I just noticed that Ben and J have sweaters of their initials like Fred and George get on Christmas, and at the beginning of this episode, they introduced themselves as Bonathan and Jen in the same way as Gred and Feorge 😂
I noticed it when Ben called himself "Jen" (I missed when J said "Bonathon"). Just now thinking that it would've been super funny if he went full "Jenjamin".
Theory about Hagrid dragging in trees. Hagrid was like "We'll give every kid their own tree!" and before anyone could tell him that it's unnecessary, he was already chopping trees down
I've always looked at Hagrid's work like this, not that he needed to do the manual labor around the grounds because...you know...magic, but because he WANTS to give back to the school and specifically to Dumbledore, however secondary theory, what if he's secretly using his wand to make his labor easier without anyone else knowing so his work isn't as hard to do and he can do more of it? Case in point, what if he used his wand to make the trees light, so he can get them inside in a timely manner?
@@Eshandist We know he uses magic for some jobs. He's secretly enlarging the pumpkins in Chamber of Secrets with his umbrella. J and Ben think Dumbledore was able to repair Hagrid's broken wand (since he was master of the elder wand), but I don't think Dumbledore disguised it. I think Hagrid personally came up with the idea of putting it in the umbrella since he clearly has an interest in woodworking (making the flute for Harry).
Maybe Snape herded Harry towards the correct classroom per Dumbledore’s request. Like “Severus please chase invisible Harry towards this specific room. You can’t get him in trouble, don’t ask questions. Do it for Lily. Thanks.” 😂
I laughed at first because it seems like the mildly manipulative/ endearing thing that Dumbledore would do. It just occurred to me that Harry and Snape would have the same vision of Lily in the mirror.
@@hufflepom Here’s what I think would happen: Dumbledore tells Snape the plan and Snape just goes “really? That’s your plan?” with an annoyed voice and Dumbledore goes “remember you promised to do anything right? This is part of that deal” and when Snape hesistates Dumbledore says “do it for Lilly” and Snape just sighs and rolls his eyes as he leaves Dumbledore’s office
We do need someone at SCB to take the books from J and Ben after they finished reading and make a quiz out of everything they highlighted as Trivia for JvsBen
In Sweden the mirror and chapter is called "Mörd spegeln" if you replace the ö with o it's translated murder mirror. "Mörd" backwards is Dröm which is translated to Dream. Starting to have tradition to listen to the pod as I prepare food for the week. Also, if you couldn't tell, I'm from Sweden.
@@corgimom5626 Yeah, some words are fun that they are unique for the language. Some words that comes to mind are Squib = Ynk, Philosopher's Stone = De Vises Sten (The stone for the wise), Deathly Hallow = Dödsrelik (Death relic), O.W.L. = G.E.T. (Goat) Acronym for Grund-Examen i Trollkonst (Basic Degree in Socery/Magic), N.E.W.T. = F.U.T.T. (closest is "futting", very little) Acronym for Fruktansvärt Utmattande Trollkarls Test (Terribly Exhausting Wizarding Test).
41:30 Ron has heard of Invisibility Cloaks before! He grew up hearing the Tales of Beetle the Bard and it makes sense the Hallows were a big topic of discussion between the Weasley siblings :) You can sort of tell by the way he discusses the tale of the three brothers with the other members of the trio in DH.
Yaaaaaaay another episode of Bonathon and Jen. Now I have Snape Snape Severus Snape DUMBLEDORE in my head 😂 An Australian 50c piece has 12 sides, Ron would love it.
I lost both my parents in my 20s so Harry looking into the mirror of Erised is easily the saddest moment in the whole series. In that moment I literally just want to pick lil Harry up, give him a big hug and tell him everything is going to be okay. The Dursleys really were awful to him. As for Hagrid and the trees. I like to think a lot of the things Hagrid does could be achieved using magic but Dumbledore is like "Nah let Hagrid do it," because otherwise what reason would he have for hiring him? I love Dumbledore's plan by the way! It really does make sense. I found that as a child I adored Dumbledore, but then as a teen / young adult I started to hate how manipulative he seemed, now even older, you can see a lot of the wisdom in his choices and why things had to be a certain way. It somewhat mirrors Harry's feelings towards the man too. He did name Albus after him after all....
