It’s the company computer and he has no rights of privacy. Glad he was not taken out, just fired…no negative energy needed for stupidity. This is my answer and can I adopt your brother, pretty please🤓. Peace🤙🏽
Things I have learned from this video: 1) that employee not only does not understand what company property is, but he couldn't read a room enough to know he was in mortal danger and also doesn't know how to resolve conflicts like an adult, so yeah, he needed to be fired, for so many reasons; 2) your brother is badass; and 3) Taylor deserves a raise.
Taylor. Taylor. Taylor gets a raise. Employee of the Month, that special brownie button reserved under Gold Star Status and Whatever else other bonus points or goodies y'all can think of.
We most definitely need more people like yourself, your brother, and Taylor. And Taylor 100% saved old boys life. I spent spent several years in the military....there's ZERO expectations of privacy.
Here in Finland there are laws protecting employee privacy on workcomputers even after they leave a company. How crazy is that? Company needs to get a court order to look into a employee computer and even then there has to be substansial proof that there is business critical information on there or it has been used in a serious violation.
Strange behaviour. I reckon he was hiding something. Did you look for a virtual drive? Either that or he was just unstable and couldn't handle the job.
1. That story is hilarious 2. Your brother is simultaneously the most terrifying man I can think of if he can walk that quietly in logging boots, and the coolest dude ever 3. I love Taylor's response of "in this instance I took it"😂
There is 100% no expectation of privacy and that has been made clear at the start of every job I have ever had. I love the crazy stories and would love to hear more. From bail bonds to Karen septic customers to cleaning out the dirty inside of the trucks, I have enjoyed you videos. Thank you.
Funny stuff about computers, tablets and cell phones with nanny software. We had a few guys at work who were questioned about being on the internet all day so one of the middle managers looked at production and noticed these guys got more done in a day than most. Turns out they were taking advantage of the unlimited data plan to stream music while they worked... and it helped them in their task! BTW, the boss wanted to know why they didn't just use a radio. The simple answer was the lack of stations (in our area) that played Mexican music.
One of my previous employers confronted me about being logged onto a pc my entire shift. I was confused for a moment because I was thinking "You can tell by how clean my area is that I am not on the computer all shift" and then remembered that I came in and logged onto the computer and then logged onto an online game I was playing and put my character into training while I worked. They did not like that I was doing that.
@@johnhouchins3156 Putting a character into training does not, assuming it means what I think it means. There are totally ways to AFK certain games in order to raise stats without having to be present (such as while doing work).
@@simonehudspeth861 ... I could come up with dozens of exceptions to company rules, but I chose a positive spin for my story. BTW, nobody at out shop was wearing ear buds... and most work solo out on the road.
Bye Felicia! Being a dispatcher and treating the owner of the company in this manner, one can only imagine how he treated the people that he was in control of while dispatching! The depths of stupidity are mind-boggling these days! Thank you for the great content and keep up the good work! Prayers and blessings
No workie workie! I gotta use that. BTW, I agree with your brother. Animals are great. People are vile. As to the question, there is NO expectation of privacy on a work computer.
@@foxw875 I have one, too. And I run a dog sanctuary. I currently have a baby ‘possum in my kitchen waiting to go to a wildlife rehabber. I relocated a snake out of my barn last night so the dogs wouldn’t hurt it. Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and the carpenter bees chewing up my barn are the only creatures that come to harm around here.
Your brother might not like people, but he sure as hell loves his brother! And quite protective of you! Taylor sounds like the guy who is secretly a sage beyond his years, for his wisdom saved that Ex-Employee from getting heavily injured from his stupidity And don't let anyone fool you, your stories are quite amazing! Your videos make me laugh and brighten my day!
I've spent my entire career in IT and have helped write/review many policies and procedures for several companies. James you are 100% correct in this, there is absolutely no expectation of privacy when using any company resource (notebook, phone or computer). I've been involved in many IT forensic investigations and I have seen many people lose their jobs due to the content on the company device that they used.
I see your points, and agree that the pc is 100% company property with no expectation of privacy, but an HR perspective may disagree. When employees leave corporate jobs, special access has to be requested from HR to access the email
I'm not sure under what legal framework you work but i can guarantee that at the very least this wouldnt fly in the nordics. There is a whole lot of things on work devices that still are privileged and neither the property nor under the perview of the company that owns the machine. Whether the companies respect the law is a separate thing but communications to your union representatives or similar institutions are thoroughly protected.
