RKO Radio Pictures presents Burt Gillett's Rainbow Parade Cartoon Felix the Cat in "Neptune Nonsense" in Technicolor Produced by The Van Beuren Corporation
Saw this one when I was a kid. All I could think about was how could Felix breath underwater. Still a good toon, then and now. Also, at 5:13, did anyone else notice that the mermaid was naked?
Well clothes would create too much weight and drag for swimming, wouldn't they? She was also trying to entertain and impress her 'boss'. And noone likes wearing wet clothes anyway. But thank goodness King Neptune kept his robe on for our sakes and for his own dignity as a ruler.
Yeah, I think when you're a kid, it's basically the same as a naked Barbie doll. You don't think much of it lol I'm just surprised my parents never noticed. I watched this quite a bit when I was little.
I used to watch this episode on VHS all the time when I was a little kid. I haven't seen any of the cartoon episodes of Felix the Cat in years 'til now
I remember my Grandpa showed me this on VHS when I was a kid back in the 90s. This cartoon was made the year he was born! As I recall, I remember at first having a bit of a bratty childish attitude thinking "Ohh, this is old"; but after watching it, I did quite enjoy it though, even if I did still think it was a bit slow. As an Adult though, I really like this, amazing old 1930s Music, and the Colour Pre-Snow White Animation was really quite ground-breaking for the time! And yeah, the Mermaid is naked ;)
@@zurvanmooney4940 got my copy on vhs in australian budget shop for $2 in 1998, but mine has hunky and spunky, a felix the cat old king Cole, mighty mouse vs wolf pack
This short was one I watched on repeat so many times during my childhood. VHS tapes of it and a few others were cheap and widespread (I believe this short was in the public domain already by that time? The laws have changed many times so it's hard to tell). When I later went back and saw the silent version of Felix who was more of a roguish scoundrel, and noted that Felix and his wife had kittens in some shorts, I basically chalked this nicer but more hapless later Felix to being the son of the original. The Twisted Tales Felix can be a later generation still, hearkening back somewhat to the original's tone.
Still got the vhs of this, now i do not have to dust it off thanks to you tube. Brings me memories felix needs more love, he also one of the oldest cartoon ever he 100 years old.

@@ricardohuff8774Well at least their legacy lives on in characters that ripped them off and stole their thunder. The worst case being Oswald the lucky rabbit, mickey mouse and sonic the hedgehog copying felix hard. People praised mickey but he was just Oswald as a mouse. And what's crazy is that even when people acknowledge that fact they still act like Oswald was the pioneer of those inkblot characters having a personality and gags when, if you just watch even one felix cartoon, you'll see felix already acted exactly like how 100% of the leads in the inkblot era acted 6 or 7 years before those rip offs existed. I mean I still love those characters but we all have to be honest and admit that you can easily switch the characters from their own shorts to another and nothing would change.
It's called cartoon physics, the same as with cartoon characters run off a cliff and still run into the air until they realize they're standing in the sky and THEN fall (or in some cases manages to run as fast as they can before they can fall, back to the cliff).
I remember having a vhs of random old cartoons, and this was one of my favorites. I’m on the hunt to find them all. If anyone knows some of the names, please let me know. I found only a handful.
After "The Sunshine Makers" there's this cartoon "Neptune Nonsense" and to follow "The Brementown Musicians" in the video titled "Felix the Cat Color Cartoon Hour"
So let me get this straight, before the reboot of the cartoons in the 1950s, RKO-Radio Pictures was responsible for making the cartoons in the 1930s. Also, back then there weren't worms for bait like the ones we have today. So they used apples for bait? Good thinking, Felix!
I saw this on a shit quality DVD and for years I’ve been wanting to know what episode it was.Now I Looked Up “Felix The Cat Fish Animation” And Boom My Memories Are Back!
My dad thought I would like these cartoons. I had nightmares for ages after seeing this and some others. Something about the odd animation or maybe Felix had eyes too large for his head? I dunno. Just creepy even today.
His little voice is too cute🥰
The same actor who would later go on to voice Sherman in the Peabody & Sherman segments of “Rocky & Bullwinkle”, funnily enough.

I guess the same reason as why Mario can breathe underwater.

Poor Felix
Forever stuck in cartoon purgatory
It had a run in the 90s using the same kind of rubber hose animation found back when. Sadly, the cat just didn’t have the needed standing power.
