- I looked at the infamous Zodiac Killer’s handwriting this week and there’s a lot happening here. There’s a lot of good examples of red flag traits, and there’s also a lot of traps that are easy to fall into when looking at his writing so I shared that too as well as how I used research to help my analysis without inflicting more bias.

Hey Leah, your videos are indeed quite insightful, however, it would add great value to your videos if you could talk about specific letter strokes besides the elementary analysis of size, margins, slants and so on. Really dissapointed that I didn't find this channel before I left my last job. I got to see the handwriting of hundreds of murderers and it would have been SO interesting to study it
One of the things that has always baffled me about his handwriting are those lowercase d's. For some reason, in some letters he writes it with a looped vertical extension, as if it were his cursive handwriting. In other letters he writes it with a straight vertical extension. I have to wonder if he did this in an attempt to try and disguise or alter his handwriting in some way. Great video.
yeah! I feel like yeah you're right its definitely him attempting to write neater/printed in order to make his writing harder to analyze. He'd do stuff like that with his cyphers as well to make code breakers' lives harder, so I think he's trying to do the same for the handwriting analysts. good thoughtss
I do the same thing with the same forward slant it’s literally just because I was raised with cursive but it’s been phased out and is no quite informal so I accidentally throw one in every once in a while (keep in mind cursive wasn’t fazed out at the time I’m not saying that’s why he did it)
i got the chills watching your videos about graphology and it made me realize that this field is so important to true crime because sometimes writing is the only evidence you have to convict somebody and graphology kinda reminds me a little bit about linguistics in writing and how an FBI guy caught the Unabomber that way from his writing. Again love your vids and can't wait to see more!
Actually, the Unabomber's brother recognized the CONTENT of the manifesto, which had been printed. He didn't want to turn in his brother, but his wife 'persuaded' him to.

You’d have a blast trying to analyze my handwriting. It is so utterly horrible I can’t even understand what I’ve written when I come back to it. What does that mean? I’ve had people tell me that my handwriting is the worst they’ve ever seen. One person told me to take off my shoes and put a pencil in between my toes. Said I’d probably write more legible like that.

Always interesting! When younger I wanted to be a forensic document examiner. I was into graphology and linguistics as well as crypto/cyphering. At 56 now, not going to pursue any degrees in it though lol.
I would love for you to compare the older writting to the newer letters it would eliminate so many of the main suspects if it could be proven that any of the Zodiac's writtings after the 90's are legit.
I just looked up one of these "older letters" it was a Christmas card from 1990 from someone suspected to be the zodiac sent to The San Francisco Chronicle, and just looking at the writing of the address, it doesn't match. but I'd love to look at more of these older samples!! I might consider doing a pt 2 to this vid since I wanted to talk about him writing ambidextrously more anyway but I ran out of time lol

Lawrence Klein(born April 29, 1924) aka: (Kaye, Kay, Barton, King, Klieman, Kane, Cane)lived at 217 Eddy St in S.F. in 1969. He had lived in Oakland 1964-1969. That S.F. address is near the Curran Theater where Zodiac hailed a taxi driven by Paul Stine. Lawrence changed his last name in 1941 to Kaye.
I didn't look too deep into addresses and locations, I'm really just here for the handwriting so I wouldn't know. *Plot twist, I'm not a real detective* but these are all very good questions!