Why anyone has any expectation of privacy on any computer seems unreasonable to me, much less someone else’s computer Maybe we should all just start trying to be excellent to each other
I worked at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service. I had absolutely no expectation of privacy on the computer I used. Moreover, there is a unit which regularly scans the computers for non-workrelated content. Taylor used his initiative, saw a need and filled it. Bravo. Thank you for your intelligent and entertaining programming. I bought one of your shirts.
I work in the IT industry. Anything put on an company owned device is subject to audits. In some cases, if you sign into a personal account, Gmail for example, on those devices, the company can audit those as well. You still might want do a deep dive for any hidden internet browsing just incase, as well as completely wipe the laptop. And your brother sounds amazing!
I retired after40 odd (some of them were VERY odd) years in the computer industry My advice is that nothing on any device is private. Hell,my mother warned me long ago to never put anything on paper I didn't want published. My experience is that goes double for electronic media.
@@katecollins5937It always amazes me how on True Crime channels so many of the criminals keep a journal or diary. Like, are you a 12 year old girl, or what?
@@wmluna381 I hate this phrase, because it's total BS 99.9% of the time....but I've never seen anything that so keenly describes toxic masculinity. Look, I don't keep a diary/journal, but it is a highly respected and scientifically proven method of dealing with mental health issues. Grow up, do better.
Heads up to any IT guys or business owners: Accessing an employee's personal online accounts (Gmail, Facebook, etc) is most likely illegal - even if it's on a company computer. You can, generally, monitor the company computer usage and check any files on the hard drive, but accessing any sites that the employee has left logged in crosses the line. A good analogy would be taking the employee's car keys and searching their car without their knowledge or consent.
Your brother seems to be a person who i would truly respect, appreciate and avoid. I would love to hear more stories about the two of you working together.
For 20+ years my job was on notebook computers. On the road 25% of the time, it was my life blood. But I never considered it my personal space. It was my tool, but it was company property.
Family is a great thing when they have your back like that. Work equipment is for work unless you ask permission otherwise. And yes more stories please. You are a real hard ass and direct entertainer and I enjoy that. More on site videos would be great too. Sounds like Taylor has your back even when you don't realize you need it covered and you need to keep him around.
Yep. You never realize how valuable that is until you find out you have the totally opposite type of family. The type that will do everything in their power to try and destroy you because you refuse to let them control you.
I would love to hear your bail stories. You are a wonderful storyteller! You guys dodged a bullet getting rid of someone who would have lost it eventually on something. In a way it’s good that it happened the way it did and it didn’t affect a customer or the company reputation. People like that are a cancer to the company culture. If he had nothing to hide then he was just a bomb waiting to go off.
I'm always up for some Butler Bro stories! 1st comment on your channel. Your viewpoints are so practical, yet still generous to the least deserving. Your ethics...*chef's kiss**..are amazingly refreshing in this era of passing the buck and profitting from someone elses loss. Thanks James!
No expectation of privacy at all. Work is work, period. Thank you for your content. There is so much business and life advice you present that I relate to or can learn from. Being a safety professional in the commercial roofing industry, I deal with situations similar to yours. Hearing how you handle your situations helps reinforce my approach and gives me things to think about that may come into play down the line. I would also like more stories about you and your brother, septic, bail bonds, whatever. No matter what the two of you get in to, I am sure the stories are interesting, insightful, and most of all, entertaining. Love your content and keep up the good work.
Mr. Butler, we appreciate your stories - especially because they often have a worthwhile point; however, even if there's no particular point you tell them in such an entertaining way. Yes please, more stories of any topic you like.
Would love to see your brother in a video :D But yeah! Would also love to hear more stories because you're very good at telling them! Oh.... and VERY proud of Taylor. He did more than expected of him and it was the exact right thing to do, and I love his rightful confidence at that moment! :)
Check for hidden apps or unknown websites with password verification. My friend owns a tech shop and has found some very vile and sickening stuff hidden in plain sight. No way that guy got that crazy over a pic of his dog.
Loved this story! Awesome brother!!!! Always great to have someone at your back. Odd take away, your brother and Taylor probably kept the bad employee out of jail. Sounds like he was one step away from actually assaulting you. Hopefully, he will see this as a learning opportunity and take some anger management classes.
