If you haven’t seen it, please take a look at the full long version of the Rhythm Nation 1814 video. It’s like a mini movie complete with storyline and features a young up and coming actor who went on to star in the movie Menace II Society. It also has the full version of the Miss You Much as well as The Knowledge.
It’s funny to hear you describe her as an elder when she was only 23 when this album was released. I think she was certainly wise beyond her years and that allowed her to last so long in the industry.
If you like the Janet Jackson Podcast, check out James Cameron's Musicology. He breaks down albums, track by track, sometimes stem by stem, and analyzes the music, the time period when the album was released and the artist's career. He did Rhythm Nation, janet., and The Velvet Rope.
Love the reaction. Yes, Janet always has a sexy, slow track like that. At least one per album-it’s one of her trademarks. “Lonely” is a fan favorite, but I was never particularly crazy about it, so I understand. It’s low-key by design, to match the melancholy it’s conveying. If you’re in that zone, it makes a lot more sense.
This album break the record of her brother Michael (who ''Thriller'' produced seven top 10 singles) with this album, who ''Rhythm Nation 1814'' produced seven top 5 sigles in the Billboard Hot 100. with four of them in n.1 (''Miss you Much'', ''Escapade'', ''Black cat'' and ''Love Will Never do (Without You)''). ''Rhythm Nation'' and ''Come Back to Me'' reaching n.2 and ''Alright'' reaching n.4. For me, one of my favorites albums of all time, no skip and this album was excellent to debut of end and love this aggressive sound of this album. Favorites songs of this was ''Come Back to Me'' and ''The Knowledge''.
I absolutely love your reaction to this album! I may not agree with everything you said BUT that's the beauty of it. My most favorite is "State of the World" but love all of them. I heard what you said about "Alright" and I just wanted to mention that if you watch the video and research it... you may feel different... jmo. Have a great day!
beautiful man RN1814 is a spectacular album. Someday is Tonight is like part 2 from Funny How Time Flies, LOL'd Check out Black Cat MTV performance its amazing... & video for Come Back to Me is beautiful, I agree Lonely was not great
@@TreMcLeod_ so cool reliving janet's discography through your lens, I subbed absolutely. I kinda, but not really forgot about Living in a World (They Didn't Make)... I teared up hearing it, cause not alot has changed since 30yrs ago with school shootings...dark but powerful song. BTW, there's a bonus track at the end of the CD... If you let it play, it comes alive again, with Whoops Now song, whimsical and happy Hello from Canada 🇨🇦
just to let you know. janet was in her early to mid 20s when she recorded this. she wasn't an "elder" her whole life. that was kinda strange comment from you. also, janet is a visual artist. watch her short film for rhythm nation and you will see why she solidified herself as an icon on this record.
How was the comment strange? It was very much true. Despite how young she was, Janet displayed a lot of wisdom when making this project because she was still addressing the generation that was younger than her, kids and teenagers. She still was an adult with good advice to give.
It still is the best selling debut tour in history. It also still holds the record for the most top 5 singles from a single album. :)
I didn’t know that! It’s what she deserves 😍
Exactly. 7 top #5 singles, 4 of which went #1

The only artist to have number 1 hits in pop, Rock and r&b

FUN FACT: the numbers 1814 also stands for the letters RN.
R is the 18th letter and N is the 14th letter of the alphabet.
I read about that. Apparently Janet has said that was a coincidence, but how cool!!
I can’t believe you didn’t like lonely that Is one of my favorite tracks on this album.
Maybe I just need more time with it 😂
@@TreMcLeod_ I think you definitely need to revisit lonely and really get into the words.
The track its self is such a vibe and it's a beautiful song to listen to after a long day at work