Omg, I totally agree with you, even though I've only seen a few minutes so far. But I too, believe he's ambidextrous, and noticed that the M.O. doesn't align and it looked like, to me, several murders were done in the name of "Zodiac killer", or shall I say, "killerS".
It seemed to me either the kills were mainly all separate and used "Zodiac" as a cover, to throw the cops off, they used the details from the news to recreate similarities, but do different things...
The first two, I believe were by the same person. But the third was definitely a cover up and a drastic change in both physical description and murder style. Between Bryan Hartnell, Cecelia Shepard, and Michael Mageu's description of the assailant is different. Since both victims were not sure about the exact height, the description of the hair is different.
Magaeu testified the man had light colored hair, almost blonde. Hartnell and Cecelia testified they saw a man with dark hair (in another spree at the beach a few months later).
I didn't know they had suspects, but I assumed the man would have some mechanics skills, ambidextrous, also, dyslexic, and may be the cause for mispelling at some points. The handwriting from the first two murders definitely doesn't match the one on the car... also, there was a copy cat killer.
Bryan even described the killer as "shaky" when tying up Cecelia and Bryan, as if he was nervous. I believe the matching shoes and other details in attempt to copycat the murderer, are obvious from the news media at the time.
I believe that Hartnell and Shepard's tragic event was the caused by the same one who killed another couple on a beach, and dragged them into a shack.
When I look at these cases, they're very different. Including the boasting, and the letters. I believe multiple people were trying to get away with murder by scapegoating an actual one with their own...
Who knows, the killer COULD have changed their M.O., but most likely, the accounts are both very different. One description is older and is very quiet. The other is chatty and attempted to steal from him (and probably forgot they couldn't steal in order to make it look legit). So, that could explain why the killer acted like they were going to take his wallet but decided not to.
In addition, I had grouped some stabbings as being by the same killer, while some shootings were by a different one. On top of that, other killings were included to be the Zodiac killings, but, I honestly think it was just an "Umbrella" for the others' murderers to hide under for the time being, to evade the police.
But yes, I hope you guys crack it someday. I initially thought the Zodiac killer was someone who worked at a gas station as a mechanic (given his knowledge of car batteries), but I think it was just the knife victims.
I also wouldn't rule out if the military had a lot of soldiers who was maybe discharged for mental health issues, and what an informant said about Gary Poste could be true - about him trying to gather followers to murder people. Maybe that's why they call them, the Zodiac? I also noticed the killer would make threats they'd never follow up on...
Allen was found with many clues that connected him to be the murderer, like having items to make a bomb, for example, that mirrored the initial threats. And as the news of the murders came out, I guess other murderers "built" on that. That's the only thing I can think of that could help explain drastic handwriting discrepencies. And I'm sure the typewriter he had, was probably, a common one, but if not, then, even more of a reason I believe he's at least one of the murderers. Anyway, I do believe cops tried to consolidate a series of murders that happened to point to the same person, but drastically different killing styles, handwriting, and more. They probably had all of the right men, but tied them to the wrong or all of the other victims.. perhaps.
Allen allegedly had a liking for boys and girls. But no violation of rape or robbery occurred at the first two couple murders/attempt. It was just a killing spree, of various killers at the time (in which cops have found several roamed CA around the same timeframes - this is where my main concern is...). From all of these back to back people trying to gain followers to go on killing sprees from 1960s to 1980s (until when DNA technology finally came out, did it finally start to discourage murder), I do believe there was an epidemic of murders but something or someone was making them. The influences of the killings throughout the years, perhaps encouraged more people to try to get away with crime. I believe that the letters may have stopped when Allen was arrested, in order to deter the police from removing him as a suspect, for, when he got out, they would just use him again as a scapegoat. Either that, or he really did kill everyone. I just pray he really was telling the truth, but, we'll never know I guess since they all passed... for all we know, the killer may have been stalking Arthur to frame him for these murders with the items he owns? Has anyone thought about that too?
I did... it could be possible that someone tried to forge his handwriting but did so horribly. I pray that God Almighty who knows, will bring all truth to light someday and give the loved ones of the victims, peace.