Yes , there is no expectation of privacy in an office using the company computers. Taylor overstepped his authority but did what most bosses would have done. Your videos are fantastic.
No expectation of privacy on company computers, phones etc. Company always makes that clear! Yes, please more stories of you and your brother doing anything!
I absolutely love your stories, I would listen to you telling us how to make snowballs, so yes, stories of being bailbondsmen or anything else is a yes from me. I'm a 66 yr old woman who is always saying to her husband "listen to this one". Thank you. btw, personal information has no place on company property.
I enjoy all your stories & would love to hear more. Before I retired, I was HR at a small business. Our employee handbook stated that all equipment in the office including the cell phones was owned by the business. Each employee when hired had to sign a document acknowledging they had received the handbook.
1) I never expected privacy etc on work devices. Granted, most of the time, I provided my own or they were virtual machines, so you rarely got the same one twice and they got re imaged regularly. 2) I would definitely enjoy more stories about your brother and you.
"Oh. He's being an asshole. Huh." Awesome. And while Taylor was right about not shooting employees, at that point, the dispatcher was no longer an employee. ;) And absolutely yes to the bail bonds stories. I worked in IT for a while when I was younger and dumber, and more than occasionally had personal stuff on work machines. But I never thought of them as my machines. It was always very clear to me that they belonged to the company.
Technically he was still employed as no-one with the actual authority to fire him had at that point. One can assume that that employee has received his final paycheck, so has properly been dismissed from the company. Taylor probably saved his life nonetheless.
you might be able to make a second channel with just the stories of you and your brother .... either way , more stories please , you have a talent for telling them
I do like all the stories you tell, especially the ones I can share with my kids. You have a great way of expressing, and you use words that don't dumb down the story.
Edit: Yes, Taylor deserves a bonus/raise for that bit of assertion. 🤘 Our company training, and work culture in general, is: Everything you do should be handled as if the customer you are serving is right there with you. Texts on your company issued phone, emails, VERBAL CONVERSATION, et al. Everything should be done as if there is a customer making a video to post online. If you are completely transparent, then you have nothing to hide.
Personal stuff doesn't belong on work equipment at all. No personal numbers on work phones, no personal information on work computers. I won't even use my personal laptop or cellphone on a work network. I would love to hear stories of you and your brother! I come here because I like hearing about and from you and your circle. Keep up the great stuff James!
1. Awesome Job Taylor for firing him LOL 2. Your brother is great and right about the knife. 3. Have a professional look at that laptop, I bet there are hidden files. 4. Great story, you are a great storyteller, I always enjoy them. 5. If it is owned by the company you have no expectations of privacy. 6. Yes all the bail bondsman stories, please.
I love your stories. They are always a highlight in my day. Thanks! *Also, the fired guy is lucky he is still breathing.* *And, no. There should not be an expectation of privacy when on company property using company equipment. If people feel that way, then they should start their own companies and discover how life really works.
Dude talked himself out of a job, and almost out of life. 100% agree with the premise that there is no expectation of privacy when using someone else's (I.E. your company) computer or anything else. Sadly RUclips doesn't really care to take down such scammers, and I would love more stories about your brother, possibly even with him.
I agree with you - it is a business computer - I always had the rule - keep it to business. Had a manager that was fired - He had no clue they could do a search history and found porn sights and downloads. CANNOT FIX Stupid. And YES - more stories on adventures with your brother.
I definitely keep it strictly business. There is no expectation of privacy on work systems. This was handled well. I suspect the employee may have some emotional issues they're dealing with. Likely, if he had taken a breath it would have bee fine. Love your stories, keep them coming.
I would love to hear those stories with your brother. As an adult, I have no expectation of privacy when using work computers. It’s also made very clear during my orientation and I may even sign paperwork regarding it. But, I’m a nurse and work with patients and have privacy and HIPAA regulations to deal with, too.
My wife works for a major corporation, remote, on company equipment. The folks that work under her have no concept of how to respect the work equipment (laptops, thinclients, screens, etc)
James Butler your brother sounds awesome 😎 would love to hear more stories about you and your brother. I’m an older brother myself, I’d do anything for my younger brothers!
I have a laptop from work, and I expect to have no privacy on it, as it is strictly owned by the company. The most personal things I have are a few bash scripts (I'm a programmer) that I use to automate boring tasks lol Also, now you made me curious, can you do a video with your brother? He sounds like someone I can relate to 😂
