I tried ss13 some years ago. Tried to RP an intern and figuring out how to make coffee ... and where. Nobody cared, but I snuck into some vents behind an engi. Found some tools in a locker and figured out how to disassemble things. It did something bad to the reactor. Next time they'll let me make coffee.
here's something quite interesting I've actually been on a server that lasted for 3 days in real time it was absolutely chaos there are so many people begging to call the shuttle because there were so many people who died that were very crucial to keep the server running well keeping the ship running we had a captain who used his all access pass that went insane and killed half of the ship I somehow survived with a group of people and I kept the place clean because I was playing the janitor I'm not a liable of dealing with anything else I prefer doing the janitor to work but still it was total chaos I didn't get enough sleep for those 3 days the moment I woke up the next morning it was just total chaos and there was so much blood on the floors it took me a couple hours to clean the whole station
You should make a video explaining the various roles to new players. I’ve never played it and I’m not into sci-if but I may give it a whirl. I love intricate games

@@BasedBellagio I’ve already seen a lot of you videos. I really like them. However there’s one video I’m a little perplexed about. It’s about the quirks/perks in the game. You’re a little all over the place, some of them you do describe them so someone like me can kinda visualize how it pans out. I realized that these perks are a fantastic way to immerse yourself into the game, and one thing is to read it and try to comprehend it, and another things is how it actually pan out in the game. One thing I for instance think would sound hilarious is to be a blind Medical Doctor. There’s some goofy characters you can make up. I actually think it’s pretty important, because that gets you away to power game, and into a more narrative based game. As far as I’m reading Space Station 13, it’s about the narrative, and you want to have as many aboard as possible, like DnD in that sense.

16:54 Neekothing is still *technically* SS13 derived. It branched off way too early in ~2003 and is more of a loosely related cousin. Very few people have access to the source it's an easy mistake. Good video overall.
I both love and hate this game. Love because of how deep every single mechanic and role can be, all while being interconnected with pretty much the rest of the game. But hate it, because of it's community being various kinds of terrible.
i started playinh some days ago on Beestation, pretty cool people, havent meet the annoying trolls whose only objective is to be the worst kind of troll
scanning yo boooty cheeks and sending them to everyone is a classic! the pic when you mentioned the blob, my sides! good retrospective, i like how you went into detail about the game and roles you can play as. perhaps i'll check it out! looking forward to more retrospectives!
Problem with players steering the game, as people retire from management/coding in the game it leaves the door open to egotists to takeover and start getting weird, changing things arbitrarily and playing favorites.
Its a big shame that ss13 is being taken over by language police and furries. The whole point of its opensource nature is that you get to experience characters ingame like you'd experience them in real life. For a 2d game ss13 is more immersive then most games that *try* to be immersive. This is because the opensource nature doesnt just mean anyone gets do dev it and add sprites. It means that anyone can openly source the game with content by BEING the content. The freedom of choosing weather to act like this or that is the whole point of the game. You have the freedom to decide how you behave, and in the end you should be policed by organic social control instead of admins. If you call everyone slurs there's a big chance you wont be saved when you need it etc or you'll get excluded from information and social circles within the round. This is why SS13 is fun, and why servers like CEV ERIS, TG and VG still allow for greater nuance and realism than servers like goon or even TGMC. When you're roleplaying a veteran OORAH spacesoldier but cant even call the big bad xeno a retard what the fuck is the point even lmao?

I had the same excitement and nervousness when approaching this game at 1st. It's part if the fun. Definitely try it out you won't regret it.