Thanks for the video. In your opinion, did the Zodiac use any additional tools to compose the cipher symbols (since they seem so neat + aligned compared to his handwriting)? Or, as in the Belli letter, could he have drawn them so neatly on his own? I am thinking he might have used a drafting table to compose the ciphers, meaning perhaps he was an engineer.
I really gotta just click on ur vid lists and see what you got. Too often I'll go to suggest then soon thereafter see it's done already.
Great video as per usual. I haven't studied much into split personalities but am fully aware they have diff tastes, likes and dislikes to the host. And so prob diff writing too.
I was pondering on this when you said you thought others were writing it, thought to myself maybe he's got alter(s) as most really smart ppl prefer seclusion.
But you stated it's got similar traits. So is this ambidexterity?
I was also going to say that I believe they also practiced other handwriting styles, which also explains the inconsistency in the flow of writing. Then, at some point (which, I believe you are right about their emotions driving the pen), the letters are also written differently, as they re-maintain composure of their writing, once they calm down. Like, I had read Allen's letter from when he was in the hospital, and I could tell when he was emotional because of the writing slant, in addition to the dots of the "i", which is sometimes in alignment but then, drastically off again. This tells me there are times when thoughts flow out (including on some of the Zodiac letters, when emotions are involved), but then, the "i" may be dotted in alignment and you can tell the person is calm again or slowed down writing to think more about their words...
As far as the "spacing", while I do agree that this may help to narrow down the author, I don't think it matters as much as comprehending the rhythm of his handwriting.
We both know handwriting can act as a lie detector or a print out of someone's emotional ekg, simply by their handwriting. We can tell his heartrate increases because of the speed and the increase in "slants" and errors, and when the slants stop and tend to pull back in the letter. Obviously this person has thoughts going through their mind quickly, and in spurts (fast then all of a sudden, slow). So, I do believe this shows he has signs of learning disabilities, as he also mispelled some words, in which Allen was also known to do (according to his sister).
So, the author may be literacy-wise intelligent (average), but cannot maintain stability in their mental focus. The first letters shows the author to have mental barriers, so I believe they may be highly intelligent but with learning disabilities. I can also tell they maybe tried to change their handwriting as some letters are written inconsistently throughout, but that's happens when thoughts begin to flow, and one's concentration and memory slips from remembering to write letters a certain way throughout the points in the first writings.
I disagree that the two the letters presented in the video are from the same person. I believe that they are also a copycat. Inconsistency that causes drastic or slight change in letter writing throughout the flow of the written text can be caused by stress/anxiety, history with having different handwritings - maybe due to improvement or attempting to forge different writing which causes confusion, or due to different authors. But who knows, you could be onto something...
I believe the drastic M.O. changes proves that some killings were by different killers. That's probably why the writings are different. I think the killers believe they'll never get caught and no one will ever figure it out...

At 5:34, the 'm's and the 'w's are a dead give away in the letters. Even the 'w' in 'will', he got so ahead of himself that he made that w slant by mistake similar to the 'w's on right.

What's your opinion about uneven pressure? You said that baseline is too natural to be intentional but is it possible that uneven pressure was intentional? After all, it is well accepted that Zodiac deliberately misspelled words in his letters.

so I did some work with the police station that currently ruled that case and the biggest clue I gave them (from their perspective) being a psych major was that I wholeheartedly agree that the zodiac killer had a form of DID and that it wasn't other people writing, but rather other alters with different writing styles.
Damn if only I had more forward slant I'd be a serial killer!

I hadn't seen that poem before, so I just looked up the riverside desktop poem, and in my opinion nope def no, not Zodiac. I could always be wrong, there's always a chance, but I'm like 90% certain thats a totally different person.

You were right on some things: this is my take
Zodiac lives in SF or Bay Area
He lived in Richmond district
He has a rap sheet (criminal)
He doesn’t have sex and girls find him weird and stay away hence he has to kill couples
He is mentally ill and knows it other don’t though that’s important
He has no children
He steals cars guns etc and commits his crimes with stolen cars and or guns or buys them gets ride of them
He was in the military
Also he was station in southern CA and used his boots at the crime at the Lake B up north.
He loves hunting he sees humans as the ultimate sport to go after hence he never shows his emotions until he explode from PTSD from childhood trauma or military combat. He is white in his 30s 175 changes his appearance with his sourroundings. The last person you would suspect but if he was caught you would of course he was.
He left his fingerprint at the Stein crime seen SF deceived failed to enter in codis and or DNa left at the seen swab entry to national database Zodiac family is crazy enough middle class the descendants would have used online platform to do a 21 and me profile
The Zodiac didn’t die he simply got bored and stopped only less than 10 percent of killers can do that because of some life trauma event maybe medication fixed him up and he simply living his life in the SF Bay Area
We know his shoe is a wingman shoe military grade he used a fake overhead fake shoe imprint to throw off the police.
He moves around a lot. Like 3 times in 15 years but stays close to home. Prefers to use his tactics from books he reads and practices like he did war games in the military. Child mind
If he could he wouldn’t want to kill again but finds his head full of shame and reward as he is mentally ill and unstable to have a internal conflict why I think so he never killed the children on the bus like Scarface the movie Tony never killed the kid because he had a soft spot for innocent maybe zodiac was neglected never had anyone to love him and hence went on a rampage for hatred had his heart. Same thing zodiac is just a. Child caught in hate filled rage 😡 that hates the world from the PTSD and is it’s outlet and he views himself with hate too but covers it’s with narrcaism and self admiration like he does when he writes the letters that’s the way to express he is lonely needs that attention and how gross 🤢 that attention was.
Worth noting he never wanted to kill men when he killed the couples he was after the females he has rage against them for some weird reason above explains it the guy was the thing in his way hence had to get ride of the male to create himself whole how sick it sounds yes that’s what killers think they have a on and off switch that needs to be turned on. He never turned it off until after 78
There is three markers of zodiac one fingerprint
Two shoe marker the police never put it though forensics to see what and how many different markers and see out of the million given out army station in two places gave them out in CA at that time in 63 zodiacs first murder in Santana Barbara than riverside.
Third paper and location of the postcards if he actually worked at one time at a bookstore possibly would be a one in the Richmond district or a frequent customer but Z would be smart and buy from many different places. Fourth his apprence changed as he was professional in changing his appeance possibly loves to put on customs like a child.
Bless the victims of these crimes and the families hope one day Zodiac is found once and for all
You should not bother trying to identify someone who has DID from handwriting, you will never get a match. Theres a minimum of 4 alter egos. That was Toms demand, test handwriting, yeah thats why they let him go the 2nd time they had him. 3rd time they did not. "Changes in handwriting - The person suffering from DID may often find notes or lists written by them but in a different handwriting (presumably when another personality is in control). Hearing voices - The individual may hear voices in their head that are not their own." Its possible he may not even know all details, like he said Cheri was wearing a red dress and she wasnt.