I have my personal (owned by me) working computer(remote work), and I *still* have nothing personal on it :D Just because I can show it accidentally on remote viewer or drop to chat
Yea i got a few laptops from work that i use.. and an ipad. I erased the os and wiped the hdd then reloaded windows on the laptops and erased the ipad and use my chip in it so theyre mine now., i still do work on em but they just cant spy on me when they want to anymore.. when i give em back i’ll just wipe em again and demagnetize the hdd so they cant see what i had on em.. gotta be smarter than their security..
@@Z-Ack The steps you describe should not be necessary if you are working. All data on a company owned laptop belongs to the company. Wiping it is destroying information they may need. For example documentation for lawsuits etc.
I worked for a company that said if you plug in a USB drive, by virtue of the fact that you plugged it in, they now own everything on the drive. If you do not like this policy, then do not plug in the drive. As I work from home, I had a drive that I used to get scanned images that I used only for work. There was a similar policy for cell phones. It was easier to follow as it was a flip phone.
Your brother is an awesome man and I agree with his attitude when dealing with A-holes,and I can understand why. I myself have known people like your brother and in a couple of times I ended up having to back them up, because they would react and didn't care about the situation. Now I have been known to actually do things that could have gone sideways really quick, but it has always worked out in the end. Keep up the good work and always watch your six. 🇺🇸
I'm an IT guy. I've talked to my ITSec co-workers.... it's amazing what people do on work PCs according to them. You should absolutely not expect privacy... especially at a large organization with an IT department. Depending on how the network is set up they can possibly see EVERYTHING you do.
I always enjoy listening to your stories they are great. It would be great to hear more stories about you and your brother. To your question about company owned electronics anything done on them should be STRICTLY BUSINESS RELATED! Also about your brother there is a saying that I fallow that also applies to your brother and it is "Speak softly and carry a big stick".
Awesome story! Your brother reminds me a bit of my sister level best friend. Don't screw with anything those people care about. She's got a backhoe. And I've seen her bury things that when she's done, you'd never realized there was a 16 foot hole there less than a half hour before. So please more stories about the brother! As for work tools such as phone and computers. I tell all my new hires that especially with the computers, the company is fully aware of ANYTHING you do on their network. Now at what level that may or may not be true, I really don't care. You want to goof around, you do it on your own equipment on your time. Same with the company phones, they are for work. Oh and I'm sure they think they are smart. But guys, when that work phone's call history is erased, it kind of makes it obvious someone's been doing stuff they shouldn't. Thank you again for all the great tales and exploits. You help my day at work move along quicker and your commentary about being a boss has reaffirmed some of the ways I thought things should be run as well as help me see areas of improvement for myself as a supervisor, my coworkers/minions and the company I work for. I wish I could send your videos to the upper management and show them how they should treat and see their people. And it is so hard being the Supervisor that cares about their people between good honest, hard working employees and the company who doesn't give a damn.
Retired now, but worked in IT as a programmer analyst. Never believed my work computer was mine. Never had any expectation of privacy regarding its contents. Would not have been completely comfortable with anyone else firing it up, for fear of them screwing something up, but would not have thrown a fit over it. Luckily, having the mouse to the left of the keyboard was enough to deter most such activity.
As someone who works in the IT Dept of a large company. I see this all to often that when employees are given devices they treat them as hone devices using Netflix etc. Any company at any point in time can perform an full audit on any network device this includes uncleared browsing history data usage on telco network. It's well within company policies to do this. As it's a safety issue as well potential misuse of company resources
Works so easy only for countries like USA where employee and privacy protection is weak or non existent. In other countries (e.g. many in EU) not all data is automatically owned by the employer. Some countries require your employee approval to establish certain data policies.
Sounds like you all (except for the dispatcher) handled the situation correctly. Any time I see someone getting overly emotional about stuff that shouldn't be emotional...it's a red flag. Love your channel and content. It's not just about septic systems...it's more a real world look at life and the interaction between humans. Keep up the good work.
Yes, indeed your Brothers IS THAT GUY. The man spoke softly but his words where definitely felt heavier, he had your back even though he hadn't even let his presence known in the room..and just that him being there sent a message....and love it. You have an excellent brother.

