to get good at pvp. solo pvp using t1 frigates since they are cheapest to lose and since nobody is there to do the thinking for you. or pvp with somebody who will help you.
And now imagine a game with a broader spectrum of gameplay and alot more money on hand. I am curious what that game will look like in 10 years, aren't you as well?
As I've noticed most of my answers in regards to EVE stuff boil down to, it depends. Burn Jita? Terrorism. CODE and their fanaticism? Terrorism. Rando gate camp fleets out in the boonies not sharing a corporation or alliance? Not terrorism ... probably. Essentially the defining motive of a terrorist action is to provoke or coerce a government or population into acting in accordance with your will through violence or psychological torture. So take CODE for example. The violence is pretty straightforward. If you fly a mining ship or transport with little to no defense in a populated area, go AFK while you mine or activate autopilot, and don't pay attention to your surroundings, CODE comes along and ruins your day. But the psychological effect is a bit less overt. Word gets out, everyone knows the name, and they know the threat of attack is always there. They might realize they're doing it or be completely unaware, but they begin paying attention, sacrificing pure capacity or efficiency for defensive measures, stop watching videos while the jumping or mining happens in the background, and start flying more alertly. James winds up getting what he wants even if a given miner or hauler hasn't been blown up and sent back to the clone bay by CODE cultists.
Indeed, the ice interdiction was a very specific campaign with the goal of pushing the price of Oxygen Isotopes through the roof, it was very profitable.
People seem to be under the mistaken impression that high-security space makes it illegal to attack you without provocation. There is no such rule, but people believe this. The rule is "If you attack someone in Hi-Sec Space without provocation, you will lose your ship almost instantly".
I tried to joing a ganker club they didnt accept me due to my sec status was high and no gank history. Now how cool is that. You need -1 sec status to join pirates.I mean its original.
I think the G00n philosophy is that the point of the game is not to make isk. Thats just the currency. While player driven economy is big part of the game and motivation for a lot of people, this isn't wallstreet-online. The point of the game is to have fun and blowing things up is very fun to a lot of people. MrJethroha Also, Goonswarm got pissed with CCP for removing alloys from the game ( as a result also raising the prices of any and all ships) so Goonswarm started jumping into high-sec and destroying expensive looking ships
+Ó Slatraigh when I was in a pirate corp I used to think anti pirate corps were hilarious. They didn't really seem to get we were there to kill stuff and by fighting us they were doing what we wanted... XD
EverQuest started the whole MMO genre imo back in 199, but yes, EVE has lasted longer than many MANY MMOs and has thousands of players on ONE server rather than thousaands on players on many servers.
Neogenex EQ has been a ghost town for some time now though, no? I'm not saying EVE is the oldest MMORPG, just saying that it's maintained a profitable user base for longer than any other MMORPG. I don't really know that though; I'm just guessing based on my own knowledge. I guess WoW is pretty old as well, but while WoW userbase has been steadily declining, EVE's is increasing. WoW has also gone from great to good to bad to worse whereas the consensus in the EVE community seems to be that it's better than it's ever been.
Colin Bell Oh I 100% agree wtih WoW. As far as EQ, it doesnt have the popularity/population is used to. Mostly because they decided to make it F2P... but still have a "shop" you can purchase things from. That is THE worse thing ANY game can do. EVE has it, but it is only for simple things like skins or to get another 30 days of game time. EVE will be around for many years to come... unless they go with the stupid F2P system that most of the "old but good" games did and turned them to utter crap.
Freighters should have a self destruct mode where when the pilot sees this derpy BS going on he just blows his own ship Supernova style and the attackers get NOTHING, but die in his blast and from the Concord. and get NO credit.
EVE game mechanics don't allow for fair play. Bumping should cause damage, or bump the smallest ship... You're effectively warpjamming the freighter by bumping, without actually being listed as a hostile force. EVE has a lot of these unfair rules that always favor the PVP side.
MajorStewie Yes, yes, you want to assert your manhood by beating defenseless little bunnies into a pulp, I get it. But tell me this: why can you not shoot down scanner probes or deploy your own counter-scanning probes to create fake scanner readings? Because you damn carebear pirates need to be guided to your victims while your ship only requires you to push a button to unleash the lazors and you call that skillz! Why can I have 3 ungodly powerfull minings lasers but am not allowed to melt your puny Velator for canflipping?
I love the transition from a pve mindset to a more pvp oriented mindset between the ganks. The horrible clusterfuck overview and no fleet warp at the first kill to a slightly better overview with fleet warp on the second.
