After reading the new 4-hour Work Week I became an instant fan of Tim Ferris. But after watching this interview with Marie, my favorite mentor, I am a lifelong fan!
In the last five years, the decision that has made the most impact in my life was to stop drinking alcohol.
My mind is clear. I am more confident. I have started my own business, a business I tried once before but was unsuccessful. Now I am successful so far and truly believe I wouldn’t be if I were still drinking.
Thank you for all the great nuggets in this interview. Love you both!!

I'm quite literally in a state of wonderment and perplexity... this is going into the rotation of videos that I've been watching to keep me on track... thank you so much... you have no idea the value that this brought to my life on this particular day. I haven't been practicing this for 5 years, but the last 2 or so months every time a negative thought begins in my mind I say "I will not suffer" and just repeat until the anxiety of that negative thought dissipates away. Tim's simplest statement of just being a little bit kinder to yourself and the value that it brings to your life resonates so much with my entire being. I can already see the change in my mood, in my thoughts, in my interactions with my daughter... It's been the simplest and most transformative in such a small frame of time. Thank you... I had to comment and really express this ... so grateful for this masterful content.

In the past 5 years what has most improved my life? Journaling and meditation. The information I've garnered by the introspection is profound. I taught a journaling and meditation class by default, at a sober living residence. It cleared the way to help relax my body, and acknowledge that I am my worst enemy, so I'm changing that with spactatular results! I'm so much kinder to myself and that's becoming a habit. It absolutely affects every aspect and every area of my life. I'm so much happier with far less, I'm so much more appreciative of everything in my life- good and bad. Even though I don't even judge it as that anymore because I see that for me, everything has a purpose in my life. So, it's all good. Thanks for the GREAT interview with the GREAT Tim Ferris! Love you guys!

Wow! We are walking the same path, my sister. Incredible. This is the first time I have ever seen Tim Ferris. I've heard about his '20 hour work week' book but I couldn't believe the things he was saying about his growth and awakenings. I'm currently working on creating a new program that teaches and empowers the empath intuitive introvert entrepreneur who has a great many years of sorrows but must learn how to find their passions and explore their own vision, mission, voices through their spiritual awakening and transformation into healing of the inner child by making life into this creative masterpiece that shows them how to find their sacred dreams and create moments that are meaningful and reflective and that sets them up in a way to practice their own craft and get deep into themselves by routine writing that they can learn from and also use...to share their ideas and experiences as they learn to craft a joyful fun, exhilarating and passionate life that gets through the fear and perfectionism that keeps us frozen and anxious, and while suffering from depression and pain due to the martyrdom and sacrificial alter of saving others as if we were their savior! Healing comes from loving yourself rightfully and getting through the fears by gagging the brutal bullying of the inner critic within. Understanding that connecting with the divine and developing a Sacred routine that not only builds upon the creative but pairing the creativity with their spiritual life as well as their professional life. I really believe that being spiritual does not mean that we have to be these Hermits, locked away from the world while being far too much in the mind and seriousness. We are built to have joy, laughter, silliness, just as scripture points out and to respond to life with pure excitement and exuberance for enormous magic and adventure there is. So..it's a a matter of really creating art in your life as that inner child. Being free and independent while simply being your Truest, most genuine and sincere self

Wow so many points that hit me hard but the hardest thing is the final fact that >80% of my time that i could spend with my mom is already over. Now i will go and block out “mom time” at least half a day every week and then hopefully when we are able to travel again after the pandemic dies down we can go traveling together. I am grateful for both of you because this is such an inspiring helpful conversation.

I think we all underestimate his sensitivity. He intellectualizes a lot so we see a smart guy but it seems like he lives complex and profound emotions with hyper-empathy that led to a control / type A guy saving him from drowning. It is really pleasant to see, and I think that's why people connect with him, part of it being his ability to enounce clearly and directly what appears to be common sense, and part of it being that he is actually a deep guy trying to find meaning in life.

I listened to the 4 hour work week by this Author and I fell inlove with him instantly. Some of the things I heard was what I have thought to myself I could do in the past to be free of some of the stresses, but I told myself to shut up and get back to work. From then on anytime I come across an interview with Tim Ferriss everything else has to go on Hold. I Love everything about this interview but I am left with two Priceless Gems, "Three Table Created with heading Define- Prevent- Repair" and "Put on your Oxygen Mask First"

Third time listening to this in about a month. Already implementing the risk analysis tool. As for beliefs, I had a revelation last year: so much of the stuff that happens around me is NOT about me. For various reasons the stories I was telling myself were very me focussed and negative. I'm on a steady diet of asking 'what could this mean?' It's revolutionising my life. Thank you for making the time to do this interview.

