This was almost completely prefect. The only part i didn't like was after they got Cody on the board and Kevin stood on top of him holding the belt. He should have walked right out of the arena and never looked back.
I actually really enjoyed that part. It reminded me of the TRex roaring standing on its prey after a battle in JP. Which is quite funny because KO has a TRex tattoo on his arm.
@@QAZ-OMEN But its not realistic. If they thought Cody potentially broke his neck they wouldn't have let Kevin anywhere near him.... if Kevin thought he legitimately broke Cody's neck he wouldn't want to hang around to taunt about it, he would want to get out of there before he got held up by security or potentially arrested. I was buying into the potential injury until the second i saw that, and it took me out of it completely.
@@QAZ-OMEN Thats what was different about the Attitude Era and now... everybody overlooks that there was an element of realism and unpredictability that always kept everything in a grey area in the eyes of fans... @Robby_C I've been watching since before the Attitude Era, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this little bit of "over the top" at the end. Maybe it had something to do the tattoo, and that I just rewatched the og JP the day before.
@@QAZ-OMEN I've been watching since before the attitude era too... but that was part of what made the attitude era such a cultural phenomenon... that is the magic they are trying to recapture. With Cody's hand "locked up" after the pile driver, what a sell! But if you look again, to me it looks like he's also giving the "ok" sign to the back. I noticed it maybe the third time I watched it. Because his head is SO close to touching.
Big time wrestling nerd moment, but the first I saw the package piledriver was when Aja Kong had her short run in the WWF in the mid-90s. The WWE Vault has the match on RUclips. Side note, I think Haku has an underrated piledriver.
Stevie gives a genuinely brilliant storyline here. Its not complicated but it works easily. KO gets to be a disgusting heel, theres a number of hurt guys with a potential return match cycle with him afterwards too. People mock the Hogan style that doesn't work for me brother but this has the and then we do this attached to it that Bischoff podcast always mentions was how you could get even likes of Hogan to buy in
Dudes in AEW will take a Piledriver on the steel ring steps and just be up 5 seconds later to do more moves as if nothing happened. I think the worst one I saw was someone took a Piledriver on the apron and just rolled down to the floor and almost immediately stood straight back up.
Just glad the piledriver is making a small comeback never should've been banned. Though between this and Orton it shows that if you restrict a move too one peron or a couple of people, at most, it will always get over
As a wreslting fan i love this stuff. Thank you Stevie. Ill NEVER do this myself but its good to know how a true pro like Kev does it AND how to sell the fuck out of it like Cody.
Watching the piledriver and ddt over the years become moves you see in the middle of matches was so annoying. Saturday Night Main Event was such a breath of fresh air as there wasn’t all the false finishes.
Kevin Owens piledrove Orton and Cody. Both out of commission and taken to the hospital. Meanwhile in aew, during fletcher vs ospreay, will ospreay was dropped on his head like 17 times….for a two count.
I've taken a package piledriver from Brodie Lee during a match. Everyone in back and the crowd all thought he killed me. I would gladly take a piledriver from Owens or The Undertaker.
Just a thought, but I think the announcers / wresters could help put over the idea that the kind of piledriver that Kevin gave to Randy can be just as dangerous or even worse, by putting over the impact/damage to the neck in a twisting / whiplash kind of way rather than the head / compression kind of way that the head hitting the mat does. Comparing it to It would help to make it a safer bump while pushing the damage it can cause. Compare it to injuries from car accidents, hockey / football collisions, etc. It could really add to the lore, while protecting the talent.
I think a version of that piledriver punishment angle pitched by Stevie would be a great angle for Owens heat, maybe going through the Top 5 contenders
It must be reiterated that professional wrestling is not a place for someone who doesn't care about the safety and well being of others. The folks at WWE are all good people.
Fans know the business isn't "real", and I believe most would rather see an exposed "fake" pile driver, than see our favorite wrestlers get hurt. I ignored the exposed pile driver, and continued to buy into, and enjoy the story.
The fact that Randy let Owens perform that move is a testament how how much Owens is trusted because Randy famously likes to be very safe in the ring
I think after the Wrestlemania match with Stone Cold, Kevin is trusted as one of the safest guys on the roster.

On that Orton pile-driver you can tell Orton never hit by how KO leaned back, almost went to his back. Ko's crotch took the bump on that one lol
James needs to ask Stevie how he feels about being the reason we got The Dicks tag team in WWE!
I just find it weird they've taken this long to let anyone do a piledriver on TV despite multiple people at this point doing the Canadian Destroyer with no issues which is also a piledriver.
THE WINGED EAGLE IS BACK!!! THANK YOU STEVIE!!!!!!!! 😊
Stevie richards is a genius stripping KO of the title shot is perfect punishment
Charles Robinson is a legend 💫
I seen something that pentagon Jr was a possible signing and this is one of his many deadly moves so I kinda seen this as a opening to allow these moves to actually be on tv with a real damage angle considering how dangerous pentagon is
This was almost completely prefect.
You never knew when somebody might be going into business for themselves or not.
even with all the incremental improvements WWE has made since Triple-H took over, there is still this air of scriptedness that doesn't really let fans question what might have actually been real...
