I'm from Washington State but have been living overseas for 7 years now. I started for 2 years in NZ (which I'll probably go back to) and have been based in Aussie for the remainder of time. It's so much fun adjusting to new ways of living, lingo, driving, ect. Enjoy the initial stages, it's crazy how quickly you just adapt. It's your new normal after awhile, sometimes I have to pinch myself!
Carrie I have been watching you for years and this is my favourite phase. It's so inspiring watching you two. My husband and I bought our first home recently. We're doing so much more on it than we expected and we love it... Although since having our baby house things have slowed a little. I was never someone who knew how to do these things but it's amazing how fast you learn. Life is beautiful.
You made me cry, Carrie... Some thing come in good time to hear or see, this video was just like that. My husband is such a hard worker just like Alex, it was a good reminder to give some credit and love for it. Thank you! I lived in many countries, my heart is with you it is a beautiful experience
I lived in Australia for a year and when I tell you I relate so much to everything you’re saying! I had to learn to drive manual while also driving on the left side of the road for the first time. I’m a barber so learning the metric system was critical. The temperature conversion, picking up on the new lingo etc. makes everyday a slight challenge. So worth it!!!
Hi Carrie! I’ve been following you for years. It’s amazing how much your life has changed. I love seeing this new phase in beautiful New Zealand. The homestead and the surroundings are magical and so calming. Really enjoying your videos. So happy for you and Alex. Love from Argentina ❤️🙌🏻
So pleased that your bathroom renovation will be happening soon, how exciting for you both! You have both worked so hard already, it will feel amazing once the floors are finished and you can start to bring your furniture in. I look forward to yours and Alex's videos every week
You have both learned these things through practice not theory. The best way to learn. These are labours of love because it is YOUR house, not a rental. Take your time. Enjoy the process. You're living in a little slice of heaven. Bless.
Those pink flowers are Alstroemeria aurea (Peruvian lily). I have them growing here in Auckland and they can become very thuggish if not carefully controlled.
Carrieeeeeee !!! I came across ur channel forever ago in the middle of pandemic.. when I very first starting looking into gardening and I one of the first people I came across!!! U r such a sweet spirit and ur love for ur hubby is so admirable I looooove to hear couples building eachother up and listening to things they love about their spouse. Thank u for teaching me so much !
Keep taking before and after shots, great to look back a year or so later as you kinda forget how much you have done and what it was like before. I often forget what we have managed to do so far, (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, lounge, decks, driveways, wiring, new walls and gardens, plantings, veggie garden, orchard etc) just like what you guys are starting out on. One other tip if you need to put in new walls say for a bathroom, take photos that show where the wiring and studs are before you cover the frames with gib (plasterboard) so you know where to drill for hanging bathroom vanities etc. If going with floorboards, try get good insulation under them, you will thank yourselves in the winter. Good work so far, and well done to you for learning to drive on the opposite side.
I think it's a lovely idea to appreciate the wood floors after rejuvenating them. I guess you'll be able to gauge whether you really need carpet when full winter sets in. As a child living in rural south-west Queensland, Australia, we didn't have carpet anywhere, just wood floors and good quality rugs, and our winters were bitterly cold. Back then I thought carpet was the bees knees, now I just love old, characterful wooden floors.
Your doing an amazing job and all the rest will fall into place. Can I just say Woolsen lounging with Frida and Guido in the grass is so sweet. Tomorrow my daughter and son-in-law go to closing on their new house. It's exciting starting a new phase in life.
Hi Carrie! Those flowers are light pink alstroemeria's! They come in a bunch of other colors too, I have some in my backyard they are sooo pretty :) Loved the orchard chat🌸💕
Love the orchard chats Carrie. Be careful not to create a mental block by calling it the "other" side of the road cause its not, any more. Just keep your passenger on the kerb and you're good. Love your work. ✌
Struggles teach us how strong and capable we are. Love your homestead content and especially when you open up about the struggles because you and Alex moving abroad is pretty adventurous. It's probably great fun but I'm sure not always easy
My husband is the same way, super dedicated, focused and quick learner! It’s the best haha. We’re saving up for a homestead as well and I’m so excited to be living the life like you soon!
hey super late comment. But if I want to move to the countryside in the near future (not currently married) is that something that I should take as a dealbreaker (not red flag) if my future spouse don’t agree? Because I have strong reasons why I want this life.
Carrie, if need to do conversion use your calculator. It usually has different function such as temperature and length etc etc. the app is found on computers and cell phone.
Thank you for this escape to your beautiful, peaceful homestead! 💗 I look forward to your videos each week. 😍 Looking back, the best decisions I've made are the ones where I trust my instinct and leap without knowing all the details in advance. You are inspiring! It is so fun to follow your journey of learning as you go. ✨
Hi Carrie, I love the video (getting up in the morning on Tuesdays and Saturdays, sitting down with a chilli hot chocolate and watching your and Alex's videos is my favourite new routine). Just wanted to say you and Alex have inspired me to get back into the garden this spring, (I just sat down and ate a salad with all my home grown produce!) So thank you for making such lovely videos week to week, the mindset you both have (learn as you go, do a bit at a time, things take time) has been so encouraging re my gardening journey - thank you for helping me get back into doing a hobby I love 😊