Evan Magolor where is your logic in that are you stupid, highsec as in high security your almost safe, low security you have no police and null sec Is free for all
While I'm not a fan of the game (let alone CCP!), I want to compliment on how well this video has been done. It depicts a fascinating aspect of the game, it is full of interesting information, it shows a lot of what's going on. Among so many boring gaming videos, this one is a jewel, and I enjoyed watching all 22 minutes.
Nice. I was in the fleet from 2007 up to whenever the Great Disbanding was, and still subscribe for a couple months every now and then. It's blowing my mind that I've been following your awesome KSP videos for awhile now and have probably been going on ops with you all the while without even knowing it.
It's like Scott says, you don't have to die if you pay attention. I moved my shipping concerns out to Amarr weeks beforehand and stayed around in cheap ships & without implants to enjoy the fireworks. Burn Jita should be a holiday :)
I am a loyal disciple of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ever since I was converted by my 4th grade teacher- Mr. (or Ms.Garrison depending on when you met him) *PLEASE* Open a place of worship for us members here in Miami, FL.
The whole burn Jita event is much like a gang of fighters walking into a park and attacking unarmed and peaceful people who just want to chill and pick berries in the park..."BECAUSE RAWR!!!! YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO JUST PICK BERRIES IN THE PARK!!!!" Then patting each other on the back by showing carebears why 0.0 is mostly empty space, why carebears would not survive in 0.0 space, and how they are ruining the game for PvP'ers who really just want to shoot at anything that moves...I'm sure a few hotheaded tear sippers are already cooking up a reply to my simple observation...don't worry little dudes...I'm not saying you shouldnt be able to blow up unarmed civilians...I'm suggesting that you abandon any excuse or cause to do so outside of "I just want to ruin your game play"
time dilation is actually very rare, and in battles where it happened, i was very glad that it happened. ( I was in Asakai and when i think back,i was really happy that we could react in 1/10 of the time, because it was a clusterfuck) its all perspective thought, yea it sucks for people who arent involved in it, but guess what: if you are one of the 3000 players in a capital or bigger clustering eachother, you really want to react to everything apropriately. time dialation is better than lag.
Nope, nope, nope. Burn Jita started planning before Fanfest, Goonswarm always set 10k votes as the threshold, but when Mittani said dumb things that got him removed and banned it just gave them a date.
Well, I was just guessing, since I don't actually play EVE. Even though I quit online gaming years ago, this game really, really has my attention. I am at the very edge of breaking and going for it.
Here's an idea; take a ship you don't really care about, buy insurance for it, then fly it around Jita during the "Burn Jita" event (the ship being empty or full of relatively cheap or worthless items) and wait for people to kill it and then collect the insurance money.
I feel that the social experiment in this game is very interesting. People who enjoy the game grief others for fun. Those on the receiving end who did enjoy the game, get tired of being killed 100 -1 and quit. Then who is left? The griefers grief themselves? Until they quit? I guess I fail to see the long game behind this. It seems in the long term this would be counter productive to enjoying a game with people.
this games being going for over 15 years now. what you fail to understand is you die, you learn, you play. if YOU get told there is going to be a PVP even in Jita (which is what was advertised) would you warp in with an expensive ship? i didnt think so. This game is designed about punishing you for making mistakes. if you are vigilant and plan ahead, you can survive and do well. otherwise you can sook, whinge, becoming a carebear and keep dying because you refuse to adapt to how eve works.
You know Amarr is on the route from Providence to Jita, so, the second pilot killed actually passed that way but decided to press on to Jita despite all the warnings not to.
I want to see a corporation on the other side of nullsec space do a "Save Jita" Event on the same day that tries to prevent the burn jita events from happening. Huge 10 second battles taking place to save one person from total annihilation. Would be a fantastic way to start a war with Goon.
woudnt work, the reason burn jita works is because everyone is focusing down one target, if you get a counter fleet they have to target all the badguys
Loved it Scott, I was online at the time, watching the live feed. I paid attention and went to trade somewhere else, but I made about 1.4 billion ISK by getting items from wrecks later, seeing as my corp organized a mass salvage.
I think the providence was aware, maybe they just didn't care about their loss and wanted to be part of the fun? If I had a freighter (and I didn't really want to play EVE that much anymore) i'd probably let my frieghter go up in flames as part of the celebration.
While it sounds a little dick-ish to condone players doing stuff like this, CCP has always taken their gameplay philosophy VERY seriously. I for one like that the game has things like this because it's just another thing that helps shape the universe into something interesting. Besides, if someone really wanted to, they could start a bounty-hunting corp and go make millions in nullsec hunting down gate campers and collecting bounties. Pirates and griefers win because they know EVE combat favors the aggressor.
AzureRoxe my guess is he has a typo there seeing how gatecampers tend to favour LOW sec for obvious reasons. nullsec "gatecamps" are usually defenders or aggressors of warring alliances and are less likely to have decent bounties.