Growing up I always saw the invisibility cloak of made of something similar to silk. Silk can fold up pretty small for instance. But because of the magic from death embed in it it made it fairly indestructible.
Ok one of my favorite things about this chapter that everyone seems to skim right past, is that Ron has the sense to not go back to the mirror. His ability to put aside his desires and his jealousies is such a huge part of his character throughout the series.
It has always been my head cannon that Dumbledore was testing Harry. He wanted to see what Harry would see in the mirror to assess his character so he could make his plan. For after all what if Harry had sought something else. I think dumbledore's plan would have been a lot different, if, when Harry looked in the mirror he saw what Ron saw because he sought Glory and fame whether than his family.
It's also fair to say that Ron wanted those things because he already had all of his basic needs met, whereas Harry did not. Ron already had a family that loved him, three meals a day, and all of the basic necessities provided by loving parents. He has the freedom to want more than he has, whereas Harry's basic needs weren't met growing up. He often went hungry, felt completely alone, sometimes accidentally using magic to meet the needs he did not have met (safety, bodily autonomy), and was sort of set up from the beginning to see family in the mirror.
Ron wanted to be recognized as special and important by his family, because he often felt overlooked. At the time, he thought those things might do so. That's rather different than what you are implying about his character.
@@mistv901oh Ron definitely wanted fame and recognition for himself. He had a family that loved him and instead of appreciating it, he kept griping about them being poor.
Hey, on the part about the Dursleys never showing Harry a picture of his parents; Lily and James probably didn't have a single picture in which they weren't moving. James being pureblood and lily being in the magical world since 11 to me says they never used a muggle camera, and the Dursleys hate magic.
Petunia should have pictures of her and Lily when they were kids before Hogwarts, but you're right, James would have no stationary ones and there would be very few after Hogwarts. Perhaps there are a few family portraits for Christmas cards or something. Either way, the Dursleys don't seem to reminisce, especially since it seems there are no grandparents or cousins on either side of the family. On Dudley's birthday, there is a mountain of presents, but not a single one from anyone besides his parents. Harry talks about being left out of Christmas, but there is no one celebrating but the three Dursleys. Harry mentions no relatives at all besides Aunt Marge.
1:00:59 Harry subconsciously knows who Lilly is because she looks the same as she did when he was a baby. However, he can't recall what Lilly (or James) looks like. 1:16:01 I always thought that Dumbledor wanted to be free of his burden. For instance, we learn that a sock can help a house elf to be free of his/her family that they are serving. If we look deeper into this, ever since the Death of Ariana, Albus Dumbledor has been serving the greater good. He fought and successfully defeated & captured Grindelwald. He stopped Voldemort's reign of terror in the first wizarding war thanks to his knowledge of the prophecy. Even though he has achieved so much, he still feels like a prisoner of his past. So, if he gets a pair of socks, he can be a free man (like an elf). If the whole book were 1 episode and the book is Order of the Phoenix. But amazing as always. What a wholesome way to end the weekend!
In Goblet Molly says that she got Harry green dress robes to match his eyes. My head canon is that is also the reason why his jumper is green. In the film Harry gets a blue jumper and Dan Radcliffe has blue eyes. I like to think that change was to keep with the matching the eyes thing. 😊
A "looking back on" video after each book talking about the major events that happened, favourite moments and things to look forward to in the next book could be a good idea.
I am so with Ben: There was nothing better than coming home from a day spent in the snow, being put in the bathtub and then pyjamas even tho it was only 4 pm and hot chocolate with dinner.
That is something I have literally never experienced in my life!!! I grew up in California and while I visited Pennsylvania often as a kid it was usually in summer once I could remember. If it happened as a kid I would have been like 2. We used to ski in the winter but we always traveled to the snow and were so busy skiing that I never remember spending a day playing in the snow. I have taken my kids to play in snow though and grandkids now.
