More interesting facts - Yes they did change actors over time, including sadly the guy who played the dad as his Parkinsons got too bad. Also the girl who played the sister in the first series sang the VERY CATCHY theme tune. :)
"Round the Twist is notable for having pushed the boundaries of what is acceptable for children's television, to the extent that the Australian Children's Television Foundation had difficulty finding a distributor for it: according to the ACTF's marketing Manager Jenny Buckland, "the scripts were declared 'too rude', 'not for television' and 'outrageous'". Episodes include references to flatulence, defecation, urination, vomiting, body odor, underwear, birth (one involving a male), death, nudity, incest, genitalia, homosexuality, bestiality and coprophagia (eating of faeces)"
When you look back at this show, it dealt with some pretty weird shit for a kids show. Take the Cabbage Patch Fib for example. Bronson finds a green baby in the cabbage patch. The baby basically imprints itself on Bronson leaving Bronson to look after it day and night. No one else can take care of the baby besides Bronson. If they try, the baby just holds its breath until it is returned to Bronson. So Bronson is left to care for the baby day and night. As typical, an 8 year old boy can only take so much and eventually tires of the kid and its constant neediness...so what does he do? Has a moment of mental breakdown and decides to put the kid back in the cabbage patch. Where the baby holds its breath and almost dies. Pretty heavy shit for a kids show when you think about it. And I loved it :)
this both traumatized me as a child and made me rush home to watch it. It was the theme tune to my early teenage years, not going to be able to get that song out my head now.
I used to love Round the Twist, it was quite big in the UK in the 90's I think. There was another weird show made in the UK I think called The Demon Headmaster, I remember it being quite creepy for a children's show . There is also Pyschoville and The Mighty Boosh for British Comedy.
You’ve made my day with this. Hands up if you remember the one where the wee over the wall?! Following the Australian theme what about Pugwall or Pugwalls summer? Classic 90s weekend: summer holiday telly in UK
For some reasons that (and one about cabbage babies) is the only episode I really remember lol even though I remember watching the first and second series when they first aired on CBBC. OMG I used to LOVE Pugwall lol. We Brits do love an Aussie TV show lol :D
I do wonder how many of us that grew up with Australian Children's television foundation shows on the BBC really wanted to visit Queensland as a result?
Just wanted to thank you (cough) for getting that blasted song stuck in my head right before I go to bed lol :D This used to come on right as I got home from school (the first 2 series) and I used to love it. Couldn't tell you any of the episode plots (other than something about babies from cabbages and a weeing contest) but I remember liking it. Don't remember series 3 & 4, probably because I was at college when they aired and just too old for children's telly.
Oh my gosh! I LOVED Around the Twist as a little 'un. I haven't seen the later series but remember it from the early 1990s. The Aussie sense of humour is brilliant. Someone else mentioned Pugwall's Summer, another Aussie classic. Check it out if you can get hold of it.
Argh!!! Watched this reaction last night and woke up to that theme tune going round and round in the back of my mind just like it used to when I was a kid. That thing's really dangerously catchy!
This is a stroll (or an acid trip) down memory lane for sure. Used to watch this when I got home from school. There's certainly a few cast changes - that's a different dad character to what I remember, and the girl was originally played by a Tamsin somebody - I forget the surname. Recall reading Paul Jennings' books of short stories vividly - very similar to Roald Dahl in some respects. Many thanks for stirring up some great memories. Speaking of Roald Dahl, I highly recommend Tales of the Unexpected.
I never watched this version of the show, I guess it was ok, but the original with the original cast which I grew up on was much better, like most kids shows the originals were always better, kids shows have got increasingly worse over the decades, lol, definitely need to react to one of the originals as a comparison, the original was one of my favourites as a kid
I remember the first series of Round the Twist It was very strange. This however was on a whole other level (and yes it was an entirely different cast)
I somehow wasn't aware about the big gap in seasons. They apparently changed each character at least once. I remember certain episodes very distinctly. After looking them up, turns out I mostly remember season 2 with episodes like the water ghost that made the little kid win a pissing competition (Little Squirt) and these over sized mushrooms/toadstools that took on the form of anyone or thing that came near it but would then explode (Yuckles). It must have aired later in the UK than originally broadcast because I'm pretty sure I didn't see that aged 6.. The theme tune is an absolute classic.
I wasn't going to watch this reaction but I'm really glad I did. I know I'd watched the earlier series in the 90's but I forgot how completely nuts it was. There was nothing else like it at the time and as far as I know there hasn't been since. Loved your reactions as they mirrored my own.
remember watching this in on its first run on BBC1, i dont know if it aired here in 89 or if that was in Australia, cbbc the channel didnt exist then, never forgot the music, classic, the original cast were the best
They had to change in the second season. The two that played the twins were both 15 and were trying to play 13 year olds. After 2 years they were 17 and had no hope of playing 14 year olds. The entire cast had numerous changes sadly after Jennings walked away and the production team attempted to continue with their own crappy stories. The theme song is sung by the Girl from the original 1st season.
Glad you enjoyed it, now you know why I'm weird, grew up on it 😂😂😂 We got quite a lot of weird TV shows from Australia! Kitty it awesome, she says fuss me dammit! 😂😂😂😂
The first series was probably the best, but series 2 was also really good, and I used to be mad about the second Linda! :-) As for series 3 and 4… I never really got to see them, but they kind of remind me of Home Alone 3 and 4 (the less popular ones without Macaulay Culkin)!
I remember this used to watch it, was the weirdest thing I saw at the time, loved it tho lol.😊👍😂 Wow, you say the last bit so fast Noah, have you got a Lamborghini engine up your bum lol.😂
Series 1 and 2 were peak Round the Twist, Series 3 and 4 was, even tho i grew up with, yeah those 2 are just good, but kind of pale in comparison to the first 2 and never saw Driven Crazy, another show that Jennings was involved and episodes based on his books, but it didn't last for that long, only 13 episodes in it's one series and also only read some of the books and the stories that were in those and also Deadly which i have watched and surprisingly enjoyed it.
Loved this show but think this series was mainly with new kids but most of the adults are the original cast. It’s weird as a 40 year old now watching it for 1st time since the 90s when I was at school.
I watched the first 2 seasons cause I was 9 and 12. The other season came out (which I never knew about) when I was 20 and 21. So I was just a little bit old for childrens t.v. the first 2 when brilliant. But watching this it's very similar apart from completely different actors.
All 4 seasons have nearly entire different casts (not just the kids). This episode captured a lot of the show's features from the earlier run, though IIRC the latter two seasons went downhill as it tried more and more to outdo the wackiness that made the first two seasons so popular. Without my pants.
Please, Please react to CBBC Jeopardy it is about a group of Scottish high students and their teacher from Falkirk, Scotland, UK. Who travel to Australia to look for UFO activity. It ran for 3 series. First series is the best, Second series is decent but has pacing issues due to not much happening, Third series aka the final series? Is an improvement over series 2 in my opinion.

Great, wasn't it?
This was in it's wiki page, before they got rid of it.
Paul Jennings' books shared a lot of the same stuff.
fun fact: this series was based on a series of Books by Paul Jennings and the show only aired in America on Fox Kids in 1997!
was the Australian Goosebumps in early years and they were better

As a Brit born in 85 i loved it as a kid the first series that is but can't really remember the other two series

Watching this just before bed. That theme song will be haunting my dreams the rest of the night.
It's such a good show though that I don't care
This is the first time I've seen this as an adult. My 90's childhood definitely explains my adulthood.
