After seeing the OpenAI presentation, I'm not impressed with Google.
I've never been impressed with google AI. Gemini (and their older models) have always been a year behind

The 2 million token context is better. They have AlphaFold and TPU's, but this video only mentions the latter. PaliGemma is different than Llama 3. But yeah, the OpenAI event yesterday was way more impressive.

That "Audio has been pre-generated" is so small and similar in color to the blaring white background. Stealthy but not stealthy enough. If the audio was pre-generated, so was the entire interaction.

Google has not released an actual product in FIFTEEN years. This is just one of 6 Google AI initiatives that will be killed off in 30 months.
Their efforts and stumbles since OpenAi ate their lunch have been comedy to watch.
Unless you count AlphaFold...that's actually impressive. Not sure why they didn't mention it.
Some things are so self evidently wrong that it's not worth trying to debunk.

I remember Google Stadia for cloud based gaming. Worked perfectly for me and many others but as expected Google cancelled it. Google believes that when they are not monopolist they rather cancel the project instead of facing competition.
@@m.3257 I don't think that was the case. I played entirety of Assassins creed Odyssey in Stadia as a beta tester lol. Though with a controller so the lag wasn't as apparent. The lag was the main drawback to this. If the lag was fixed, people would still be using it and they wouldn't have to cancel it. Since it was so bad, it wasn't worth playing on it. And no players means no revenue and no revenue means the product will get axed.
@@SahilP2648 But I played AC Odyssey as well an it worked perfectly. The controller had the advantage to directly connect to WiFi. However, for most games I enjoyed using the keyboard and mouse. I had the game pass ultimate for several months and I had a lot more problems there, freezes, glitches etc.. I would still have Stadia if it was available but I had to quit the game pass. Btw. now I play Fallout NV on Luna from Amazon. Works pretty well.
Soon their A.I will have more emotions than the presentators.
They spread too wide with 1.5 Pro, 1.5 Flash, Veo, Trillium, Gems, Gemini Nano, PaliGemma, Gemma 2, etc. OpenAI just introduced GPT-4o and what it capable of and it was much more interesting and groundbreaking than this.

The main thing I gathered was that Google will be scanning our emails and now understands context. "Gemini, based on the emails you now understand, provide a list of candidates who are psychologically manipulatable for our aims"
The big question is, can Gemini recognize white people now?

They have become too ideological - DEI with too many managers and poor morale

They show them using some of this in London in the demo, but so many of these Google AI tools are “not available in your country” for the UK when you look around their “labs” website.

These models are nowhere capable enough to act like tutors at this moment. As your own benchmark constantly shows, these models doesn't understand basic physics yet. Imagine the model telling my son that the ball is in the microwave 😅

It would seem less like they were playing catch-up if they didn’t lean so obviously intentionally heavily into presentation prep. It’s the era of real and authentic and instead they have all these people who don’t seem nervous at all

First you answer the call (so now the scammer knows there's a person at this number🤦), then you divulge your name and possibly other information and after 30-40 seconds more of the scammer manipulating you the call is cut off and detected as "likely a scam". The problem is googles implementation, I open a new chrome tab and there's no Ai assistant like on Bing and Facebook. They need to make more of this stuff widely available and integrate it with their products like search and YT, or people with just get used to using other AIs
The only thing I think is really annoying about these latest "ai shows" is the person waiting for applause after every single thing said, like a bad comedy show where they had an "applause sign" that would cue people to applaud and laugh 😂😂😂😂
People forget Google is the forerunner in ML. OpenAI exists because of Google's research. Their public offerings are not up there, but let's not be outright disrespectful.

I am writing a tool that does a Google search, gets URLs, generates zips from the e files, and queues up my RAG engine.
I am trying to automate the collection of data so I can accept it or not, and then the creation of experts based on data I curated.
I get the feeling they have implemented this under the hood.
Seems like Google and OpenAI have two different audiences.
I plan to check out their open source poly model.
Being able to get answers to questions like "Did you see where I left my keys?" Will probably save me about 5 hours a day...
A desperate attempt by Google to get ahead of the Apple Announcement next month. With a shoddy edited presentation of what they are working on but don’t have yet. The only reason 4o isn’t freely available is they have a deal with Apple who aren’t announcing till WWDC
I suspect Google added the point that "you can even interrupt it..." because of the seamless interaction OpenAI showed yesterday with 4o. I expect the Google product to be much more transactional than conversational.
I tend to say "Okay Google" a few times an hour. Basic math. Look up some facts. Set a timer.
I expect it to be a seamless transition for a lot of people.
I do like the OpenAI stuff better from a programming perspective.
But ai do like Google because I work with their tools a lot.
I think both companies are targeting different audiences with their products and I plan to use both.
They are talking about agents, most people watching this want there own custom agents of course!

The 2 million token context is nice. PaliGemma is different than Llama 3 & Stable Diffusion. They have AlphaFold and new TPU's, but this cut only mentions the latter. (I'm glad groq, google, AWS, & Cerebras to help fight NVIDIA. And AMD I guess.)

I'm curious about two things. Aren't these projects for startups, not Google? We expect Google to build AI, and startups to focus on case studies, not the other way around. Also, hasn't Google lost its purpose? They were a search company, but as search declines, they seem lost, building AI apps to stay relevant. Companies like OpenAI (Which is not Open anymore) have a clear mission "better AI" like Google's original "better search." It's sad to see Google, a favorite company of mine take this path. What do u think? And as a side note: "Google: We’re listening (wiretapping) to your phone calls all the time to keep u safe from bad guys! Audience: Yeayyyyyyy 🤨"
