Glad to hear you going into more games in the series, but also sorry to hear about the 5D incident. If you're fine going retro, I highly recommend checking out Rance 3, 4, 4.1, 4.2 and Kichikuou Rance in addition to my mod.
As far as games go, I highly advise starting with Sengoku Rance until Rance 03 gets released. Sengoku Rance eases you into the setting by having a largely new cast of characters while showing Rance at his most reasonable translated appearance. You can also watch the Rance 01 OVA to see if the tone of the series is right for you.

@@flair4676 started a 3-man coop run with my friends, personally running custom right now while they play Alice church and Rance thieves, and its great to play with some of the QOL additions from mangagamer release like coloured stats. lost maria before my first turn from an assassinate though so that was fun
