Mr. Wilks, You can tell from your action that you were a good business owner. Most people sell their shop to reduce their stress, but you continue to treat your new job as if it was your company. Your problem solving and adaptation is wonderful. I hope you take care of yourself though, and not compromise soul. Wonderful video, I'm just amazed at the setup time involved. Your videos, I'm sure, don't characterize what it takes, or what is involved in doing the set ups. Most of you videos are like a little mini series, where you are always kicking the bad guys arse. Really enjoyed it....👍👍👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🍻🍻
There isn't enough money in Sheffield to pay what yer worth David, another great video! I have a mate who was in Precision in Leeds making Coles crane parts, and loom knife boxes, among many many other jobs, but the work dried up, and he is a joiner now, and a very good one too! He was convinced that the job you do and factories like yours, and the one you work in now, no longer existed. He was very pleased to say the least when I showed him your videos, and the "calibre" of work you do!
Your an inspiration for your craft and the machines you use, Not sure what all the makes of your machines are but Maybe CRAVEN, D.S.G, etc Plus Lang and Herbert are some of the machines i used in my career,
You know your doing something right when the 316 cuts as easily as the cast iron. A shame about all those trepanning drills your boss sourced a while back. You have to have a strong suspicion they were left outside to rust because they were useless.
I honestly did not expect to see the core in a core. That was impressive. Hope you get double bubble for a Sunday seeing as it's either a dose of piss poor planning or urgent jobs? As always fantastic videos Dave. Thanks for sharing 👍
You are back to what you previously did, working alone in the shop. Good to see all the same, and I have been strugeling to single point cut a 5/8 unc LH thread in a nut all day.
Simply amazing stuff Dave. I love your disposition. Now, all we need is another 3 or 4 more like you, and ALL of Britain will recover from 48yrs of EU membership in about 2mths. Regards Mark in the UK
That seemed a heavy schedule Dave - all the set-ups as well - and for a Sunday too. A real chorus of sound from - well, at least two machines at times. Then - more of the infamous Inconel on Monday - tricky problems with tooling and all your extra work needed - like you needed all that hassle. Looked like success and that was different - trepanning a core! Stressful! You may have said in the past but - wonder how you make the wooden support piece that featured in the finish boring - particularly as presumably it needs to be pretty accurate for profile and dimensions. Some great footage.... quite an editing job too.
Do you finish these pieces out,or are they starting points for other shops? Love your stuff. I worked in a big shop in California in the 70's where they did a lot of similar stuff. Hadn't seen it since till I saw your spot. Thanks. Good memories for an old man.
I like it at 10,44 when you show that weeeeeeeeeeee little tip that cut that huge hole, is there one on the opposite side that splits the cut depth? Cheers P
Hello David. Same you are located on the other side of the pond. I would just love to work with you fella. We could make some real nice funds. What happened with the old shop ??? Good day too.
Brilliant, David !! .... core in a core ..magic ! :). How did you decide that 16mm was a good wall thickness for the tool ?.... trial and error ?. Thanks for the video's .... keep 'em coming .
David ...I hope that there are apprentices coming up who can learn the skills ?, not just how to programme a CNC machine !. Who will do the operations that you are showing to us ?. Sad day when the apprentice programmes ceased, fellows from my generation of apprentices ( 1950's /1960's )are now " over the hill ", your generation will soon be drawing pension :( .... and that's not all it's cracked up to be :) .
Not on the same scale as what you do but I cut out the centre of a 4” o/d brass round with a hole saw from both end and used the core for another job rather than drill it out and waist it . Lol
Great now get down the pub with you !! A decent meal and a few beers . What sort of coolant are u using ? I am having trouble with stained parts . Some new coolant !! Not impressed . I used to like lubricool blue . But it's gone .
I think it’s time for your owner’s allow you the time and the money so you could make better tools especially since you’re making the tools for your work and those tools work
Jesus aka Dave what material do you use to make your tools? Veronica owes you some extra in your pay check, at least double double time for Sunday and having to use shit tools 🍺🍺👍🏴
never seen easier work for machinists you just lift the old junk out and put new junk in.Even the lift point is marked already. I wish my work was that easy but no I have to fight old german junk all day doing small batches, even ones out of stainless steels up to inconels and what not.

I need that, a boring bar steady.
I really enjoyed watching this, thank you for making...cheers from USA, PB
thanks for taking the time to show us Dave in your busy schedule
Super drills! Lace. Greetings from Poland Sopot!

Obviously frustrating when the pressure is on , hope your boss appreciates you . Job spot on even when the going gets tough .

I used to get double bubble for a 12 hour Friday night shift and put 7 till 12 in on a Sunday morning. Loads of money (and loads of tax)
Remember that your body does'nt care about the dubble bubble. At some point you will need days of rest.

smooth and relaxing watching a top hand at work ! Cheers, Mate!
I know how to true up a 4 jaw chuck, but do any of your videos show you truing up those monster 4 jaws? Love to see it being done
Why would you like to see it done?Just go watch yourself do it.

4:45 did you bore from both ends? Looks like it. Never seen a core in a core before. Pretty cool stunt trepanning!
Great work you did there on a sunday👍
Looks like you have borrowed some of chuck norris’s hole saws.
Enjoying the show
David all you the only person working in the shop beside Vern I mean Veronica? Don't see many machines running during the work week .
Working on your pat....... on a Sunday! .......WTF! I hope you're pulling double time mate!
Wow! How much radial depth of cut does the inner and outer insert take?
I like it at 10,44 when you show that weeeeeeeeeeee little tip that cut that huge hole, is there one on the opposite side that splits the cut depth? Cheers P
After all that Boreing work don't you think it's time for a pint or two of John Smiths Barley Pop . 😜
I dig it Dave. Cheers the vid!!
I hope you need them money badly. People need brake, days off. Best wishes, dont forget to take care of yourself.