A bit late to the party, but on your point about Ron at around 26:30, absolutely. Every time he leaves the party or gets into an argument with Hermione or harry, their forward momentum completely stagnates and they start to make poor decisions. The main ones I can think of is in Goblet when Harry and Ron are fighting. Harry knows he has a task and has a bunch of anxiety about it but he doesn't really do anything about it. Like, he doesn't plan for what it could be, he doesn't really pick out any spells to use, and the thing is he's been here before. In philosopher's stone, the whole thing is that Harry is facing the unknown but he has Ron there to say "hey, this is what is possible, we should plan around it and investigate." In Deathly Hallows, Ron leaves the party and between Harry and Hermione, they completely loose the plot. They end up going to Godrick's Hollow not because it was special to Voldemort but because of Dumbledore and Harry. I know they're looking for the sword ostensibly, but its really about Harry. (also Harry himself is the horcrux of Godrick's Hollow, so... kinda right but also not at all). Every time Ron leaves they stop thinking creatively for themselves and start relying on what they already know, and it always backfires.
This chapter hits so different for me as an adult. As an adoptee who has never seen images of my biological parents, the idea of looking into a mirror and seeing them (and them recognizing me!) all for the first time fills me with a strange sorrow that I didn’t feel when I read it as a kid. What an incredible gift, to be able to see what Harry and Dumbledore saw in the mirror. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some magical experimenting to do on my bathroom mirror… 🪄 But in all seriousness, thank you for this podcast. I am always listening to the audiobooks, and now having this supplemental listening is recreating much of the magic for me all over again. It’s such a comfort-listen for me, and to paraphrase Luna, it’s like having friends in the room ❤
You two are absolutely fabulous!!! I love this new series you are guys are doing. It’s my Sunday morning drive to church listen. Today’s really made me think how odd it was that Harry had never been shown pictures of his mom and dad. I really hadn’t thought of it before. Thank you for all of your content!!
One of my favorite headcanons is after the Battle of Hogwarts Neville sends Molly a list of students’ names that don’t have family and she makes them all sweaters with their first initial for Christmas. The ones with F have tear stains.
I'm from Romania. Everyday (except the weekends) I come home late from work and I play your podcast before going to bed. I fall asleep easily, in some way i feel like a kid again falling asleep when grandma was telling me stories. I miss you granny. Hopefully we will see each other again....
a quick british note that crumpets and english muffins are for sure 2 different breads that you can have for breakfast or as a snack ~crumpets are this chewy type bread that have holes on the top (excellent for melting butter into) ~ english muffins are more traditional texture of bread that are small and circular, you can get them at mcdonald's i think haha
Absolutely loved that the Weasley Twins were hitting Voldemort in the face with those snow balls. Those Scottish winters are brutal, so finding some whimsy with snowballs to the Dark Lord's face is always welcome.
Five Stars!! I'm in love with this Show, I've started reading The saga again because of this show, I just wanted to add about the mirror, Harry completely falls victim to the mirror in Chapter 12, I know you guys were very busy with the big plan, and I wanted to here your thoughts on this, Harry loses to the mirror as a lesson on how it works, I feel Dumbledore has to be in the room each time because how easily the mirror holds your attention. Additionally, Ron knew immediately that the mirror was bad news.
It amazes me how fixated some people are that Ron wanted to be seen as special and important like the rest of his family and use that to degrade his character. While also entirely missing how worried and concerned he is that Harry is going to do nothing but sit in front of that mirror for the rest of his days. You can tell he's debating telling someone if this goes too far. Dumbledore just found Harry first.
Imagine if Harry showed up to the 2nd task in Scuba gear because he and Hermione couldn’t find a magical solution. Also i’m pretty sure the screaming book can’t have horcruxes in it because Dumbledore removed them from the library and kept them in his office
This podcast is oddly stress relieving for me. I am forced to travel a lot (mostly on Sundays and Mondays) and have already encountered two highly stressful travel incidents in the past few months. This podcast often becomes the sole silver lining of those Sundays/Mondays
Guys, I'm listening to this in my office and you made me cry. As a father this touched me too much, but you being parents yourselves, and expressing this, broke me.
