Wow, this is the most beautiful and accurate thing I've read about him. Thanks for sharing it! I liked his music when I was a child, but after seeing him live this year, he became one of my most faves ever.
Believe it or not, when this song came out in the seventies, I was a teenager living on a farm in the south of Germany. My knowledge of the English language was good enough to understand the lyrics. After the suicide of my father my mother was overprotective and tried to impose her ideas on me about faith and any other aspect of life. At the time I was not able to distance myself from her - and this song clearly expressed my feelings. It kept me going to free myself from the fetters and chains. It has really changed my life.

Such a great song. Billy Joel can play piano so well, like Sir. Elton... I love both...Billy has quite an aggressive/energic way of playing, which makes him one of a kind. I'm raised on hip hop. I HATED when my dad would put his music on, BUT, when he put on billy Joel, I would instantly be in a better mood today. Even today, I go from "hardcore" rap, trap, to billy Joel. Easily one of the greats, from the voice to the message that I e understood even as a child. I hope he lives the longest life because even though I've heard nothing new, if his e ergy is half as beautiful as his music the world would be missing a beautiful soul

This legendary track sounds the best played loud when going 80 on the highway. Love it.
We have the best songs to listen to whilst driving on the autoban ,yet we have no autoban 😟 vroom verrooom
Such a great song. Billy Joel can play piano so well, like Sir. Elton... I love both...Billy has quite an aggressive/energic way of playing, which makes him one of a kind. This music is so strong in so many ways. Listen the riff...such great notes on that piano. I love Billy and his songs...he just give that extra touch to my life!
no he isn't, not that it should matter ignorant dipshit.
There's actually a video of Billy and Elton performing this song together, with both men at different pianos.

@@itsjemmabond I have an elton john greatest hits album, I think its from 2002/2003. The special edition had a concert on dvd from Maddison Square Garden, and yes Billy and Elton sing together.

It should be noted that Peter Cetera and Donnie Dacus of Chicago are the backing vocals on My Life by Billy Joel.
This song has long been a Billy Joel favorite of mine. Gritty and packed with attitude. Billy is one of the most badass musicians of all time.
Joker: Folie a Deux
I HOPE GOD LET'S ME LIVE TO ATTEND A CONCERT OF THIS GENTLEMAN AT THE GARDEN SOON...!!!
I think Billy Joel is a fantastic musician. I had the pleasure of seeing him in London last year and he was brilliant. This song is my go-to cheer up song!!
wikid1992 Awesome!

Hey old timer talk to me share some more wisdom.
This song had somehow eluded me for most of my life, radio always play the same hits like Uptown girl, Tell her about it etc. Then I heard this a few years ago and vaguely recognised it…now it’s not only my favourite Billy Joel song but just one of my favourite songs period.
Having Billy Joel in "My Life" has been a gift.
My friend Jackie, rest her soul, gave this song to me on a mixed tape in 1999. I was 19 and I fell in love with it. Rock on sister wherever you are. 🤟🏾💕🎸
Respect ✊ bro
Born in 1961. I've gone to many concerts in my life, Including Billy Joel. Not until recently did I actually listen to the words.
better late than never
I'm the baby in my family and was brought up with songs like this. I saw Gladys and the Pips at Newcastle City Hall about 40 years ago. One of my favourite concerts of all time ❤️
Got a call from an old friend we'd used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American way
Closed the shop, sold the house, bought a ticket to the west coast
Now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A.
I don't need you to worry for me 'cause I'm alright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone
I never said you had to offer me a second chance
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
I still belong
Don't get me wrong
And you can speak your mind
But not on my time
They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place
Then they'll tell you can't sleep with somebody else
Ah but sooner or later you sleep in your own space
Either way it's O.K. you wake up with yourself
But not on my time
I don't care what you say anymore this is my life
Go ahead with your own life leave me alone

A mis 15 años mi padre me enseñó que no hay mejor música que está! Ahora mi hijo escuchara estas joyas
Man I love billy joel it's like he is singing the songs from my soul
Billy's songs always have some meaning in them it's like he is telling short stories
One of the most memorable melodies I’ve ever heard.
I love when he sings "Go along with your own life. Leave me alone. Exactly how I feel. Two divorces and I'm now a widow at 59 years old. I'm totally cool being alone. This is my life. I've gave and gave and gave to so many. And received very little. I'm done. I'm going to look out for myself. God bless you always.
Nobody asked for a life story
Nobody did and it was very brief what I did say about my life. Who are you anyway. The comment editor? Go ahead with your own life. Leave me alone.
Nobody cares
This is your life, and no one else's!
Thank you Billy Joel ....
