I guess that's one way to look at it. I would also argue anyone who'd leave their pet in a burning home should not own one. Getting all living beings to safety should be the number one priority in that situation. Many people do (and should) consider pets as part of the family.
I had a house fire and that was devastating and traumatizing, but I can't imagine seeing your whole neighborhood ablaze. Hope these people can recover from all this :(
I live in East Tennessee and we got flooding from hurricane and the rain ..There was a hospital here underwater with patients and staff on top of the roof waiting to get rescued..Had a plastic factory not to far from it washed a bunch of employees down the river and they drowned..It was horrible..Never know when natural disaster will hit ..Nothing like that has ever happened like that here in history..

The city’s water had also been cut back from the northern areas and redirected into the sea. Satellite imagery also shows the fires all starting the exact same time from multiple separate locations. Literally *nothing* “wild” about these fires.
Santa Ana wind driven fires happen in So-Cal every year, every single year.. If you live in the path of those winds then you roll the dice every year that you might loose everything. That is one of the main reasons that I moved out of C.A. after 22 yrs. Never again....

Why do we build wood houses if we used bricks/stone/tin roofs the fire would only burn grass/trees we need to use our brains when building
brick houses don't do well in earthquakes. Earthquakes are common on the pacific coast.
Here in Australia the building codes depend on the Bushfire Attack Level, which gets stricter the more vulnerable your house is to bushfire.