I look forward to Bonathan and Jen covering the next chapter every Sunday!!!! lol I truly love all of your content. I watch the J vs Ben trivia episodes constantly on near repeat. It’s really cool to see how much better y’all’s HP trivia knowledge has improved now compared to 5 and 6 years ago. Your show brings me a lot of joy and laughter. Love you guys!! God bless and keep up the great work!!!!
when y'all mentioned it I was immediately like, what if before going into the lake for the second task, Harry was like - "idk if this is cheating professor, but I brought scuba gear??" XD XD
I also noticed the plot hole where the second brother wasn't married. And no children are mentioned that he has descendants. I have a theory that he and the girl are already having a child before she died. Or perhaps she died during child birth. So he had at least one child with her, But she was killed before they could marry. The son survived and was likely raised by his uncle, and kept the ring.
20:38 I always assumed that books about breathing underwater were removed from the library by the organizers (Dumbledore and others) before the tasks (because you're supposed to know yourself, or something like that).
Review: this podcast is amazing I look forward to it every week. Every Sunday at 6pm I have a ritual where I make a cup of tea and a sandwich put my headphones on and listen to this podcast while finishing my weeks homework. Harry potter was basically my safe space in my early years of school particularly grade one/two the (beginning of primary school for any non Americans) - when I was bullied a lot and my escape and safe space was to enter the wizarding world and the fact that the year that I'm in matric/final/senior year of high school is the same year when this podcast began feels kinda poetic for me because I started my schooling with Harry potter and now I'm ending with it maybe when the podcast ends I'll be in my final year of university who knows. Anyways love the podcast so much love your content on YT as well. Through the gryfinndor is always the highlight of my week and has definitely helped me get through this final set of exams in November. Question: how far does magical healing ability go. So if wizards can easily heal most non magic ailments can they cure like cancer or heart disease or bairn damage provided its magical in orgion ??? If god forbid a wizard has a what can be considered a terminal illness it is just not terminal for them. in addition can they heal/fix functions of organs for example why are glasses needed if they could in theor just fix how the eye works like we dont know if wizard optometrists so where do they even get glasses. Can they cure deafness or paralysis? Also are they just immune to like the common cold or other common maladies? Something that has always interested me Love the podcasts love your content on HP and other fandoms your content always make me laugh smile and just feel happy in general keep it up. much love! Jacob
As far as "kids don't go that far"... eeegh. I knew a girl in high school who lost her mom to cancer and a kid tried to pull a "your mom" joke on her the NEXT WEEK. She broke his nose, he was shunned after that.
So one of the things I love most about the theory that the second Peverell brother made the mirror of Erised, is that it puts Dumbledore directly on the skill level of the Peverell brothers. The second brother creates the mirror by trapping a boggart in a mirror. Dumbledore figures out a way to encase the stone within the mirror. I don’t know that another wizard of the time could have deduced enough about the mirror and its inner workings to even think it possible. Dumbledore must have known the inner workings of that mirror intimately to even be able to figure out how to get the stone in it to begin with. It’s just fascinating to me that you’ve found such a strong parallel between them. 😊
Could the mirror have started as a qilen? You guys were talking about how it looks like it was transformed from an animal, and that animal is one that can already see inside your heart.
Heyyyy Brothers!!! You guys are really AMAZING!!! You guys have no idea just how much your podcasts mean to me.. This has become my new bedtime ritual.. ❤️❤️❤️ I go to bed every night with your chapter podcasts ON, and it makes me feel soo happy and connected.. Makes me feel less lonely.. I'm really grateful from the bottom of my heart ❤️❤️..thank you!! 🙏🏻
THESE CHAPTERS ARE AMAZING ❤! (A heartfelt nod to your ending videos) hi, I'm Connie and I'm from L.A and any time a HARRY POTTER movie or book finished I would quick look for you both. You surely helped me and I'm sure many others out if the depths of depression from covid, to the loss of family members and the harsh rejection of not being employed. My family was a huge help as well but during thise days of isolation listening to you made my days. Love listening and I want more H.P books covered. ❤ Thank you.