Regardless of what villainy certain elements (CFC, Goon or no) intended, I still say this is an interesting aspect of game culture. And I'm always glad to see new Scott Manley videos.
Well some online communities have eve alliances that help their newbies get rich quick. Other than that - do the 5 career tutorial arcs then head to Arnon and do the Sisters Arc, you should have enough isk to buy an fit a Cruiser by the end of that.
This is a bit like someone coming to play poker, cheating, then making a video about how all people should cheat at playing poker... But that's the sort of warped morality to be expected from a group of peoples who call themselves goons. As can be seen by their lead character that seems like some sort of psychopath, who has even suggested harrasing someone ingame till they kill themselves. Add to the all that fact that this is just bullying, as you're fielding huge resources on single players and then think about that if risk in eve isn't managed the parasitic players will eventually kill the whole game because the productive ones would leave. The whole war should be everywhere philosophy is wrong. And what's wrong with people just playing high sec? I think what gets on these goon's tits is that there are huge fortunes there that they can't steal. Which comes to the real point I have to make: despite being a game what we are seeing with this is a criminal mindset. Not a crime IRL, although the Mittanis words came pretty damn close, but in broad strokes the same sort of selfish aspirations. We all have a dark side, but I for one won't agree with people trying to call the darkness light.
It's mostly so that there's a buffer in case war targets get involved, that's why we have 10 rounds of ammo, even though we'd only get to use 1 or two in an attack.
And you wonder why everyone ignores this game... "Hey! lets have a day where we all be dicks to new or stupid players!" followed shortly by "Hey why doesn't anyone play this game?"
Last time Hulkageddon was active was because the prices of Technetium was so high that OTEC (Organization of Technetium Exporting Corporations) made a profit on every kill. CCP Eventually made it less profitable due to weakening the Tech monopoly and making it harder to kill Hulks.
MrFlytoskyyy2 Actually, this IS a fairly good representation of EVE. It's 99.9% spreadsheets and angry swarms of icons. Those nice looking ships can only be seen while warping around or in stations. If you play this game for PVE, you are paying CCP to be a juicy pinata for other players to whack, because everything in EVE is about PVP. EVERYTHING. Player skill is mostly irrelevant, it all boils down to how much money you paid CCP to buy skills.
omg scott.. i know you purely from your kerbal space program videos and just as i was scrolling through your other vids i discovered this...YOU ARE A GOON? never ever would i have thought that of you..lol
For all the FarmVille kids complaining on how EVE is such a bullshit game because of this, may I note out this video was filmed in Jita. For current EVE players I think we can agree that Jita is the most active place on EVE. In any situation where you have a goldmine, you'll lure in both the good and bad.
Before I hunted Goons I hunted Russian Alliance.. before the RA I hunted Band of Brothers, my very first kill was a BoB. There are ALWAYS suitable targets for all kind of people.
I don't play the game so I'm quite possibly just not getting the "finer" points of Eve. But for guy whom claims to have no problems with ganking you do seem to having to justify it for a good third of the video ;)
To get into this situation required a large amount of effort and wilful ignorance on the parts of the victims. We wanted Jita to become a warzone where everyday people were in danger every day, just like the people living in Syria or Afghanistan.
IT DOESN'T HAVE A SOUL. THE MISSION STATEMENT OF THE GOONSQUAD IS LITERALLY TO MAKE EVE HELL FOR EVERY PLAYER. THEY ARE LED BY THE MATANI, AN ASSHOLE WHO DOESN'T EVEN PLAY THE GAME ONLINE AND THEREFORE IS NEVER AT THE RECEIVING END OF ANY OF THIS BULLSHIT. WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?
do you even play EVE? have you even understood that people like "The Matanni" Are what CCP want in this game? this whole game is meant to be dangerous. its meant to ensue anger to players who havnt caught on? why do you think there's never been a tutorial (until the sorta shit one now. cheers carebears)? this game requires you to be on your feet, ready for anything. there is no safe place. If you cant figure that out, or you dont want to... Dont play/Stop Playing Eve. all you'll end up doing is crying everytime you make a mistake and another player punishes you for it.
For someone who doesn't play EvE this just seems like some grand sci-fi movie (but with all of the 'boring' yet awesome stuff that you don't see in movies). For example: that guy talking in the background just makes it more awesome because you know that everything he's saying truly is (for someone) useful information. Just awesomely awesome...
They dont usually kill random people.. They kill people that think they can carry all their stuff in 1 gimped out hauler. They have ship scanners to find those people, and then kill them to take their loot. because its obvously not worth enough to the victim for them to protect it properly!
