  • Are the COP climate summits doing enough to help us avoid the most devastating impacts of climate change, or are they not fit for purpose, and designed to fail? COP29 is underway in petrostate Azerbaijan, headed by a CEO who was secretly filmed making oil and gas deals. Despite this, the team finds reason for optimism. They also hear from climate philosopher and activist Rupert Read, who runs the Climate Majority Project. He argues the COP process was designed to fail, that 1.5 degrees is dead and that adaptation - not mitigation - is the way to go. What do you think?
Bird migration is an extraordinary feat of evolution - but how exactly do they do it? We know the Earth’s magnetic field has something to do with it, but we’ve only just discovered the astonishing level of detail birds are able to get from it. Raising questions about bird intelligence, the team also hears how birds evolved from dinosaurs.

Gophers have an incredible capacity to shape their landscape. Gophers are small, burrowing rodents with long front teeth. And a decades-long study has shown that just one day of work by a gopher can completely revitalise soil in an area, changing its microbial diversity and preventing disease. Gopher productivity surely puts humans to shame.
Hosts Rowan Hooper and Penny Sarchet discuss with guests Madeleine Cuff and Sophie Bushwick.

I loved the studio version. Keep it up!

We need to find good high tension electricity instructors too worldwide too.

Maybe global average temperatures will drop dramatically if all those 85% of Stevenson weather stations are relocated to rural settings, instead of them being next to airport runways and heat outlets for buildings.

    There's no silver lining here.

With CO₂ emissions rising as they are, it’s not surprising we’re seeing these effects. I don’t think many people realize just how drastically emissions have increased in recent years. I actually made a video on this topic on my channel, breaking down the data-it's pretty eye-opening!

WE CAN NOT GO OVER 1.7 MAX WE NEED TO COOL THE PLANET NOW!!! THE ONLY WAY WE DO THAT IS TO GO NET CARBON NEGATIVE GLOBALLY.

We need more CO2, not less.

What is the right average temperature?

Can we put low tension DC batteries under solar panels before the electric is transformed to high tension ? Storage at both source and sink and move household lighting and circuits down to center tapper 48 Volts for lighting and consumer electrics.

It's possible, but the bayonet/screw fittings would have to be different to mains bulb fittings. The possibility of plugging in low voltage devices in higher voltage plugs could be a hazard.

Lower voltage (e.g. 48V) would require higher current for the same power. Higher current requires thicker wires, i.e. more copper. Moving to HIGHER voltages is a better idea.

@ not for consumer devices like computers, laptops, phone chargers, LED lighting. The idea is to get rid of switched mode power supplies everywhere and all the RF generated. Most of them are floating in the UK as our power lines are not balanced and rely on two capacitors to create a centre line with the neutral floating a few volts above earth.