I can’t like this enough…. You are such an inspiration. Been following you for years and years and seeing you move to New Zealand has been incredible. Hello from your neighbour country in Australia.
My husband, kids, and I (we’re a blended family with 6 kids) are moving from Utah to Texas soon and it’s really scary sometimes. We don’t know a single person there! I’ve moved 40ish times in my life and I’m only 31, but I’ve been living in the same general area of the country for the last 13 years. The last time I made a move this huge was going from Philadelphia to nowheresville Idaho when I was 17, but I was in college and it was so much easier to meet people then. We know it’s the right thing to do but it’s such a huge change. The scenery is different, the weather is different, the people are different, etc. etc.
Aww- just what I needed! I found myself wishing that you posted on Mondays, because I was needing my Carrie fix, and what a lovely surprise to see the notification come through!.. I’m so excited for you regarding your bathroom! That would make a wonderful Christmas present! Looking forward to seeing how that comes along! Do you guys have a second bathroom to use while the renovations are taking place?.. And, loved seeing you in the orchard. Made me hungry for some fresh cherries! Hehe!
Carrie I really enjoy your Vlogs and chats about living in the moment This is much nicer listening and watching you and the birds chirping in the back ground you dont get this in a magazine thxs for sharing your GREAT.
Homesteading is a beauty. We are just getting started with ideas. I just found your channel and these Homesteading in New Zealand videos are such a dream! ♥️ so excited I found your channel. God bless ♥️
Those flowers are austa marriera or purivian lily. There are native red ones in Mississippi and we can grow the others here too. This summer we went 3 months with out rain. Love your show!!!!!
You are both doing so well in your move down under. I think you make a great team and a gorgeous couple. It is lovely to watch it all unfold. Blessings
I have so much empathy for your driving block. It took me ages to get behind the wheel in NZ too. Had to watch it for ages before I could contemplate actually doing it. 😬 Once again, another spirit-lifting episode from a lovely creator. 👍🏼
I love your love and admiration for Alex, that was so sweet 🥰 I know you must love to see Woolson thriving but do you ever miss baby Woolson? Him and Waddles are so cute 😊
Hi Carrie. You need to macerate your strawberries in the Peplers Black Rasberry vinagrette... you won't regret it! We usually go through our bottles of them fast!
Alstromerias are the flowers you couldn't remember the name of. They can be quite the invasive pest plant depending on the variety, but oh so pretty in their weediness I love them :)
I struggled with roundabouts for the longest time. I also looked in the strong side for the rear view mirror, and of course the blinker and windshield wiper mix up. I'm 2.5 years in NZ and I had someone recently tell me I drive like an overly cautious new driver.
i completely agree with your point of moving to the country making you feel more confident & capable. like YES i will lift that 50 lb feed bag! YES i will use a chainsaw! it's such a relief to just depend on yourself :')
I am so proud of how far you 2 have come since moving here. The transformation to your home is incredible. I'm glad you're going to preserve your fruit. I love preserving, a skill that is getting lost nowadays in nz I reckon. Looking forward to the next videos. You should put a po box address up so your fans can send you xmas gifts for your 1st Xmas in nz 😁😁😁 keep up the good work 👏
Hey Carrie. I’m loving your vlogs, loving the difference between yours and Alex’s vlogs. How is Waddles? Have you guys thought about getting goats to keep the grass in the paddocks down? They eat anything and don’t mind the length of the grass, if you put them in the orchard you’ll have to protect the trees in case they start eating the bark. The house looks beautiful, you should be very proud of all you’ve accomplished 😁👍🏽💜
Loving your content it makes me so happy each and every upload ✨ Wondering what camera you have been using recently for your videos. I did click on the link for the DSLR but it didn’t work. Looking for a new camera & love the quality 🎥🙏🏽
Even moving from metric Canada, it’s a change to see things like appliances and furniture measured in mm instead of m or cm. It seems silly here and I’m constantly converting to a more sensible unit ;)
Alstromerias. I have learned that if you change your water and take care of them, they will last a long time. Someone probably already stated that. I am behind on my videos and catching up this week as our household has Covid.
Hi Carrie, you'll get there with your driving, hit those Country back roads to build your confidence, have you tried 'Ranui Strawberries' 🍓 so delish and juicy from Julian's berry farm in Whakatane, I reckon you'll love it there and the ice cream is so "yummy" and the other food 'sooo refreshing' and I can't wait for the watermelon 🍉 "yum. I brought me Alstroemeria 'Inca Goal' yesterday, they're a beautiful flower, look absolutely gorgeous in my hanging pots, yours in the vase look like mine, either way they're beautiful 😍 have a wonderful day Carrie
driving on the other side of the road and driving by urself is one of those things that ur fearful of then u do it like twice n all of a sudden it's ur new norm n u think what was the fuss about lol
A lamb needs friends of there own kind.. What area did you purchase in.?? When your showing things like your Chickpeas for instance why don't you mention the price difference of what you paid for them at your last country compared with N.Z.. Would be a help for all your overseas followers..
Your videos are always such a vibe ❤️🙏🏼