To literately describe this game in a paragraph is actually impossible, the game is so beautiful. It's like a simulation of the world we live in today, market prices rise and fall, great corporations rising and falling, players making their own history and with it being imprinted onto the EVE universe and could well affect the future of the game.
Never played EVE or heard of it until now, but it seems really really good. The gameplay seems so dynamic. With most RPGs, players actually have very little influence on how the game plays out, or the lore. They can experience the lore that the developers create, but they can't really help to shape it.
alpha clones are just gank bait eve has a huge problem with grief players.. IE Burn Jita. if you do not have 200 mill or more skill points you are just a target in a shooting range.. They nicknamed the issue Blue Waffle because the Botters and multiboxers ruined the game.. so they are offering free to play to bait losers to the platform. Don't get sucked into this bullshit underdeveloped shit show of a dying game platform.. its is tedious and mundane with 0 chance of reward you will be a target to elitist players you wont be able to play at all. Not that you play eve ever.. really it is 99% sitting in station 1% loosing everything you paid cash for you wont actually do anything in this game.
RUclips captions says 'kala d_p_s walter division st' But what the FC said was 'Guys, Warp to double-U's in fleet' which means find the guy in fleet chat that's just said 'wwwwwww' and warp to him.
I dont think they weren't aware I just think that for every freighter you sunk ten other freighters made it through and made bank on a desperate market and the risk was worth the reward of dealing with space pirates
i'm a carebear, and i chuckled all through this video. i value the freedom of action in the game enough to put up with organized gankings like this and other greifer activity. greifers dominate the game anymore and i could whine about it at length, or i could just accept this and play the game. hulkageddon and events like this are part of the game, and even though i don't like getting ganked, i love that fact that the game is truly open and free enough these events can occur. i agree that people should have had a clue that going to jita, when people are telling you NOT to go was a bad idea. so for me, and my too-uncoordinated-to-PVP-hauling-and-mining-carebear-ass i am willing to give up a bit of safety to gain a degree of freedom. see you in EVE.
The mentality of killing a person is not the same as the mentality of blowing up a ship in EVE. If that were true then the people capable of ganking would also be capable or murder. It would feel just the same for them. I highly doubt that the people involved in online piracy are capable nor willing to do the same in real life
Yep, that's precisely why I uninstalled the game after my free trial. I'd much rather be a spectator in this kind of atmosphere. It's fascinating to watch videos like this and hear the stories from my friends who are or have been EVE players. This game is remarkable in its combination of sci fi action/adventure and purely player-driven community building and conflict.
"And for 10 glorious seconds we are demolishing this target...that has done nothing more than be in the wrong place at the wrong time...we hope the tears that perhaps we gain, the rage that we induce will be worth every ISK that we unleash upon it." Hahaha GLORIOUS! =D
Scott, I have been shown so many games I would never have known about otherwise by you (KSP, Planet Explorers, AntiChamber) I would love to see a video of yours detailing your favorite indie games. Fly safe!
"They're not reading the forums, or keeping up with current events..." Yes, do the mental gymnastics it takes to feel good about making someones $50 of real money go down the pisser.
Ó Slatraigh on the contrary, I've been subbed to this game since 2012 and found no other game more enjoyable than this one, whether I'm winning fights or losing them. EVE is a PVP game, and the moment you undock a ship, you consent to PVP. Anyone who joins this game and undocks something not expecting PVP is doing it wrong.
Scott...Thank You for your time and sharing he wealth of information in a great game. This is my day 3 and your videos have taught me tons of valuable information. I just wanted to say. :THANK YOU!"
One of the main reasons why gaming is becoming tedious and infuriating. People forcing themselves on other gamers that just want to play their way. You as a gamer have no right to attack others just because you play a certain style. You're saying with your actions, that your style of play and your gaming experience trumps anyone elses. People are paying to play this game, and you think its fun to attack them just because they don't pvp. Such a bad example of gaming and gamers. Everything that is wrong with online gaming today.
Thanks scott for being in depth about the things i am seeing in eve. Explaining it really helps as sometimes i completely have no idea what i am looking at. Pretty tempted to give up 15 a month to play this.
So warning players just enjoying the game a massive group of bellends are trolling is their fault. any reason why such epic skilled players arent killing players that are actually looking for a fight ... a ofc not apparently ruining other people's days is more fun.
EVE is only cosmetically a game about space ships. In actuality it is a game of risk versus reward. Being willfully ignorant of risk in such a game is much like being willfully ignorant of risk in a casino, blaming it for taking all your money. There are, of course, players who haven't figured this out. They make themselves obvious by whining when killed and are mocked mercilessly by other players for it, hence the reference to 'tears'.