Marie, oh Ms Marie, this "be nicer to yourself..." is the real shit. Seriously, just experienced it over the last year. Oh Mother of God, the constant punishing of ones self (for a bazillion different sets of reasons), is exhausting, like chronically exhausting. It is crazy how much more benefit we can be to the planet, if we just decide to accept ourselves and work to our strengths instead of beating our potential to death because of our perceived weaknesses.
Seriously so important that he talks about suicidal circumstances, depression and omg, being able to love someone only after we can fully love ourselves. So freaking good. Seriously, the consistent beating of ourselves is exhausting - like chronic exhaustion...

    Wow. I loved this.
I'm glad he discussed that risk/benefit worksheet. Doing this, I have convinced myself to take some very important leaps, including leaving my job, doing my business full time with my husband, selling all our belongings and moving to Guatemala for a year of service (which we just returned from) and now we are doing it all over again - but this time the destination is Santa Fe, NM. I couldn't have seen how we would be divinely supported thorough these leaps of faith, but doing the exercise did help make up some of the unfortunate faith gap and tame the voices of fear in my mind.
I have to say Marie, I have watched a lot of Tim Ferris and read his books too, and I’m noticing a big difference in his energy just in this first half hour of the interview. He’s not even discussing self-love he is just embodying it. “Beautiful softness” as you’ve described it - is apt. Fascinating to hear how he got there.
Thank you Tim for describing your struggle with depression and how you got to a place of self love, not in spite of, but actually including the depression. I counsel women and sometimes have a had a tough time identifying with and assisting women who describe themselves as depressed. This interview is a breakthrough for me, as I somehow know on a deep level that what you’ve said has given me some very powerful tools to be of higher service to those women.
Thank you also for elaborating on Jesus’ “golden rule” from Matthew 7:12. You explained perfectly how there is an internal dialogue that we need to address.
In the past 5 years, the thing that has made the biggest difference in my life is taking action on my intuition. Or as a Christian in Christian terms, the voice of the Holy Spirit.
    Best Regards,
    Laura Gabriele

Tun Ferris is so changed. I have followed him as I am a type A personality and I push myself really hard and am so hard on myself. His aura is so different. He has a sense of calmness and knowledge that I believe comes from being in a troubled place (mentally). I think I’m there, in that hard, but learning place...trying to figure things out...because I’m in a situation I NEVER wanted to be in, yet I believe I HAVE TO be where I’m at and go through what I’m going through (rock bottom and continuing to go down) so that I can learn and grow and understand, and be the person I wanted, and need, to be. I’ll get to my calmness, but for now it’s a freakin storm.

Marie, you have responded to my comments before, for that I thank you! My comments before had centered before about having PTSD. When your asked Tim about his dark times tears just flowed out of my eyes. Thank you for your candid choice of subjects you choose to cover. You have shown me over and over that despite all of our what we might think are unsermountable obstacles we can still succeed. I love you for that. My story is after 23 years in the fire service I had PTSD like so many of my brothers and sisters. This battle to overcome this has definitely had its very dark hours. Be assured that you have had an impact on helping me to overcome. For me I have found the best way to help me is helping others. I loved this chat! I have to say, thanks to Tim, the one simple but powerful thing that has changed my life over the last year was hearing him chat with Chase (and again with you) about the power of asking yourself "what would this look like if it were easy?" AMAZING!!! I guess when this one came to my inbox it was too long to watch right the way and i never got back to it. Watched the whole thing and I am floored. I have the 4-hour work week but never knew his personal story. I will share this interview, and buy the book and do many of the things he recommended. For the last 2 years I have been more mindful how I need to treat myself, like a "loved one". I am more of a giver, so this is hard. Morning routines, meditation, gratitude. All part of my practice. THE BEST thing I did in the last 3 years was to change my thoughts that I was not good with money. I am building wealth through real estate for me and my family. Many take aways from this interview but EVERYTHING reminded me of something important, or was really valuable or really touching. I will watch it again. Thank you, Marie and Tim.

This was truly one of the best interviews / conversations I've seen with Tim Ferriss and that I've seen you do Marie.
The last five years have been very up and down in my life with my chronic illnesses. One of the most important habits I've got into, is also meditation, I meditate with crystals and find that the most helpful technique for me currently. I've definitely been less self-destructive too, which can be very difficult when you have a lot of chaos in your life.
Even though things are still very tough in my life, I'm definitely learning more and more that I need more positivity in my life; both surrounding me and within myself. As negativity just breeds negativity, I've certainly learnt that the hard way.
Watching videos like this is exactly the sort of thing that I needed right now. Thank you for the incredible content you share with the world Marie! :)

Hi Marie and Tim, I enjoyed this discussion so much. I really appreciate that you both took your time, because it allowed Tim to open up in such an authentic and intimate way. I feel really touched by all that Tim shared with us and as a result I feel more confident and at peace. It is great to just spend time with someone so thoughtful, and who has such a loving heart and wonderful mind. The biggest change in my life, over the past five years was taking up daily meditation. I started "open heart" meditation 5 years ago, after doing 20 years of Vipassana or insight meditation. The practice of Open Heart is one of relaxation followed by prayer. It has completely transformed the way I encounter every aspect of my daily life, and I am so grateful to have the practice in my life because I can see, and feel that it has changed me, becoming more gentle and patient, and I am now so much stronger in a way that is "softer" rather than "harder." Much love to you both and I am heading over to Tim's website now to keep learning!

