I remember looking in awe at the screenshots on the back of the box at Best Buy in 1998. Dad bought it for me. I REALLY wish I kept that box, CD, and heavy duty spiral bound thick manual.
F 4.0 marked the point at which simulation essentially reached maturity. Not that it couldn't get better. But beyond this point, improvements have been refinements, rather than transformational changes. Today, Falcon BMS 4.37 with VR support is still based on the original Falcon 4.0 code base and is highly competitive with DCS World, and in terms of hardcore F-16 based realism, it's better than DCS. Plus the dynamic campaign is unmatched by ANY sim.
The fact that modders were also able to out in a full-fidelity F-15C with a working cockpit into a game built specifically to simulate the F-16 also means that for less than $10 you have a better F-15C sim than DCS World.
The handbook for this game was like 200 pages or something (perhaps 100, perhaps 300), but immense for that time. The amount of hours to really learn to fly was immense (even to this day)
Hello, I was making a video as a sort of tribute to both falcon 4.0 and BMS, I was wondering whether or not I could use a clip from this video (specifically the section leading up to the gun shot on the F15 towards the end)
It has dynamic campaigns. Actually, one of the reasons people play the modded modern version (Falcon BMS) over DCS World is the really great dynamic campaign system.
Falcon 4.0 in original form is online....HOWEVER finding someone to play with is unlikely. Falcon 4.0 has been improved upon (to the point its hardly even recognizable) by a group of modders and that is available for free with an original copy of Falcon 4.0. And it is online, plenty of groups, and fully VR capable now

It's crazy how this game still holds up!
They coded it where you can gun down parachutes 💀💀💀

Falcon 4.0 still looks good and holds today
Especially with BMS
For a moment I thought I could see the remains of the other pilot spinning in the air, but I guess it was just debris.
Nicely done, Cap'n!!
This looks really good for 1998
It had pretty high requirements when it came out.

quick question
is this the type of game you can pla yon a keyboard or do you need a joystick and all the other stuff?
Joystick highly recomended
@@SandMartin But is it "unplayable" like DCS?