What if the lost child of Cadmus is somehow a child of Cadmus and the inverted boggart, that Cadmus was so horrified he trapped the boggart in a mirror forever, and set to work on a different way to bring his love back. Definitely want a series to answer the many Peverell mysteries
I've got a theory for the second task that the reason Harry couldn't find anything in the library is because he was the last one to figure out the clue and most likely Fleur checked out all the books with the information. You can tell the order in which the champions figured out the clue as Cedric first since he and Fleur used the same charm and Cedric is unlikely to remove the information from the library, and then in January Krum is seen swimming in the lake.
Hi! Although you didn't post this podcast on Christmas Eve like you thought you would, you did post it on the First Sunday of Advent 2023. So I was happy, when preparing to go to church online, to see your Christmas-themed podcast coming up. Concerning Cadmus Peverell: We don't know how old the brothers were when they met Death on the bridge. Possibly Cadmus had lost his fiancée a few years back and had since married another woman and had children. However, when Death presented Cadmus with the Resurrection Stone, and Cadmus conjured up his lost fiancée, he emotionally or physically abandoned his wife and children to be with this spectral image of his true love. When he died, perhaps his surviving brother gave the stone to Cadmus' wife or child, or Cadmus' family may have found it themselves.
I think Lily and James in the mirror, as well as all the shadows of Sirius, Lupin, when Harry is using the resurrection stone (or the shadows from priori incantatem), and Dumbledore in his head after Voldemort fails to kill him with in the forest are all parts of the magic of love and memory. The idea that someone is not truly gone if you hold who they were in your heart is the very magic that protects Harry, the same magic that imbues the portraits in the castle with the personalities of their subjects, the same magic that allows one to view the people in their heart in the mirror and with the stone, is united across the Mirror of Erised, the resurrection stone, and even Dumbledore's deluminator. They all work off the magic of love and the memories of people who matter to you even after they're gone. I guess reading into it as a kind of afterlife is one way to see it, but the truth is, the "afterlife" is never really confirmed in Harry Potter. Nearly Headless Nick specifically says ghosts are remnants of people who did not "go on" and have thus never actually seen what comes after death. Everything we see from those who have departed use the magic of a person's memory of that person within themselves whether they're conscious of it or not since, seemingly, the laws of love within magic are very deeply rooted in the way magic functions fundamentally - something that happens completely involuntarily within the fabric of the magical world.
I think there was a passage somewhere about Dumbledore taking all books about Horcruxes out of the library when Tom Riddle left the school. So the screaming book Harry opens in the forbidden library can't be about Horcruxes
Very interesting. I love how Ben is almost always doing the questions, more the thinking, and J is like answering the questions and adding humor to it! And why they employ people who hate children? TIME TURNER poisoning... I explain it some many times, but really, why thej don't have parents day like other boarding schools books has, for example?
So I Googled Magick Moste Evile and on the wiki page the picture of it has the screaming face and the description says that it "had the characteristic of letting out a ghostly wail when slammed shut" but nowhere on that page does it say that it's the same book as the screaming face book lol. Which is weird because in the pictures they look exactly the same.
I feel like the socks thing kind of also ties in with what he actually sees in the mirror, cause you know warm clothes are gifts that your family would get you? like how Mrs Weasley gives her kids sweathers so I feel like him saying 'thick woollen socks', is a fitting lie in a way
Dumbledore saw socks in the mirror because his sister knitted a pair for him every Christmas. Seeing a pair of socks would mean that she was alive and well. Cmon guys this is your theory.