Scott makes some very valid points about these "lame" kills of "poor random sods" 10:43 and 21:00 . To me it would be wrong for this not to happen again and again. little bees
I've never understood the attraction to attack someone who is not at war with you. or dueling with you. You have to know everyone in Eve isn't aware of your childish ventures. You also knew they would show up. I guess its just a need for attention that your parents didn't give you. Who knows. I would be impressed if you all had attacked an opposing fleet of equal or greater size and and won. but I guess that would be to much of a challenge for you.
+Rodzilla McCloud in this case the chaos in the markets allowed me to make billions of ISK, so the attraction was 'making tons of money' in a game where making money is a prime driver. Understand now?
must be a WoW player... its amazing how babied World of Warcraft players are, someone says something they don't like, they report and that person is banned. yet when you get into eve online there are no rules and they cant handle it!
+dare21magine Not really, my first MMO was WoW almost... must be around 8 years now, and I still go back every few days / weeks to keep on top of gear, reputation etc. But at the same time, I love freedom in my games, I love a true sandbox in which my allies and enemies are the biggest threats. I have a love / hate relationship with Rust and Ark, I adore Wurm Online / Unlimited and frequent Open PvP servers to sell wares (as the servers are sepertae "islands" which can be sailed to) that I make for usually respectable profit - Risk reward is far more fun when the risk is losing, everything you've got on your body and isn't just taking slightly longer than it normally would. Yes WoW is new player friendly, and yes a good portion of the demographic is at either new mmo gamers and/or teens / older kids, so it has to be fairly forgiving and gentle but there are open PVP zones, especially in the new expansion as it has its quest zones and large portions of those quest zones are open PVP as soon as you cross the border. So don't sit and generalise without justification and be an elitist. It creates toxicity within communities.
Rodzilla McCloud "We aren't here to ruin the game. We are here to ruin YOUR game." -Goonswarm Federation Seriously these guys are professional trolls back then and maybe still are, but seriously it is their fault they didn't pay attention to all the Eve news and got themselves dead. XD
Scott Manley, the man of space stuff. Videos on today's space topics to video games. Is ganking in high sec and part of goonswarm. My life will never be the same again.... Lolz indeed
How about the time I brought my daughter into the Ice Interdiction - made billions from that particular endeavor ruclips.net/video/S9XbbBtm26U/видео.html
I understand pvp but when you get onto a non-pvp area to kill someone that even when warned you shouldn't do it... i understand playing group games, I play MWO (Mechwarrior Online) where not listening to your teammates or not understanding situations can be the end of your match. If you wanted to show true power in your leader and group how about go and destroy a pvp sector, instead of using underhanded tactics and destroying a safe-zone where your more protected in your pod then out in the pvp sectors. Its sad that you people have so much skill and have put so much time into a game, only to get into group and ruin the game for someone else because its "amusing" to watch their time and money to dashed away as you get away with the spoils of the kill when in truth when your ship is destroyed in a safe zone as a criminal you have to start all over, no cash and all ships revoked... but im just a harsh person, not your fault that your looking to ruins someone's day when devs leave the door open for shit like this... *sigh* much better, had to get that off my chest as i was listening to this whole crock of shit
eve is a sandbox where nowhere is safe, devs dont care what you do in the game unless you hack or exploit game mechanics in a bad way. Be quiet or learn to eve.
now that ive played eve i understand now, i haven't lost a ship atm but ive noticed something... if yall put it up in forums there are some unattentive people in eve :/
wait so you have to use really money to buy ships in this game...and the ship you guys killed cost $50 of someone's money that they (probably) worked for... so if I'm right then like hell I'll ever play this game!
CodeWolf Gaming you use in game money, but we equate it to real money as you can buy an in game item (plex, basically a 30 day game time card) that can be sold for in game money
I made a whole video about scams in Eve Online in the past - contract offers in Jita which are mainly schemes to rip you off. Also, there's the recruitment scam where popular alliance X asks for a membership fee and then denies entry, or worse.
as a newer player (it was like my 4th month) i remeber the original burn jita, i thought i was making a fortune looting some of those ships before smartbombs got me xD i didn't realize it became a yearly event (i took a 3 year break) this is awesome
I don't have a problem with Burn Jita (its part of the game). But Goonswarm are a bunch of alt-right trolls. I'm not Antifa but being of sound mind I also find them repulsive.
RULES OF EVE.
1- Don't fly anything that you cant afford to loose.
2- SEE RULE ONE.
to get good at pvp. solo pvp using t1 frigates since they are cheapest to lose and since nobody is there to do the thinking for you. or pvp with somebody who will help you.

