I think Scott will win because Mark tries to get him with topspin but he knows how to get it off from the ground, taking that weapon away from mark leaves mark with his serve and backhand.

Awesome match so far. I think Scott's gonna get this! Love the aggressive big hitting, going for shots, no holding back, that's what the modern game is all about. Respect to both players for coming out in front of the cameras and putting it all on the line.
After seeing this, Scott is making all the highlight shots, but until now he made just a few " too many" unforced errors. Mark can be just solid enough to make fewer mistakes. That is what wins most matches. If Scott is able to keep the pressure & make less mistakes, it can still Turn around for him. The camera watching is an extra opponent. It makes it so much harder to play your own normal game. Be loose, quick on your feet, quick in your mind agile on the court. A camera makes it so much harder. Great job guys!
This is a compelling match. It's the kind where players on adjacent courts might become spectators. Kudos to Ian and the competitors for giving us good tennis content.
This is awesome. Tennis matches can be so boring. This was definitely not boring. This was just good tv. Plus the camera angles are perfect. The pro tour should have the same back angle you do. Just that one angle makes this all great to watch. And why does Scott look more intimidating than any top pro I've seen on tour. He hulks every shot it seems like. Also I'd watch a series with Marks still the best to watch. And I love Ian's reactions. This was awesome.
The level of play and the production quality is so good, it's almost like a pro match. All you need is a booth to give commentary freely without distracting the players XD
Maintenance! My approach has been to always stay active and competitive, and I spend a decent amount of time in the gym to keep muscle mass and flexibility. Speed does drop off a little, but I run, sometimes doing intervals (200-800m) at an uncomfortable pace to push myself. I don’t have a rigid diet, but I generally eat relatively healthy. I’ve been pretty lucky to stay healthy this long, but I work at it and I’m mindful of my limits.

@@EssentialTennis thanks Ian, great watching part 2 yesterday. I could still see, just my observation, that Scott was tight and was feeling the pressure of the situation. Mark is a really good player, I wish I had either one of these guys to hit and play with right now. Mark had a slight advantage having been on this channel before. Would love to see a rematch between these two. Scott would play a lot better and more relaxed I think. My regular tennis partner is out for another month. I only have played one hr in 2 weeks. No excuse because I have a good ball machine and need to develop some new muscle memory on the changes I am trying with my one hand backhand. But, I need to seek out some players, hopefully ones a bit better who push us to hit an extra ball during a rally or follow up on a shot that is usually a winner but not so much with this person. Keep the great content coming! Awesome matchup between these two. I think we are also waiting on the Ian vs. Green Shirt (MEP) matchup too! Hope your ankle/foot recovery is going well Ian!
I love both players and here is what I learned based on the video: Mark: Mark is very consistent but can make a few errors here and there which is expected from any tennis player that lives and breathes and especially with the cameras on him. Sometimes I notice when he makes an unforced or forced error, he talks to himself a little bit loudly which I can understand but I would work on that because it gives the opponent the sense that that shot or strategy gets Mark annoyed and will bring down his game mentally. Mark hits very clean and I love the one-handed backhand. Especially on the return of serve Mark is ready and sharp despite the fact that he may have missed a few serve returns in every service game of Scott. As said at 4:47 sometimes when you are pushed deep it is harder to hit the ball but at the moment I would try to hit a higher ball with more depth so you have more time and more pressure on the opponent when you return to the middle of the court. Marks serve is also fantastic with not only power but a very accurate placement and that gets Scott moving and making forced errors and dumping those balls into the net or hitting it long. I loved the strategy displayed by Mark as well. When Scott would hit a deep ball to his backhand with spin or just regular topspin, he would slice it back but make it a deep one and Scott would usually miss a lot of those due to the spin and depth of the ball and that was played and executed very well in my opinion. Example: (5:48) Scott: Scott is a great player with an amazing serve with the same placement and power that can be easily generated. His second serves are also not a liability and can attack Mark with the spin and accurate placement. I feel like the pressure got to him because there are many cameras in and as mentioned in the beginning it felt very tense and not loose at all. Mark experienced