Felix the Cat is a cartoon character created in the silent film era. His black body, white eyes, and giant grin, coupled with the surrealism of the situations in which his cartoons place him, combine to make Felix one of the most recognized cartoon characters in film history. Felix was the first character from animation to attain a level of popularity sufficient to draw movie audiences.
In 2004, Felix was voted among the 100 Greatest Cartoons in a poll conducted by the British television channel Channel 4, ranking at #89.
In the same year, Felix was named #36 in Animal Planet's 50 Greatest Movie Animals.
In 2002, Felix was voted in TV Guide's 50 greatest cartoon characters of all time, ranking #28
despite it being the 2000s, my parents still forced me to watch felix while everyone else was introduced to newer shows and I thank them heavily for that. I hope felix will make a comeback soon!
I don't remember why, but I remember watching this as a kid and I think my parents wanted me to. I'm very glad that I did watch it. I also watched Animaniacs for the reason that my mother used to love it.

I was a 70's child, so I caught this in syndication. Up with the dawn, tiptoeing into the living room with a big pillow and a bowl of Froot Loops, and singing along with that charming intro. If my mom happened to be up, we'd sing it together. She got to know Felix the first time around.

I absolutely loved Felix the Cat and still have dvds of the show, I was just watching some with my siblings, though I'm a 2000s kid and don't have memories like those Felix the Cat will always be in my heart. I hope to play the DVDs for my kids when I have them
I named my cat felix after this guy, and i would always sing this to him. This morning i had to take him to the vet to be put to sleep. He was almost 13 years old. Im currently sitting at his grave playing this for him over and over. 😭😭😭😿😿💔💔
I just lost my22 year old cat last year shewas a rescue cat had her at 5monthes old.Now i have a newrescue cat called Roxy she just looks like Felix i am sorry for your lose
@@gillianporter8492 aww thank you. I am sorry for your loss as well. 22 years is a nice long life for a cat, and I bet she felt loved. I had my Felix since 5 months as well! He and two of his litter mates were rescued from the pound on the exact day they were set to be euthanized! Unfortunately I only have one of them still alive. Both kitties died from an unknown sickness. 😿

I watched these when they were new - in black & white, since they weren't even broadcast in color, nor did we have a color TV yet - and in addition to the lyrics of the song, I also remember the shifting free-form atomic-age pattern around Felix's head.
"FELIX" was intiially offered to local stations in color AND black and white prints.
So THAT's what that is. I thought it was just his aura.

i live here in arizona and ann bennett came in my store today..she is a regular customer of mine...and i just found out that she is the one who sings the opening theme song to "felix the cat" cartoon...she also gave me an autographed picture of herself...another photo to add to my collection of autographed pictures of stars.

I don’t know why this popped into my head. Probably because my cat is a tuxedo like Felix and I just had to hear it again after easily 55 plus years! Still remembered the words!!
My teacher remembers felix the cat & the theme song.
On a day of the last week of school,
I surprised her with the theme song & she was so happy.
I want to help everybody who wants to return Felix.
And I want more movies, reboot/rebrending, vintage movies, more production with Felix. I just want him to be as popular as Mickey (even more popular than Mouse). It's not fair that mouse who took everything from the cat became popular.

You can tell that Paramount Pictures had some involvement with the TV Felix series from 1958 with the participation of Jack Mercer (the voice of Popeye from 1936-1984, who did all of the voices on "Felix" due to lack of budgets to hire more voice actors) and Winston Sharples (even as a child, I always wondered what the titles were of Sharples many background scores that appeared in "Felix" as well as many Paramount theatrical shorts, particularly the "chase" score with the tinkling piano.) Despite the low budget, this show was a memorable one from my childhood, and still holds fond memories to this very day. I always liked the crooked football-headed Professor who always went after that magic bag of tricks and failed; he was always a good foil for Felix.

I remember going to Royals games when I was a kid and every time Felix Jose was up to bat, they'd play this.
I remember listening to this whenever my brothers and I would launch the Felix Cartoon Toolbox application during the late 90s.

My Mom used to sing this, but I didn't know much about Felix. When we got an NES in 1995, we eventually got a "Felix the Cat" game and it was actually a lot of fun and pretty smooth platformer.

Yes... Despite being old, but not ooooooold, i watched this as a kid. Not on one of those fancy new iPad things, but on pure, vacuum tube powered, glorious, weighs a FRIKIN ton television set. It was painful, but worth it.

I used to watch this on Netflix all the time when I was 3!
I was a kid born in the 80s, grew up in the 90s with a combination of what was new on the TV at the time (Twisted Tales of Felix) and VHS tapes of the VERY old (mostly the cheerful happy go lucky innocent 1930s Felix, not the gun toting prankster of 1919-1929). The animated movie that came out around that time seems to have been mostly based on this iteration of Felix, which I have yet to watch an episode of but definitely ought to as thus far I like every single version of the character I've seen.

Long before Garfield, there was Felix, who goes all the way back to 1919. He was huge in the 20s, even appearing in an early television broadcast. Then Mickey Mouse came along and dethroned Felix, who faded away in the 30s. But he came back with this popular 1959 cartoon. It also helped end the negative portrayal of cats, especially black cats, in cartoons.

They didn't show Felix the cat on any of the stations in my area. My earliest memory of the Felix The Cat theme was from the TeeVee Tunes CD Television's Greatest Hits.

I grew up in the Los Angeles area in the 1960s. I loved this show most every weekday after school I would watch it.
There was a Chevrolet dealership in downtown Los Angeles at the time called Felix Chevrolet, with the cartoon cat as its mascot outside. Never bought a car there but I remember it advertising on local TV and then we drove by it in our journeys into downtown Los Angeles.

I was one year old in 1970. However, when I got older I also watched a lot of shows on WPIX. I lived in New Jersey which was well within their broadcasting range even with an antena. This was one of many shows that I watched on that network.