I bet secretly the freighters there wanted to be blown up :)
SeedlingNL its a shame since eve online is a pve game.. oh wait
SeedlingNL :'( this game is unfair CCP it sucks please nerf PVP side :'(
MajorStewie Yes, yes, you want to assert your manhood by beating defenseless little bunnies into a pulp, I get it.
SeedlingNL the answer to that is don't play eve
I love the transition from a pve mindset to a more pvp oriented mindset between the ganks. The horrible clusterfuck overview and no fleet warp at the first kill to a slightly better overview with fleet warp on the second.
This is way, way late but I just realized that my character on EVE was the top damage dealer on that obelisk. How weird.
Remember kids, it's High Sec, not Safe Sec.
Then what's the point? If there was no truly safe sector, wouldn't everyone just sit in low/null sec?
Evan Magolor where is your logic in that are you stupid, highsec as in high security your almost safe, low security you have no police and null sec Is free for all
While I'm not a fan of the game (let alone CCP!), I want to compliment on how well this video has been done. It depicts a fascinating aspect of the game, it is full of interesting information, it shows a lot of what's going on. Among so many boring gaming videos, this one is a jewel, and I enjoyed watching all 22 minutes.
Ahhhh the beauty of Eve. Can't wait to get back into it.
SHUT UP
Nice. I was in the fleet from 2007 up to whenever the Great Disbanding was, and still subscribe for a couple months every now and then. It's blowing my mind that I've been following your awesome KSP videos for awhile now and have probably been going on ops with you all the while without even knowing it.
You get your friends to do it, you know, teamwork.
It's like Scott says, you don't have to die if you pay attention. I moved my shipping concerns out to Amarr weeks beforehand and stayed around in cheap ships & without implants to enjoy the fireworks. Burn Jita should be a holiday :)
Space Pirates...
The Flying Spaghetti Monster approves of this game.
I am a loyal disciple of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ever since I was converted by my 4th grade teacher- Mr. (or Ms.Garrison depending on when you met him)
*PLEASE* Open a place of worship for us members here in Miami, FL.
SHUT UP
This channel is quickly becoming a favorite for me! Really happy with all the content I have seen since I subscribed, a little less than a month ago.
Its not "I want to ruin your gameplay." Its "I find killing you when I shouldnt fun."
time dilation is actually very rare, and in battles where it happened, i was very glad that it happened. ( I was in Asakai and when i think back,i was really happy that we could react in 1/10 of the time, because it was a clusterfuck) its all perspective thought, yea it sucks for people who arent involved in it, but guess what: if you are one of the 3000 players in a capital or bigger clustering eachother, you really want to react to everything apropriately.
time dialation is better than lag.
every time I get a ship, I'm prepared to loose it.
Never put all your eggs in one basket. If I loose 1 out of ten ships on trading missions who cares?
Nope, nope, nope.
Burn Jita started planning before Fanfest, Goonswarm always set 10k votes as the threshold, but when Mittani said dumb things that got him removed and banned it just gave them a date.
Awww Scott is a Goon?? Damn dude that cost a little bit of the great respect that I have for you..
No one deserves more respect in the entire freaking universe than goons. They are srs bsns.
Energy Core Lmao! Excellent troll!
***** You must have been part of the aliance they fucked over, huh? :D
Arrynek01 Old NC yeah but I had problems with them before that and after.
RUclips clearly has a great sense of humor
You can't stop this happening, but you can take steps to stop it happening to you.
This game is designed about punishing you for making mistakes. if you are vigilant and plan ahead, you can survive and do well. otherwise you can sook, whinge, becoming a carebear and keep dying because you refuse to adapt to how eve works.
no pain no gain no game
You know Amarr is on the route from Providence to Jita, so, the second pilot killed actually passed that way but decided to press on to Jita despite all the warnings not to.
I want to see a corporation on the other side of nullsec space do a "Save Jita" Event on the same day that tries to prevent the burn jita events from happening. Huge 10 second battles taking place to save one person from total annihilation. Would be a fantastic way to start a war with Goon.
woudnt work, the reason burn jita works is because everyone is focusing down one target, if you get a counter fleet they have to target all the badguys
or just remote rep the target of the bad guys
Loved it Scott, I was online at the time, watching the live feed. I paid attention and went to trade somewhere else, but I made about 1.4 billion ISK by getting items from wrecks later, seeing as my corp organized a mass salvage.
Rule of thumb. Don't fly or carry anything expensive.
Scott manley: throws away 2 typhoons
Also Scott: I don’t wanna pay 30mil for a clone
Never flew with or fought against Goons. So far i like them more than PL. I wish i could see you in space once Scot!
Arkanoth Algernon out!

@@krimmins6765 lmao
You might have a point there. I wasn't there for the tears, I had investment plans that needed the market to be kicked.
I never understood why people enjoy causing others misery.