the pressure before so that is a big asset for Mark but very well played to shake off that pressure and continue fighting and holding serve I feel that Scott may have a bigger and better serve but Mark's serve is not that far behind. Scott just generates a bit more speed and less double faults although Mark could hold his serve equally as well as Scott did. I would work on returning better since Mark's serve is not as powerful as Scott but Scott made around the same amount of mistakes. (Again I will tribute this to the pressure) I also noticed on Scott's return that he tends to punch the ball back a lot (which Scott does as well) but Scott's punches seem to land in the middle of the court while Mark's punches travel to the end which is better since it pushes the opponent back more. (Not all the time but in some of the cases) So again a little bit more work on Scott's return and that would be amazing. Towards the end and the middle Scott noticed that his blocks weren't too effective and changed it to attack more and move in more to pressure Mark which was an astute call Overall, these players are both amazing and can generate an amazing match which I can't wait for Part 2. Man! Let’s us watch the whole match - can’t sleep! Pure cruelty! If I was Mark in the first set, I will combine my game with slice, it seems that Scott’s struggles with that because he was focusing on just hitting harder
Wow. These guys are brilliant players. Strong ground strokes and serves, incredibly fast feet from Mark; Scott is just a beast, especially with serves and forehands...Keep it up guys. Ian, this is just brilliant. Can't wait for the next match. Possibly, analysis of these player's strategies in more detail from you later on from you Ian? Cheers!
@@MarkSansait Perhaps Warner Brothers should consider a character called "The Flash with a Tennis Racquet"...jokes aside, keep it up Mark! Your mentor is pretty awesome too.
I am loving this match. The confessionals are great and the candid "thoughts-out-loud" are super entertaining. Based on his commentary, Ian seems to have already picked Scott as the better player and Mark "putting up a good fight". I tend to agree, but they both look equally talented to me. It can go either way. This video is nicely done! Please do doubles next time - same format! :)
Self Assessment, I'm 4.5, after watching few games specially Mark and Ian, I think I'm 4.0. After watching this game probably I'm 3.5. I hope the part 2 won't bring me down to 3.0. Nice game to both, excited to see the part 2. Also I saw the microwave behind Ian, hot pockets will be steaming hot there next time you invite Super Saiyan Mark for next game.
The way Mark "KO" you though. Got me everytime😆. Hope you fully heal soon. I twisted my ankle on the court too. Without patient, its never been the same. It will not be like that for you✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
One comment I absolutely must leave for Mark... Something I've had to tell my advanced students or people I've worked with... You MUST try to reduce your negative comments. It's natural to feel discouraged, upset whatever with yourself but if you do so, also do the opposite. Tell yourself "good shot" when you do hit one. "Nice serve" whatever. Say positive things to yourself. I learnt that from Jim Loehr himself at a seminar.
On a mental note, you have players that talk to you and say complements. Ignore them, don’t say anything to them, focus on the following point. Stay steady.
This will be good for me to start doing what Craig O'Shaughnessy does best. Break down the stats. So far, from what i can tell, there were a lot more short rallies. Which is what he always makes note of- how a majority are short rallies.
@@MarkSansait love it. I’m down for a mic’d up match over the holidays when I’m in town essential tennis! Been playing a lot out in DC so I’ll be ready for a 5.0 match. 🙋🏼♂️🔥
The first moment of Scott's serve Setup I thought ... well that looks a bit static and undynamic compared to the serve video from Ian with Mr. "Casually 90mp/h Serve" a bit ago ... but after that first hit I wish my Serve would be that "undynamic and static" like Scott "Isner" Broady's over here. Nice serve bombs mate!
Fantastic stuff. Scott does have good hands, but he's being overly aggressive on Mark's serve. I don't have a problem with him attacking the 2nd serve, but there were quite a few first serves that he was returning well inside the baseline while moving forward. Almost as though he was looking to chip and charge. Both have really good forehands, but their backhands look slightly vulnerable. Gripping contest.
Was that an easy enough feed for you? If you were truly committed you would have dove for that! XD I love the self-trash talking that happens here. I'm soooo in for seeing more of Mark's matches.
If you check out my channel - I do tennis string reviews on a very regular (weekly) basis. My set up: Yonex Ezone 98 (2020) stock form with Solinco Hyper G 16 @ 55lbs. I believe on this video I was playtesting the Luxilon Alu Original 16g.... I still like Hyper G better for my tournament play though.
