  • 4145 H MODIFIED steel is quite tough but easy to cut compared to stainless steels as it chips really well. This is a follow up to the "complete guide" video.

    This is a follow up to the "complete guide" video without commentary so you can watch how I do it. I didn't finish turn it first as I needed to maximise the lathe time so I could do other work as this was being drilled.

    Some serious chips there! Wow! I didn't know what the notches were for at first, but I guess to help form the wood block to fit the bore. Very cool process, thanks for sharing! Cheers 👍😁👍.

    Another huge 'chunk'... but friendlier material! Chips are gorgeous. Lot of material to take off. Looked like a comfortable 1/4" cut with hogging - nice.
    Just noticed when trepanning,.. earlier stage, the steady wheel didn't look square to the work... though if finishing cut yet to go probably no big deal.
    Now that's a boring bar!!
    Hard to imagine what this is for but, super finish Dave. Enjoyed that. ATB.

    I used to machine large diameter nylon.If you get the feed rate just right the nylon will come off in in long threads and you can suck it up with a hoover which is better than getting wrapped around your lead screw and chuck

    Why the radially place cold chisel cuts around the bore? Are they to help shape the wooden support as it enters the bore??

    Chisel marks to break the chip?

    • @davidb6576
      @davidb6576 4 года назад +4

      To cut the wood padding to size as it enters the workpiece. You see it at 7:22 as the boring head enters the tube. With the pads cut he gets support for the boring bar so it maintains size all the way through.

    • @chrishartley1210

After Lady Di went away it has gone totalt fuck.. and now you guys are leaving EU ? Are you going to import our bacon still? And can we fish still on the doggers? Its quite high speed in rotations you run .. so I would say ... that you run maby 100 in cutting speed? ? or maby even more ? n = 318*(v) / Diameter of workpiece ... rit ? .... I bring bacon and Danish Quality beer if you answer !! ( Maby a bambi in a box ,... shot on mainland ) ( No arabs or fox here rit now .. they gone to sweeden to make problems )
