    Speed Triple was actually the closest to his brief - a good step up from an SV650 with a deceptive amount of real-works pace and sporty enough handling. They can definitely hold their own on track with that glorious 3-banger engine! Fireblade was a bit excessive which just played into the Gixxer’s hands as being the ‘just right’ bowl of porridge.
    Not sure if you could get one in budget - but a Ducati Hypermotard would have been my left-field choice. Utterly hilarious for an hour’s ride or two on the road, awesome fun on track (remember Casey Stoner’s promo videos?), not massively intimidating power - plus, Ducati. ❤

    • @bennettsbikesocial
      @bennettsbikesocial  Год назад +7

      I honestly thought the Triumph would have been perfect for Gareth but we couldn’t test it on track (which is where he’d have changed his mind!). Ducati would have been mega - I recall doing the press launch of the Hypermotard 950 which was a hoot on a twisty track!
      Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Michael.

    Hi guys, thanks for Bennett’s and bikesocial for the great experience. I’m thinking about making a video of my plans with the gsxr 750 I have purchased since the program was filmed getting ready for its track day debut. It’s not going to be a full track bike just a road bike with a few tweaks. Then maybe show my experience of arriving at a track and show how’s things run and what you need to do etc? I’ll be doing this from a novice perspective like a beginners guide? I don’t know if this sounds interesting to anyone? Thanks Gareth Reed (kipsy) 👍

      You have the best all round sportbike of all time. I had plenty of 1000s, I had Hayabusa x 3, and had the 2016 Ninja H2. All were fantastic bikes but the old Gixxer 750 put the biggest smile of all. The best handling, agile bike with power to weight virtually nothing can touch especially around corners. I had an L8, a K7 I tracked and now the beautiful model the 2010 - absolutely love them. In combination with my 2019 Suzuki Katana I have the best of both worlds. Suzuki rules 👍
      Congratulations and enjoy 👍

    Great series! After the first two bikes, I was thinking, "A Suzuki GSXR 750 would be perfect." And then the mystery bike was none other than...a gixxer! I had purchased a 2020 KTM 1290 SDR and found it was way too much for Western Colorado's mountain roads. I found a '98 Honda VFR 800 that works out perfectly for me.

    The Speed triple is surprisingly faster on the track than you would think as a result of the immediate spread of power off idle all the way to redline that allows one to pull out of corners faster than most superbikes without shortening the gearing.

  • @MHDarlington
    @MHDarlington Год назад +4

    Toughest one yet, I’d say, due to the really wide choice; “sporty, comfy, able to do a few track-days” could be pretty much anything short of a Himalayan or a Harley. Great shows and very entertaining. I wasn’t surprised he found the ‘Blade a bit much though I’d say the GSX-R 750 isn’t that far behind. How about being allowed two choices each (just you guys, not the expert) with one likely/sensible and one left-field choice?

    For the purpose of the video, I'm with Michael on the Speed Triple recommendation despite Gareth's ultimate choice (which I view as safe and familiar, and understandable). Personally, I'd have recommended spending a sizable percentage of his budget on track / racing school lessons before making any choices.

    I know what bike next!
    Pretty sure you wouldn’t guess! Two years ago it’s was CBT and a Suzuki GXS-S125 and 5,000 miles. After some lessons on a SV650 and my test pass my first big bike last year a 21 plate 241 mile Honda CBR650R I have added 6,000 miles on last year. I was planning to run it for another year or two Before changing to anything more powerful. But then my son burnt out the rear tyre Dow to the cords on his Ducati V4R and we stopped at his dealer to get a tyre swapped and I oggled the gorgeous Panigale V2 demonstrator.
    Dealer offered me a go and explained I wasn’t in the market but he said dealer demo day next week and I could resist.
    Rode 4 Ducati’s but the V2 blew my mind, what a machine.
    New job 2 months ago and my son got me a deal and she arrives very soon!
    Hope your guest enjoys his next bike as much as I plan to!

I chopped it in after about 6 months for a Motoguzzi California (slated by press and public alike) and I absolutely loved it - so much so that I had another 2 after that. Many bikes later I'm now on an XR for touring and a Thruxton R for weekend blasts - the two most beautiful bikes ever made - and I still take regular trips into the garage just to look at them both :)

    After riding the Gixxer for a month he'll be back in the shop begging these blokes to trade him for the Speed Triple LOL Those racer replica ergonomics are gonna kill his back, knees & wrists! Too funny 🙂

      @@bennettsbikesocial I'd happily be an applicant, however I'm a bit far away (in NZ). Nonetheless, it's great to see a range of bikes and different applicants (I'm 6ft 2).
      Keep the great work up, it's refreshing to see something different.

      Hi Jamie, they have to be accurtae in order for us to publish them. We take every premium of the specific model chosen that we insure as close to publishing the video as possible, and find the average.
      Hope that helps,

    My choices for him would be Honda CBR600RR, Yamaha R6, Triumph Daytona or if he'd like to keep the naked look from his SV650 a Triumph Speed Triple. Bit of a budget stretcher would be the oft overlooked Moto Guzzi Griso 1200 8V.

    Interesting to see a bike in that emporium being described as shiny and clean!, I’m local to Donington Superbike factory and quite often nip in for a coffee and a look around the showroom, many of the bikes on display are dirty and scratched with signs of corrosion, I asked a salesman why they were so poorly presented, he said “we do clean them but the mechanics take them for test rides and they get dirty again” 😂😂😂, I may look like an idiot but I’m actually not 🙂, I can only imagine that in truth they arrive from whatever source and are wheeled uncleaned in whatever condition they have arrived into the showroom, it’s not really good enough IMO.
    Interesting to see that he got to test ride the bikes, when I asked to test ride one I was told it wasn’t allowed!!!, in fact your not allowed to sit on their bikes without first going to find a sales assistant, if their prices we much lower than other dealers then perhaps they could be forgiven for the condition of the bikes, but they are not.

    Maybe he would like a GSX-S750 or 1000? A bit more roomy than the GSX-R for someone 6'2". Get's that Suzuki feel and solid reliability and a nice step up in performance from the SV650.

    I still own a Speed Triple. I used to own a GSXR. But have never been on a Blade. The Triumph is all about the look and that engine. Not very comfortable for me. The GSXR. I wish I never sold. I have had a number of bikes. Still have two. Best bike I ever had was the Suzuki. It fitted like a comfy carpet slipper. Did everything better than I could. They are amazing bikes.

    2016 wasn't that long ago, but i don't know if you can compare that speed triple to the 2024 street triple R. however, i imagine there would be some similarities...
    so he keeps saying it has tons of power on the street but he doesn't think it would be all that great on the track. hearing him say that, and having experienced a street triple at its top speed a few times, i don't think he ever wound it up high enough to find out what it's like at those speeds. with my street triple, you don't get its full power until you go over 110 mph or so. as in, the ecu literally doesn't give you full power until it thinks it's really necessary. so what i'm trying to say is, i think he would have been surprised to find out it's even more powerful on the track than he may think it would be.