Nice match. I felt like Scott is the better player because of his serve and forehand. I have a feeling he will comeback to win. But, maybe, Mark is too much of a fighter. Mark seems to be stronger mentally. Can’t wait for part 2
I know it's a good serve, I hit it. Wow, they must love each other to have that confidence to say that to your opponent. That's the way I talk to my best friends.
This is a set that was determined by youth. Both are extremely similar in skill level, but even though Scott was controlling most of the points, Mark was running for every point no matter how far. This payed off well for Mark.
Is this NTRP 4.5??? WOW....in my country's level...they both are higher than 5.0...they are so good!!!!!! and also I do love the scott's effortless serves....they are so powerful!!!
Based on the highlights I believe Scott should win if he plays wit a bit more confidence. His doesn't hit enough first serves in and he should try to attack a bit more in my opinion. Also I rarely see matches played on clay in the US. Here in the Netherlands we mostly play on clay which makes the rallies a bit longer and the serve less dominant. Do you intend on playing on clay in the near future and what are in your opinion the biggest tactical differences in play between hard and clay courts?
I think they both played really well. Congrats Mark! I actually think I played really well yesterday! I hit like 7+ winners! My best one was a down the line backhand right in the ally! My best one yet! Pretty much all I heard was awesome Danica! Great shot! One person even said wha...when I returned the ball! We played doubles and the partner would always say sorry, my fault. I was like don’t worry about it! Except some ball were mine and they jump out in front and me thinking I could’ve gotten it. But you can’t blame the partner. Sometimes that’s a little hard. Have you ever thought that? But, yeah Mark and Scott played really well from my POV!
I have an idea: An Essential Tennis Tournament with like a Main Draw and Maybe constellation. Social Distancing of course but that would honestly be great IMO. We will see who will battle to win! Each tournament of caliber maybe every few months. This would be great to see who would battle it out and win. The losers would have to redeem themselves next. Same tournament with doubles too.
Mark micd up is one of the funniest tennis players I have ever heard. The amount of self hating and passive aggressive comments under his breath are making me chuckle 😂😂😂
Mark, I noticed that you land behind the service line on your serve. Perhaps if you tried tossing farther into the court and landing farther in, you might get more power on your serve. Otherwise, great match!
Based on the highlights, who do you think will win - Mark or Scott?
I think Scott will win because Mark tries to get him with topspin but he knows how to get it off from the ground, taking that weapon away from mark leaves mark with his serve and backhand.
scott was looking real good in those highlights!
Scott
I think Scott because he has more experience

Man! Let’s us watch the whole match - can’t sleep! Pure cruelty!
If I was Mark in the first set, I will combine my game with slice, it seems that Scott’s struggles with that because he was focusing on just hitting harder
the honesty in his voice always makes me click that like it's insane haha
you guys are brilliant. love this. keep going.
Cheers!
🙏
@@MarkSansait Perhaps Warner Brothers should consider a character called "The Flash with a Tennis Racquet"...jokes aside, keep it up Mark! Your mentor is pretty awesome too.
@@-Munditimum- that super hero literally already exists in real life.
Alex DeMinaur
@@MarkSansait Very true!
Scott seems to be used to a slower surface as his timing seemed to by slightly off at the beginning (despite the nervosity). But he adapted quickly.
Great observation!
Great stuff, loving this videos!
😳😭
@@MarkSansait hahaha what's the crying emoji for? does this mean you lost?
@@jend4494 sad that it seems that Ian has picked Ian
I miss this competition
Love these videos. Funny and exciting ☺️👍
Lovin' the commentary!
My only thought is will that microwave leave my Hotpockets half cooked or thoroughly cooked?
I want the microwave power level to be OVER 9000!!!!
That’s just excellent. Great job fellas
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man I really wish I could play on this court! Looks like a great time
I love these private courts!
The way
Mark "KO" you though. Got me everytime😆. Hope you fully heal soon. I twisted my ankle on the court too. Without patient, its never been the same. It will not be like that for you✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
🙏
Excellent video!
Scott's returns are crazy good.
I believe everyone handles stress/anxiety differently.