There is nothing wrong with over the top, but its a matter of knowing the spots... this should have been handled more seriously, and i just think that little bit took it from serious to "just part of the show" right at the last second.... it was perfect up until that exact moment... at least for me.
It's good you guys are covering this it's still dangerous.
Thanks for the breakdown Stevie!
Please bring old school belts back. I might watchers again after 20 years
Thanks for the breakdown Stevie, much appreciated! 👍
THis is beautiful move performed safely, it was one of the safest piledrivers I have ever seen.
The fact that they trust KO to work with Cody says it all. Perfectly executed, good sell by Cody.
Its also harder for kevin to handle randy because randy is 300 lbs now
This shows the trust Cody has with Kevin and this story is great 👍 love the channel!
When CM Punk came back he said "I'm not here to make friends I'm here to make money" ..... And then it was never mentioned again.
Kevin Owens's Package Piledriver looks great, I hope he used it more often in pay per view fights as its final finisher.
Cody's pile-driver looked extremely close! Well done!
Yo ..I love ya mane.. your videos are so enjoyable. Love the breakdown of this
Stevie gives a genuinely brilliant storyline here. Its not complicated but it works easily. KO gets to be a disgusting heel, theres a number of hurt guys with a potential return match cycle with him afterwards too. People mock the Hogan style that doesn't work for me brother but this has the and then we do this attached to it that Bischoff podcast always mentions was how you could get even likes of Hogan to buy in
16:00 this idea reminds me of Mark Henry's Hall of Pain run
Surprised Stevie didn't bring up how often AEW do piledrivers and treat it as just another move and talent kick out at 2
chairshots used to be a finisher, but ECW turned chairshots into regular moves that never end a match
Dudes in AEW will take a Piledriver on the steel ring steps and just be up 5 seconds later to do more moves as if nothing happened. I think the worst one I saw was someone took a Piledriver on the apron and just rolled down to the floor and almost immediately stood straight back up.
@@Noobie2k7 that sounds like something Sabu would do, LOL
They're treating this like Randys punt, and I love it
Just glad the piledriver is making a small comeback never should've been banned. Though between this and Orton it shows that if you restrict a move too one peron or a couple of people, at most, it will always get over
Penta El Zero Meido also does the package piledriver. he does the best one.
The cody piledriver looks very brutal
Kevin performs the best piledrivers I’ve seen so far
Owens pile driver was beautifully executed. ❤
KO is one of the safest wrestler I’ve seen in a long time…and he makes these moves look devastating.
Future HOF for sure
It is probably the safest piledriver you are going to see
I say its on par with Kane on Linda McMahon
As a wreslting fan i love this stuff. Thank you Stevie. Ill NEVER do this myself but its good to know how a true pro like Kev does it AND how to sell the fuck out of it like Cody.
Tiger Driver 91: Omega kick outs
Lightest piledriver ever: Orton on a stretcher
Kevin Owen's is the safest guy I can think of for this move to work and look legit
Watching the piledriver and ddt over the years become moves you see in the middle of matches was so annoying. Saturday Night Main Event was such a breath of fresh air as there wasn’t all the false finishes.
I'd like the same done for the DDT.
I'm good with the Orton one. They did tge responsible thing given his injury history.
Kevin Owens piledrove Orton and Cody. Both out of commission and taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile in aew, during fletcher vs ospreay, will ospreay was dropped on his head like 17 times….for a two count.
If Iwas ever a wrestler, I would fully trust my fellow Canadian Kevein Steen to do this and protect me.
I laughed when Owens did the Orton piledriver, he basically fell on his back with Orton on top of him.
I've taken a package piledriver from Brodie Lee during a match. Everyone in back and the crowd all thought he killed me. I would gladly take a piledriver from Owens or The Undertaker.
Kevin Owens is literally being bald Randy Orton in 08. Except instead of the punt it’s the pile driver.
Days later after Kevin Owens did the Piledriver on Randy Orton both were seen looking at a car
😂😂😂😂😂
I'm with you Stevie. Bring back the old belts and the old title format. That winged eagle title is still the most prestigious belt in wrestling
The old NWA big belt
I can only recommend to go back and watch Kevin's ROH work. You can clearly see the same kind of save work and care he has for his opponents.
I always liked Kawada Toshiaki Ganso Bomb it’s like a Piledriver Powebomb Hybrid Combo
Cody put up the 0 when he was down for Penta who is showing up and does the same move
I absolutely bought it. Very well done by both Athletes.
I have total faith that Cody was safe, but the way he sold it, I genuinely felt like he was hurt in the moment.
Kevin Owens is a great wrestler! He protects his opponent like anybody else dose
The Matt K guy you're talking about used to be on WWE the BUMP. I miss that show.
I think unless it’s a “I was always poor, need to feed my family” type of thing, bringing up doing it for the money would be more of a heel move
Neck safety awareness month! 😂😂😂
Chase Owens in NJPW Bullet Club has used the Package Piledriver for at least 10 years now.
It must be reiterated that professional wrestling is not a place for someone who doesn't care about the safety and well being of others. The folks at WWE are all good people.
What is the difference with the tumstone piledriver?
Fans know the business isn't "real", and I believe most would rather see an exposed "fake" pile driver, than see our favorite wrestlers get hurt. I ignored the exposed pile driver, and continued to buy into, and enjoy the story.