I absolutely love it! No, I have never played EVE. No, I doubt I will start playing it, but yet I love EVE vids like that!
I think the providence was aware, maybe they just didn't care about their loss and wanted to be part of the fun? If I had a freighter (and I didn't really want to play EVE that much anymore) i'd probably let my frieghter go up in flames as part of the celebration.
Great narration Scott. Interesting to watch.
1. Who's to say there isn't corps that do that?
2. It's NULLSEC. If you go there, you KNOW what will most likely happen.
AzureRoxe
my guess is he has a typo there seeing how gatecampers tend to favour LOW sec for obvious reasons. nullsec "gatecamps" are usually defenders or aggressors of warring alliances and are less likely to have decent bounties.
Regardless of what villainy certain elements (CFC, Goon or no) intended, I still say this is an interesting aspect of game culture. And I'm always glad to see new Scott Manley videos.
holy shit 30 day money back guarantee on bamboo floors
Lol
It's mostly so that there's a buffer in case war targets get involved, that's why we have 10 rounds of ammo, even though we'd only get to use 1 or two in an attack.
And you wonder why everyone ignores this game... "Hey! lets have a day where we all be dicks to new or stupid players!" followed shortly by "Hey why doesn't anyone play this game?"
That guys I’d efinately not a new player with his obelisk...
Last time Hulkageddon was active was because the prices of Technetium was so high that OTEC (Organization of Technetium Exporting Corporations) made a profit on every kill. CCP Eventually made it less profitable due to weakening the Tech monopoly and making it harder to kill Hulks.
glad i watched this before wasting time on eve online, what a bull shit game
yes because this is the offcial trailer and main gameplay of the game, you can make that assumption based on that
MrFlytoskyyy2 no it indicates the sort of people who play it
gotknoted
sniffle sniffle... go play farmville
bombud1 what ever it is it wont be this piece of bullshit
OHHHHHHH, BUUUURNNNN!
To get into this situation required a large amount of effort and wilful ignorance on the parts of the victims. We wanted Jita to become a warzone where everyday people were in danger every day, just like the people living in Syria or Afghanistan.
This is the soul of Eve Online. It's not a bullshit game, it's just not for you. This is glorious!
They warned everyone advanced to get the people out of there who were valuable and didn't want to fight.
Carebear tears, please give more.
***** Sociopath spines, give me...oh wait they don't have any.
Ó Slattarra yes sociopaths in video games. good argument. just like the sociopaths in sports who just want to win win win, what assholes :(
pvp players tears taste like squash, peanut butter, and onions.
This is why i dont play eve. People camping at warpgates and killing random people.
They dont usually kill random people.. They kill people that think they can carry all their stuff in 1 gimped out hauler. They have ship scanners to find those people, and then kill them to take their loot. because its obvously not worth enough to the victim for them to protect it properly!
Then why was i constantly killed in a capsule lol.
pliny vic when you were a newbie, in rookie systems? Or just in general?
Just in general. I did the trial and was being killed constantly in high security systems.
pliny vic when did you start? as there was a time when people were so bored that they just camped hs gates for pods
To literately describe this game in a paragraph is actually impossible, the game is so beautiful.
It's like a simulation of the world we live in today, market prices rise and fall, great corporations rising and falling, players making their own history and with it being imprinted onto the EVE universe and could well affect the future of the game.
all i see here is girls shooting fish in a barrel with a 12 gauge , too hard for them to go get a fishing rod and go to the beach
Never played EVE or heard of it until now, but it seems really really good.
The gameplay seems so dynamic. With most RPGs, players actually have very little influence on how the game plays out, or the lore. They can experience the lore that the developers create, but they can't really help to shape it.
alpha clones are just gank bait eve has a huge problem with grief
players.. IE Burn Jita. if you do not have 200 mill or more skill points
you are just a target in a shooting range.. They nicknamed the issue
Blue Waffle because the Botters and multiboxers ruined the game.. so
they are offering free to play to bait losers to the platform. Don't get
sucked into this bullshit underdeveloped shit show of a dying game
platform.. its is tedious and mundane with 0 chance of reward you will
be a target to elitist players you wont be able to play at all. Not that
you play eve ever.. really it is 99% sitting in station 1% loosing
everything you paid cash for you wont actually do anything in this
game.
RUclips captions says
'kala d_p_s walter division st'
But what the FC said was 'Guys, Warp to double-U's in fleet' which means find the guy in fleet chat that's just said 'wwwwwww' and warp to him.
