Ya know...the game is called Steel Cage Challenge, and they don't factor any steel cage matches into the tournament/championship mode. They make one of the first WWF games to include actual full-time tag teams like the Nasty Boys and Headshrinkers, and yet they don't include tag team matches. If this game had tag team and Royal Rumble matches like its SNES & Genesis counterparts, and supported up to 4 players like next year's game (RAW), I think it would have been remembered as the defining WWF/LJN game.
This was all always so puzzling to me. The Championship mode is so bland because of it. And yes, the biggest head scratcher to me was always the lack of tag matches. So confusing, considering the other games like Royal Rumble, and even Super WrestleMania had them. Bizarre.
Yeah that sticks out. But if you knew Acclaim's business practice back there, it's unsurprising. Acclaim always wanted to maximize their profits and thus made various versions of the same game with differences, in the hope that people who own both or multiple consoles, would actually by the same game twice. Hence why Super Wrestlemania on Mega Drive has the Championship mode and the SNES doesn't or the different rosters on the Mega Drive and SNES versions of Super Wrestlemania and Royal Rumble (or even before that, Steel Cage Challenge on NES and Master System) Also, Rage in the Cage was quickly thrown together, it was released only 2 months after Royal Rumble.
And then they added tag teams and a cage match, but got rid of tag team matches and didn’t put any cage matches in the single player mode. 🤣💀 Like what?
@@Virtual.Suplex I remember playing WWF Royal Rumble on the Genesis as well as WWF RAW. The latter being more popular if I remember correctly, I remember RAW had more players and I think better gameplay? They both looked very similar, especially to this game. Some of the wrestlers that appeared in this were never to be seen again. 😂🤣
Ohhhh.... the silly iconic choke out dance lol great game that developed from the arcades. And being its a cd game this game was one of the first wrestling games with voices that were recorded. Rip Fink. But over time the intros got tiring being the same
I found an website some years ago where someone teased an fan project which combined all wrestlers from Rage in the Cage, Royal Rumble, RAW and all game modes. A shame that it never happened. I‘m not someone who is into programming but I think it could be possible with Open BOR (Beats of Rage).
The tapping of buttons just to make a move or takedown or the whole full bar for a special move.. me and my big bro would be hrs tapping the buttons back and forward.. very tireing
I played this for the first time a few months ago. I didn't like the cage match i couldn't figure out how to climb out of the cage also why wasn't hulk hogan on the roster?
@@Virtual.Suplex the group overall sucked. LOL If it was done right, 1,2,3 Kid, Tatanka and Bam Bam Bigelow were a solid 3 in any group. I thought Tatanka and Bam Bam Bigelow (R.I.P) would've made a GREAT Tag-Team.

Man this game brings back so many memories!
Sure does. These games have their flaws, but they're fun.

The reverb on the vocal tracks for the introductions is hilarious. No crowd noise like cheering makes it seem like they are in a cave yelling. lol 😂
🤣 definitely does
It honestly sounds like they recorded all the audio in a bathroom.
Oh my. I never even knew this game existed 😂😂 Damn, i wish i still had my Sega CD Lol!
This is the only reason I wanted a Sega CD back in the day. 🤣
A Sega CD game that graphically looks exactly like one of it's Genesis counterparts. Except for the high quality audio and some FMV. 🤣😂

Howard Finkel was the absolute best!
Holy shit, it looks/plays just like WWF Raw on the Sega Genesis.
It does. Raw on the Genesis is better IMO.
Better sound card on this one though.
@@jthek2000 Was Sega CD basically Genesis with CD quality audio or was it 32 bit? I always did regret not getting the 32x. 🤔
@@bingeMAFIA I think they officially advertised it as 24-bit.
@@bingeMAFIA it had more power but wasn't used properly often
Man so many memories
You're not kidding. Love these games!
It needs Bobby Heenan's "Hey how are you. Hey how are you."
💀💀💀
Haha where’s the cage
I’m wondering the same thing!!! 🤣 How is it not part of the Championship Mode at all?!
Outstanding
Thanks for watching!
Rugged Ronnie Garvin as the guest referee.
🤣
That's Mike C
I miss Howard Finkel. By far the greatest to do it.
No doubt about it. Truly the greatest of all time.

Man, I would have loved to play that.
BUFFALO!!!!
💪💪💪
Wow, this has got to be the only game Samu appears in, yeah?
It is indeed. That video is coming up sometime soon.
Pretty sure samu was on Sega royal rumble

But it’s so 90s gaming summed up and I love it. 🤣
I love how he body slams Yokozuna like it’s nothing.🤣
Even crazier when 1-2-3 Kid does it in WWF Raw
Yokozuna is actually rather small in this game.
@@michaelfowler5760 lmao yeah I know

Not sure on Hogan. While he left the WWF a few months prior, I wouldn’t think especially back then that they would have had enough time to pull him.
20:07 34:35
The Rivalries.
36:48 a few years later, Ted brings Tatanka into The Million Dollar Corporation.
Loathed the Million Dollar Corporation. 🤣💀

The match intros
Very cool, but they get repetitive - although I do appreciate that each wrestler has 2-3 different ones to mix it up.
Is this the first WWF game without Hulk Hogan in it? It just might be. I think Crush is the last minute replacement seeing how bad that Crush is.
I believe it was the first game without Hogan, yes.
16:56 Ref bump during Undertaker match! Ouch! 😲
27:43 - 32:41 The Nasty Boyz but they got the same voice. 😄
Love the ref bumps in these 16-bit LJN WWF games perhaps more than any other wrestling games.

Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! Love Retro Sega Game !

I wanted that game
Me too. The only reason that I even wanted a Sega CD. 🤣
BUFFALO!
🤣🤣🤣
It's actually Bison. Buffalo do not exist in the America's.
Idc what anyone says, when I was a kid Tatanka was one of my favorite wrestlers.
Did you still like him when he sold out to Ted DiBiase?
Buffalo
🤣
Tatanka was one of the lamest wrestlers to get such a big push. The stupid fake "war cry" to the outfit...and the hilarious tamahawk chop.
Tatanka in the Million Dollar Corporation is especially bad.
The ring introductions every time is lame.
I can see that, but you can skip them, and at least they have a few different ones for each wrestler.
@@Virtual.Suplex I didn't realize you can skip them.