My outlet is sarcasm and laughter
@@MarkSansait that's cool, but try some positive comments sometimes. In your head, out loud, doesn't matter.
10:08 SABS - sneak attack by Scott. Loved it
Very streaky playing. I play very similarly to Scott. Opponent just has to be steady and win their service games.
On a mental note, you have players that talk to you and say complements. Ignore them, don’t say anything to them, focus on the following point. Stay steady.
He’s making these points short and awkward, like you.
Mark is always extra funny during match pressure.
This will be good for me to start doing what Craig O'Shaughnessy does best. Break down the stats. So far, from what i can tell, there were a lot more short rallies. Which is what he always makes note of- how a majority are short rallies.
Let's go boys! love the setup!

@@MarkSansait love it. I’m down for a mic’d up match over the holidays when I’m in town essential tennis! Been playing a lot out in DC so I’ll be ready for a 5.0 match. 🙋🏼♂️🔥
Inspiring to see this level at 52! I hope I can maintain it as I turn 39 soon!
I hope so too my friend!
XD
I love the self-trash talking that happens here. I'm soooo in for seeing more of Mark's matches.
It would be good to know your guys' setups - racquet, string, tension, customisation...I love that stuff!
Mark is a funny guy. With the mic on, I will watch him anytime :)
I never knew I wanted this, but can we get videos of Ian watching pro tennis matches in real time?
@essentialtennis for commenting professional commentatorship?
Interesting idea, Nolan....
7:11 "you're not really blonde" haha!
😿
and he said it's blonde because he turned super saiyan lol
Nice match. I felt like Scott is the better player because of his serve and forehand. I have a feeling he will comeback to win. But, maybe, Mark is too much of a fighter. Mark seems to be stronger mentally. Can’t wait for part 2
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿
solid content! I wish I was in the area, would have loved to play Mark. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
This is entertaining. Great game
Glad you're enjoying it!
I know it's a good serve, I hit it. Wow, they must love each other to have that confidence to say that to your opponent. That's the way I talk to my best friends.

😆
Hey Ian, do you know what Mark and Scott's UTR are? They look better than 4.5 to me!
This is a set that was determined by youth. Both are extremely similar in skill level, but even though Scott was controlling most of the points, Mark was running for every point no matter how far. This payed off well for Mark.
The only reason I stay young is because i bathe in the blood of the innocent every morning
The video quality is very gud!
This looks much higher than 4.5 for both players.
Is this NTRP 4.5??? WOW....in my country's level...they both are higher than 5.0...they are so good!!!!!! and also I do love the scott's effortless serves....they are so powerful!!!
Thanks for watching!
Fun to watch.. 5.0 Serving and 2.5 Ground Strokes so far 5 minutes in.
agreed - it was a big serving match up in this video (except for the last 2 games).
Probably on of the most entertaining matches ever..Tom 4.0
Based on the highlights I believe Scott should win if he plays wit a bit more confidence. His doesn't hit enough first serves in and he should try to attack a bit more in my opinion. Also I rarely see matches played on clay in the US. Here in the Netherlands we mostly play on clay which makes the rallies a bit longer and the serve less dominant. Do you intend on playing on clay in the near future and what are in your opinion the biggest tactical differences in play between hard and clay courts?
LET’S GO!!!!!!
LEGOOOOO
Gotta feeling this will be another high view video in any case. But...old guys rule. Go Scott.
Thanks for watching!
Nice match. I’m pulling for Scott.
so am i!
Thanks for watching, Ernie!
Mark Sansait nothing personal I'm an old guy also.
Hype train incoming
Mark in three, right?
@@seanmurphy7858 I'm hoping i can even take @scottbroady to 3 sets 😁
Best of five on clay next summer!
Scott has very powerful Forehands. But his backhand made too many mistakes. But he is really fast for his age.
I'm old so I say team Scott and Mark needs to get off my damn lawn...um tennis court
LFMAO
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@EssentialTennis Yes I did! Tennis is the best sport in the world!
Thank you!
@@MarkSansait You’re welcome! 😉
I have an idea:
An Essential Tennis Tournament with like a Main Draw and Maybe constellation.
You should play a Brit. Would be super interesting to see how a 4.2/5.1/5.2 level UK player would do. A bit of comparison of ratings. systems.