Come on bro, youre a goon?
suprising who the emotionally impaired turn out to be eh. He's a griefer and.. he doesnt get why thats not something to brag about
I dont think they weren't aware I just think that for every freighter you sunk ten other freighters made it through and made bank on a desperate market and the risk was worth the reward of dealing with space pirates
i'm a carebear, and i chuckled all through this video.
i value the freedom of action in the game enough to put up with organized gankings like this and other greifer activity.
greifers dominate the game anymore and i could whine about it at length, or i could just accept this and play the game.
hulkageddon and events like this are part of the game, and even though i don't like getting ganked, i love that fact that the game is truly open and free enough these events can occur.
i agree that people should have had a clue that going to jita, when people are telling you NOT to go was a bad idea.
so for me, and my too-uncoordinated-to-PVP-hauling-and-mining-carebear-ass i am willing to give up a bit of safety to gain a degree of freedom.
see you in EVE.
The mentality of killing a person is not the same as the mentality of blowing up a ship in EVE. If that were true then the people capable of ganking would also be capable or murder. It would feel just the same for them. I highly doubt that the people involved in online piracy are capable nor willing to do the same in real life
Ehhhhhh, maybe I won't get this game after all...
"And for 10 glorious seconds we are demolishing this target...that has done nothing more than be in the wrong place at the wrong time...we hope the tears that perhaps we gain, the rage that we induce will be worth every ISK that we unleash upon it."
Hahaha GLORIOUS! =D
Scott, I have been shown so many games I would never have known about otherwise by you (KSP, Planet Explorers, AntiChamber) I would love to see a video of yours detailing your favorite indie games. Fly safe!
"They're not reading the forums, or keeping up with current events..."
Yes, do the mental gymnastics it takes to feel good about making someones $50 of real money go down the pisser.
Ó Slatraigh no one is responsible for what happens to that money except the person who chose to spend it.
Remiel Pollard Yeah, which is why they're fucking retarded. :D
Remiel Pollard I've found games that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for to enjoy for hours and hours.
Ó Slatraigh $15 a month is 'an arm and a leg'? You need a better job.
Thankyou for putting your video in layman terms so us spectators can enjoy the intrigue of the Eve universe!
So are you guys some sort of sadists who enjoy the "tear" of people you gank?
Basically.
Goons play EVE only to piss off people. And if no one is near to piss off some one, they piss them self off
What if I were to kill a Goon, and became a goon hunter?
Xav X Then you should get a medal and songs be written about you.
Günther Lehmann
m8 u look so sad...
Well produced video. On point commentary and well spoken too. Enjoyable to listen to.
Showing power to new bros? Old corps are the cancer for this game.. gate camps station camps they just feed on new players ..
They make themselves obvious by whining when killed and are mocked mercilessly by other players for it, hence the reference to 'tears'.
object is indeed #rekt
We are here to ruin YOUR game."
-Goonswarm Federation
Seriously these guys are professional trolls back then and maybe still are, but seriously it is their fault they didn't pay attention to all the Eve news and got themselves dead. XD
its a game..them 3 simple words.
Scott Manley, the man of space stuff. Videos on today's space topics to video games. Is ganking in high sec and part of goonswarm. My life will never be the same again.... Lolz indeed
How about the time I brought my daughter into the Ice Interdiction - made billions from that particular endeavor
ruclips.net/video/S9XbbBtm26U/видео.html
You have made my day, someone has to protect those ice asteroids from those greedy miners
Waaaah WAAAAAAH WAAAAAAAAH
Nowhere in Eve is safe, believing hi sec is truly safe is a self imposed illusion. It is safe, relatively, but it is not truly safe. Nowhere is.
eve is a sandbox where nowhere is safe, devs dont care what you do in the game unless you hack or exploit game mechanics in a bad way. Be quiet or learn to eve.
Concord dishes out punishment, it is no way a safe area. the only thing high sec has going for it, is a deterrent factor
now that ive played eve i understand now, i haven't lost a ship atm but ive noticed something... if yall put it up in forums there are some unattentive people in eve :/
It does not, it keeps you alive maybe a second longer, but during that time you're jammed so you can't lock anything.
wait so you have to use really money to buy ships in this game...and the ship you guys killed cost $50 of someone's money that they (probably) worked for... so if I'm right then like hell I'll ever play this game!
Omg! Stop victim blaming!
;)
make him
as a newer player (it was like my 4th month) i remeber the original burn jita, i thought i was making a fortune looting some of those ships before smartbombs got me xD
i didn't realize it became a yearly event (i took a 3 year break) this is awesome
That was the last video I watched from you. The whole mentality you and Goonswarm presents is just repulsive to me.
I don't have a problem with Burn Jita (its part of the game). But Goonswarm are a bunch of alt-right trolls. I'm not Antifa but being of sound mind I also find them repulsive.
Great video mate. Looking forward for the next burn jita event :)
