper place to find architectural items in my area. Especially the one that is located in an old city. Lots of 'stuff' from the old houses that have been rehab in that area.

    • @TheGrandLady
      @TheGrandLady  Год назад

      I don't know if it's ridiculous or affirming that old, well made things can be more expensive than new! Love Habitat for Humanity! 🌍 Syracuse has one but for some reason they don't have stuff from the old houses here. I've heard the one in Ithaca is good... There are so many to see still!

    Lindsey, what a fantastic job you're doing. One thing to be aware of about your door is that doors have an inside and an outside for a reason. Switching a door can cause leaking and other issues down the line. I'm loving all the progress I'm seeing.❤❤😊

    How far would it be to go to auctions in Michigan? Ginger chick rehab finds a lot at their auctions.
    I have used that paint stripper I was told if you lay Saran wrap over it and let sit for a while it will work better.
    Here door glass should be replaced with safety glass. That was a crazy price you were given. Hope it works out.

      Hahaha... You are so right! I was using some, that footage just didn't make the cut. I don't know if it was the combo of latex paint over shellac but, the orange stuff I was using became a gooey mess. Since then I have been using denatured alcohol with greater success.

Peeling the paint started out so easy but those trim pieces... yowza.
