I bought a 705 a couple weeks before my general test. Just happened it was the JARTS annual contest weekend. I was receiving from Japan, Russia, Bulgaria, Canada and many in US on a antenna not for 20M. I'm searching for a video to show me how messages are sent.
Awesome! Just received my 705 a little over a week ago and have been reading up on RTTY and got overwhelmed by the detailed information. This is nice and simple. Now I want to connect to my computer and dive deeper into a rag chew.
Pretty neat. I was working with RTTY yesterday. The only problem is sending his call sign on the fly. What you showed is good for search and pounce. To send a CQ and answer someone, you have to send his call sign. Icom did not give an easy way to send his call sign. It's doable but very cumbersome. Icom should have provided a USB slot so one can use a wireless keyboard. But, cumbersome RTTY is better than no RTTY at all ! Barry, KU3X/QRP
Adam if you wanted to send a real time message threw a keyboard than how do you send? In other words say F12 on the keyboard sends. How does the radio know when to switch to transmit?
So RTTY would probably be the closest thing to what you’re looking for, if you’re trying to do this without a PC. Using the 705 and an external keyboard the best you can do is edit your preset RTTY memories and send that way. You could get closer to “real-time” functionality using JS8CALL or RTTY with FLDIGI, but you’d have to use an external PC.
Would you key and hold the mic and wait for you’re message to be fully sent before un-keying or press the transmit button on the top left of you’re radio and wait till message sent than un press the transmit button
I do not think so. The best solution I have found was to change the preset RTTY memories using the touch screen. The only way I have found to use RTTY “real time” was with a PC connected using something like FL Digi.
This is the most concise RTTY demo on the 705 I have seen to date. Thank you!

Thanks for watching!
It's a fun rig. Hope you enjoy it!
Great video! Thank you. 705 is just a great QRP radio. A masterpiece of Japanese engineering.
It really is amazing, and so packed with features.

You're right, it is cumbersome to send RTTY with this radio. Maybe that can be improved somehow in future firmware.
Also, you can use the buttons on the mic to send memory 1 & memory 2,
I didn’t know that. Thanks!
Will you make some more 705 videos? Great explaination! Thanks
Sure! I didn’t know if anyone would even be interested it this. Thanks for watching.
Yes make more vids
Good demo thanks! 73

You don’t have to do anything but press the memory text that you want to send. The 705 will take care of the transmit keying.
Можно ли по Блютузу подключить внешнюю клавиатуру и с ней работать RTTY?