Company property is company property. If you work on/with anything supplied by your employer, it is loaned to you and open for inspection by supervisors/IT/HR at any time. Taylor is awesome, and all he was doing was channeling exactly what you and likely your brother were thinking, but in a much nicer more polite tone & verbiage. And please, more stories, followed you from TikTok to here and love hearing your stories. Just wish you were in the DFW area, you're the kind of boss I think 99% of us wish we had.

If you have a company device you absolutely have no privacy, this is especially true if you go to high school and they give you a device, if you have something on there that shouldn’t be they will probably weaponize it against you, and don’t most companies and stuff make you sign some paperwork to say that you will only use the devices for work related purposes? at least that’s what I think. Would love to hear more stories with you and your brother! Love the videos keep up the hard work!🔥

I worked IT help desk for a number of years. There were a few times that people were worried about their "private" data that they chose to keep on their company devices. For some reason it's always executives that fall into this category in my experience.
Absolutely, positively there is NO expectation of privacy on any company owed device. You are absolutely correct on that notion and may need to be emphasized at the next all-hands meeting. Love your videos
I would highly suggest investing in a backup network. The whole “the internet has to be up or we cant function” will end up biting you in the ass one day when inevitably those two paths cross and you end up on a monday with no internet. My office has Verizon Fios internet, but we also have about 10 devices in office that can all act as individual hotspots pulling from Verizons Unlimited 5g network. This is not an ad for Verizon, their network doesnt work great everywhere, its just an example. Another example, you could have Spectrum internet in the office and then also have an At&t unlimited plan as your backup. While computers technically cannot connect to a cellphone network, they can connect to wifi being emitted from a hotspot connected to the cellphone network. If for whatever reason the Fios router stops working, the hotspots are there as a backup so we can remain functional. This should be standard anyways If you are sending guys out into the field with work devices. Youll need an unlimited plan for that anyway so you can just add hotspots to that plan to back up the office.
There are a lot of mesh network devices that not only increase coverage but give you hot spares so if one dies you still have a working network. It sounds like he has a pretty small network if it can be covered by a single access point but even my home network has three access points and I can notice much better reception over when I just had one. And if one goes bad at worse I just have to move one and everything is working again, no reconfiguring necessary.
@@roberteltze4850 thats still tied to a single provider though is it not? The method I mentioned would work even if one of the providers stopped working, like spectrum tends to stop working a lot for a few minutes in our area so the backup just goes to verizon which works 100% of the time for us