Woo for saving the wood floors!!! So glad you're doing rugs instead. Looking forward to seeing more reno content :)
The pink flowers are alstroemeria!

You and Alex got me motivated this year to plant my vege beds (I didn't last year) and now I love going down daily to check how they are doing😀
Those pink flowers are Alstroemeria aurea (Peruvian lily). I have them growing here in Auckland and they can become very thuggish if not carefully controlled.

Love that shot of Woolsen with the ducks next to the Chicken coop - just adorable. This was after Alex had to fix the fences.

Yes! I was going to suggest rugs for the bedrooms! Much better idea!!
Props to Alex and to you Carrie for embracing it. I think yall are doing such a great job! Such an inspiration!! 🙌🏽

Love the pond and the reeds and lilies, so beautiful
Love the flowers! Actually we have friends in Katikati and have been to NZ beautiful!
Learning something new in another country helps to build ones confidence and challenges ourselves to overcome whatever hurdles that lay ahead.👍
I just love your videos. So calming, peaceful, & inspirational 💕

So great to see your personal progress…..
So excited to see another video loved it ...Woolson and duckies are adorable

Like most of your content lately, this was so soothing. Wondering if you have plans to create new episodes on your podcast?
I do! It’s looking like it’ll happen in the new year!
@@CarrieRad Oh awesome! Looking forward to it 😊
Phew for a moment there i thought you were going to say the plumber told you you were going to have a baby;)
i completely agree with your point of moving to the country making you feel more confident & capable. like YES i will lift that 50 lb feed bag! YES i will use a chainsaw! it's such a relief to just depend on yourself :')

Those flowers are GORGEOUS! The light pink ones look like azaleas?

You would love “There’s no such thing as bad weather” book!
Loving your content it makes me so happy each and every upload ✨
Wondering what camera you have been using recently for your videos. I did click on the link for the DSLR but it didn’t work. Looking for a new camera & love the quality 🎥🙏🏽
Always so relaxing to watch your wholesome videos!
Also, I think the flowers are some kind of Lily. From the pattern it looks like a Inca Lily :)
Even moving from metric Canada, it’s a change to see things like appliances and furniture measured in mm instead of m or cm. It seems silly here and I’m constantly converting to a more sensible unit ;)
Just a tip, hardwood floors are very tricky to sand and polish if you've never done it before you may be disappointed
Lovely video. You are a great couple x
Alstromerias. I have learned that if you change your water and take care of them, they will last a long time. Someone probably already stated that. I am behind on my videos and catching up this week as our household has Covid.

Great video Carrie. :-)
All good, but has woolsten been tailed yet ?
They are alstroemerias - the flowers in the bouquet ;)

Self Reliance
30 fruit trees is soo much product to manage 😳 What are you going to do with it all?!
Trade with neighbors for things you need. Can it. Sell it. Donate to shelters. Feed animals. Compost it.
I would definitely time my trips home to avoid winter lol
Already thought about that haha
Isn't spring great. Only advice I have re fruit is find a way to protect them from birds, but enjoy it nothing beats home grown
Gorgeous!
Those florals are alstroemerias.
driving on the other side of the road and driving by urself is one of those things that ur fearful of then u do it like twice n all of a sudden it's ur new norm n u think what was the fuss about lol
