In the late 1960's, Emery Gulash, past president of Star Models and avid photographer, set out to record on film the passing of the Rio Grande's freight operations. With a 16mm Bolex camera and tripod, Emery was able to produce spectacular full-color history of one of the most famous narrow gauge operations in the U.S.
The photography of Emery Gulash is unsurpassed for its clarity, creative composition and brilliant color. Coverage includes single and double headed operations between Alamosa and Silverton, including Antonito, Cumbres, Chama and Durango.
Also included are many rare shots of Pagosa Springs and the Farmington branch.

Glad to be commenting after all these years this video has been up that 493 is alive and breathing for the first time in 50 years

I am so happy that 493 got restored. Luckily 491 was fixed in 2014 but just 1 K-37 is not enough. More than 1 brings back history

Awesome video here too. I never tire seeing those awesome narrow gauge steam engines. Especially of #484.

Terrific. Don't see a lot of dual-gauge railway. Nice vid, thanks. Those two steam locos seem to be making hard work of just moving themselves.

The only D&RGW steam engines that I will film are the engines in the cumbres & Toltec scenic railroad, the Colorado railroad museum in golden, Colorado, the Durango & silverton narrow gauge railroad, the Royal gorge park, and the huckleberry railroad those are the railroads that I will film and to be in RUclips.

well obviously, the only standard gauge RIo Grande engine left in the world is on static display at the Colorado Railroad Museum. you can't film engines that don't exist anymore.