Thanks so much for this interview Marie. For so many years, I've tried to love everyone else apart from myself. My aim was to be the best daughter, sister, mother, friend etc. to everyone but I felt so unappreciated.
I thought everyone was suppose to love me for all the things I was doing for them. But I failed to recognised that I needed to love others as I love myself. Self love is key. When I started appreciating myself more, I've noticed a lot of changes. I've come to accept that I can't control everything and learned how to give myself a break.
The nuggets shared in this interview are great. I'll definitely watch it again.

thanks so much Marie- this is probably one of the best interviews yet!! I'm a huge fan of both you and Tim. He's such a great guy, I've had the pleasure of meeting him personally just last week and felt how warm and approachable he was. His down to earth personality was just a confirmation of how vulnerable and honest I felt he's always been in all his interviews and interactions with others. Thank you Tim again for diving so deep- your honesty and vulnerability will help so many. Love you both!

Tim, if you're reading this, know that I completely "see" you, and I love you very much. You're such an intelligent, interesting and lovable guy, and I hope I'll shake hands with you one day! You're incredible, keep that in your "funky neighbourhood" that is your mind 😉 All the best to you bro. PS: Marie, you too, as always. The way you connect with Tim is proof that you are at least as great as he is :-) Thank you so much to you both. 🙏

The best thing I've discovered that's happened in the last year or so, is what I call "Plug in to Plug out." I put my headphones in and climb to the top of a mountain, drowning out all outside noise and it puts me almost instantly into this very high level of meditative state, while also kicking my ass physically. It's kind of euphoric. :) Great interview! Tim Ferriss is quite an interesting fellow. I'd love to talk with him someday.

I really resonated with the "always have a budget for books", those are the exact words I used to tell my children. When they would ask for toys or useless "stuff" that they would forget and I couldn't afford, I would say no, but if you find a book, I can buy that. I raised 4 excellent readers, one of them is a screenwriter/producer, two are teachers (1 is an English teacher), and one that wants to work in the world of museums because she loves history thanks to books. They saw the library as a wonderful day destination and we always had a stack of books to read.

First of all Tim and Marie you are two of my idols! Second, Tim it is so refreshing to hear depression spoken about in the way that you have articulated it. Reading the four hour work week I feel like I can relate to you so much with all the random business ideas, travel and general inclination to try strange things for the challenge. I have done so many things in my life but it never feels like enough. I just want to be successful like the two of you are. I want to be happy and to make others happy. I hope that some day I can provide that kind of value for people!

Loved hearing Tim's story and his writing tips. I especially resonated with the idea of reaching those people who are most like you and that trying to make everyone like your book will weaken the connection those true fans might get from it by just being yourself. The question at the end has made me realize that a lot of the good habits and beliefs I had built up in the last five or six years have been abandoned in the last one. My anxiety has completely taken over again, and I know I need to find a way to realign with my dearest hopes and beliefs instead of all the fears. I need to be kinder and more compassionate with myself again, instead of berating myself for all of my perceived flaws in the same way I was treated by my peers during school.

Really realizing that short term practices have usually short term results and that having a great body will not happen overnight. Embracing that and taking the journey to the unknown greatness discovery. Another is being more realistic about when i put my alarm clock and waking up when it rings, cause i know otherwise i'll regret it!!! And lastly, that you are free and responsible. You CAN choose to do or not do sth , and be ready to embrace the side effects. Love, Toniaaa

What he said about the lights in the ICU, I think I experienced something similar. Also, for me, as a severly premature twin, my heart stopped some time, I was tube fed and on CPAP as I didn't breathe by myself, I believe for many months before they could have me home. I remember that when I was being babysitted later, that I fell asleep to looking at the babysitter's red blinking digital watch that was by the crib. I am not supposed to remember things from this early, I must have been 1 year. There are no photos from the babysitter's bedroom from when I was little, so I asked her later as an adult whether she had a small white digital watch that was red and regularly blinking. She confirmed this, and so I think that I found meditation through the light and this helped me fall asleep. I didn't know that the watch showed the time, but I noticed that the last numbers changed in some pattern, and sometimes the figures in front of it, and then in front of that . That felt comforting, there was some predictability, and the two dots between the numbers were like a regular beat. Today I am a painter and a choreographer. Obsessed with time, and so happy I survived.
    Thank you for this.