I noticed that my handwriting looks way crazier than that, for some odd reason, when I look at my handwriting, I notice that it is extremely spiked, my y’s and g’s Lowe zones have this thing where it almost goes to the right and then jolts to the left underlining the word, my I’ look like a 3 with lines on the bottom and the top, and my t bars are stringy and sometimes shoots a quarter of the page in. Is that worrying?
Have you noticed that the Thing is written quite as usual the b-movies titles? Just it goes down on the right instead up. "Is it human ora inhuman, earthly or unearthly? Buffling questions, astounding that not even the greatest scientific minds can answer." The Thing trailer. The references to movie are numerous in his letters. Deep marked "thing" in bold. Besides, he was making a mistake writing "F" instead of "T", fixed whilst he was writing. This could be a relevant clue. Anglo-Saxons struggle with the correct spelling. I attended an English course in London and I know. Anyway, Italians and Latins in general, struggle to pronounce "Th" as "F". They say "tee". Is this the case? I think as well as you, that the killer is ambidextrous. The left hand is connected to the right frontal lobe - you know... emotion, creativity. While the right hand is connected to the left part of the brain - rationality and so on. I think when he wrote neatly and calmly without haste he was using the right hand. When he was using the left hand he was pessimistic, excited, impetous, under the pressure of his fantasies. We are talking about a split personality. How could he hide himself? That's really buffling question. How many disturbed people roamed free in San Francisco in those days?

Hello I am a zodiac killer sleuth who's been researching this case for 9 years, I look at the psychology of him a lot and here's what I think you got right and what you got wrong from your analysis. I'm not saying this was a poor job this is just my opinion, and my perspective on things.
1. Define "mentally Ill", I agree that Z was not right in his mindset I don't think it was mental illness though. It is my belief that we instinctively go for mental illness when something doesn't seem quite right, when in actuality its just his situation at that time that gives the impression of a illness of some kind. I believe Z was a underdog who was a wannabe top dog type personality who was sheltered as a child, making him cower when it came to making big decisions in his life, and what really made him the zodiac was that he knew his problem, that he was a coward and it built up to a point where he became the zodiac.
2. Now I do like how you point out his emotions, this is something I've been painting out that everyone I know has been glossing over. He has the mindset of a insecure person who is lost but people will say he's a "master Criminal" because he wasn't caught. Which is bad because that makes us think of him as a superhuman when he's just a human affected by the same problems we all are. Which is also why up put him younger that most estimates I place him from 20-30. I simply cannot see this behavior in people who are in there late 30s and early 40s, have the same impulsivity and self esteem issues he has.
My classmate has the exact same handwriting like EXACTLY the r the t the d EVERYTHING......am I supposed to be concerned?