I used to work as a debug tech at a computer board manufacturer. One guy in my department was SHOCKED when he was fired for viewing porn at his workstation during his shift. Another was fired for: doing searches for new jobs, writing resumes, printing resumes, calling potential new employers and even doing a couple of online job interviews... from his workstation during his shift. - It is amazing how DUMB supposedly smart people can be.
I own my work computer and my backup drive but I don't think that makes either one exempt from being looked at by other people at work. And I would love more stories featuring you and your brother and bail bonds too.
If you live in America, your phones, tablets, and computers are protected under the 4th amendment. The company would have to go through legal channels to get a search warrant, and then it could be searched by court appointed officials for items listed on the warrant.
@@RicardoSantos-oz3uj :regarding if it is a non-company PC: likewise, he/she who is the keeper of the access, James in this case, can/should deny a non company PC access to the company network.
@@laggybum3218 IMO, listening to muusic is one thing, playing a game is entirely different. Playing a game takes you away from performing work.
@@johnhouchins3156 Putting a character into training does not, assuming it means what I think it means. There are totally ways to AFK certain games in order to raise stats without having to be present (such as while doing work).

I'm one of the people that has a doormat that says "animals welcome, people tolerated" 😂
Hey now, people are animals too 😄
@@foxw875 I have one, too.
@@aditsu The most vile kind.
Your brother might not like people, but he sure as hell loves his brother! And quite protective of you!
Taylor sounds like the guy who is secretly a sage beyond his years, for his wisdom saved that Ex-Employee from getting heavily injured from his stupidity
And don't let anyone fool you, your stories are quite amazing!
Yeah, as a global IT consultant, I can say that's the way in almost every country. Even BYOD has policies explicitly saying about privacy.
Why anyone has any expectation of privacy on any computer seems unreasonable to me, much less someone else’s computer
Maybe we should all just start trying to be excellent to each other
As the creator of the internet, that is true.
Ah, I did mention that I had retired after40 years in the IT industry. The longer I live, the less surprises me.
Taylor: You can't shoot employees.
Brother: You just fired him...he's no longer an employee.
Lol, good point
That's exactly what I thought he was going to say...it's what I would have said.
That’s the loophole he was looking for. ;-)
We absolutely need more bail bond stories from you and your brother. That sounds absolutely fantastic.
Hell yes, more stories!
Yes
100% agree more stories!!
You are an amazing storyteller. I am definitely a fan wanting more stories!❤
ditto!
You own the company, you own the tools and hardware.
Taylor and your Brother are both sound like awesome people; I would totally love to hear more stories about your brothers' ninja skills in action.
I'm always up for some Butler Bro stories!

Yes, please share about your bail bondsman stories
Check for hidden apps or unknown websites with password verification. My friend owns a tech shop and has found some very vile and sickening stuff hidden in plain sight. No way that guy got that crazy over a pic of his dog.
Loved this story!
Awesome brother!!!! Always great to have someone at your back.
Odd take away, your brother and Taylor probably kept the bad employee out of jail. Sounds like he was one step away from actually assaulting you.
Hopefully, he will see this as a learning opportunity and take some anger management classes.
This is an example of how you are a good and respectable boss who has earned the respect of your employees. Good job to taylor and your brother.
We need some more brother stories. The dynamic of your relationship is always hilarious and entertaining.
Yes , there is no expectation of privacy in an office using the company computers. Taylor overstepped his authority but did what most bosses would have done. Your videos are fantastic.
Saved the kids life that day 😂
Taylor probably saw the moment he could end it and prevent pride from escalating the situation any further. So he did.
I second this 1000%
I enjoy all your stories & would love to hear more.
I really enjoy your stories. No matter if they are about your plumbing business or your bail bondsmen business! Keep ‘em coming!! ❤
You are an incredible storyteller. Absolutely hilarious situation wow. More brother stories please!
"Oh. He's being an asshole. Huh." Awesome.
And while Taylor was right about not shooting employees, at that point, the dispatcher was no longer an employee. ;)
And absolutely yes to the bail bonds stories.
Taylor probably saved his life nonetheless.
you might be able to make a second channel with just the stories of you and your brother .... either way , more stories please , you have a talent for telling them
I am in agreement with @charlesboston1!!

Edit: Yes, Taylor deserves a bonus/raise for that bit of assertion. 🤘
Our company training, and work culture in general, is: Everything you do should be handled as if the customer you are serving is right there with you.

*Also, the fired guy is lucky he is still breathing.*
*And, no.

PLEASE more stories of you and your brother doing crazy stuff! I love it!

That being said, there is absolutely no sort of expectations of privacy on company equipment.

More brother stories please. I can relate to the laser focus when dealing with IT related issues :))
I always enjoy listening to your stories they are great. It would be great to hear more stories about you and your brother.
I think i like your brother 🤣🤣🤣

Retired now, but worked in IT as a programmer analyst. Never believed my work computer was mine. Never had any expectation of privacy regarding its contents. Would not have been completely comfortable with anyone else firing it up, for fear of them screwing something up, but would not have thrown a fit over it. Luckily, having the mouse to the left of the keyboard was enough to deter most such activity.
New watcher from Canada. Love your stories. Definitely more about you and your brother
I worked IT help desk for a number of years. There were a few times that people were worried about their "private" data that they chose to keep on their company devices.
For some reason it's always executives that fall into this category in my experience.
Because they believe no one would dare get on "their" computer!
The method I mentioned would work even if one of the providers stopped working, like spectrum tends to stop working a lot for a few minutes in our area so the backup just goes to verizon which works 100% of the time for us
Absolutely no privacy expectations on a company computer! Love your stories, crazy stuff!
G’day James

Another was fired for: doing searches for new jobs, writing resumes, printing resumes, calling potential new employers and even doing a couple of online job interviews... from his workstation during his shift.