A possible theory on Cadmus's child that occurs to me would be that the child was born of love. Let's say the his fiancé was pregnant and for whatever reason they could not or did not want to get married yet. The child is born and due to some complication she dies during or after childbirth. Cadmus becomes obsessed with bringing her back. He might still have been raising the child as he went through his quest to resurrect her. We don't know how much time it took to create the resurrection stone, but if Ben and J's theory about the mirror is correct, it was a precursor to the stone and there might have been others. This could mean that it took him years to complete the stone during which time the child might very well have grown up. Now we know that he succeeds in completing the stone and resurrecting her in some capacity and even lives with her for a while. I would posit that at the time he succeeds the now grownup child is away from home for some reason. When she/he returns to find Cadmus living with her, they freak out and make Cadmus realize that he must set her free. Afterwards Cadmus bequeaths the stone to the child and goes to join his long lost love. As a side note it occurred to me that maybe Cadmus was the only inventor among the three brothers and that the cloak and wand were only failed attempts to rescue his fiancé. For example maybe he created the wand to be very powerful when using healing and repairing spell in the hopes that it could heal or repair a dead person, but in the end managed to create a wand that could repair broken wands. Similarly the cloak might have been intended as a means of protection to be able to travel through the and come back because it hid you from death, the condition and not a fictional construct similar to the Greek hero(?) Orpheus.
Interesting concept I've heard is all the hallows are made from thestrals, cloak is a hide of a thestral, the stone is a petrified eye and the wand of course is the hair.
I actually think when he said "You will be ready to confront it" what Dumbledore meant was the crippling longing of those who have passed. The feelings and emotions necessary for Harry to walk into the forest, as it ended, would have been impossible without first learning to walk forward instead of stare behind.
Thank you a lot for this! I love all the details about Dumbledore's plan you talk about. I totally agree with you, though I have never thought about it myself until you first presented it in your theory videos.
45:35 - the tradition is normally to bake a penny into it too, not just any household item, so the sickle being there aligns with the British tradition
English muffins actually aren’t the same as crumpets. I had never had (or even heard of) an ‘English muffin’ as a Brit until I went to the US. Do you guys have a PO Box? I could send you some crumpets to try. They are great with honey (if J can ever find it 😅)
A weird thought, but does the mirror only work for humans? With the inversion theory of bogarts, we could assume it works for half breeds (Remus seeing a moon with the Bogart). And if that’s the case, how far does this go? Would maledictus be able to use the mirror? As a halfbreed of sorts we can say with confidence they can when they’re human still, but if Nagini who can no longer return to human form, does she see a snakes desires? Her desire to be human again? Who knows? I just love the idea of animals being able to see whatever they desire. So Cruickshanks’s would see a ball of yarn for example.
This scene in the movie breaks my heart everytime cause Harry is this really headstrong and fun person and you don't really see the little kid with no parents thing as much after he leaves the dursleys so this scene just really makes you think about it and it pulls at my heart.
Hi guys. I am absolutely loving this content and it’s my Sunday evening ritual to listen to the podcast now. This episode was by far my favourite and love how you went into the details of how the mirror of erised could have been created. If Tom Riddle was a descendant of Cadmus, as well as a descendant of Salazar, doesn’t that mean that Salazar was a descendant of Cadmus as well. (Or Cadmus was a descendant of Salazar, depending on age). I’m so intrigued to see if you guys can find a link between the two.
Love the fanficing with the Founders! Really, when you end this chapter weekly in four year, you can do a podcast audiobook series for your Founders canon!
What if the child of the second brother was a daughter? She then marries someone with the last name Slytherin. They have a son and name him Salazar. Perhaps the second brother had a pet snake that is still alive, and that is how young Salazar finds out about and obtains the resurrection stone. Even better if the second brother also creates parceltoungue as well and enchants his bloodline with inherent knowledge of the language.
I could be wrong but I think the founders were alive a few hundred years before the Peverells. I am not sure. I just feel like they were alive somewhere between 13-1500 but again not sure. I know they always say the school was founded 1000 years ago about.
@jessicabaum9370 He would have to have it out of wedlock because the Gaunt family is supposed to be descendants of the second brother which is why they have the ring at all.
A couple of things still listing to this as I type. My favorite outa pocket Dumbledore statement is after Rita skeeter wrote the article about hagrid in goblet and they finally get hagrid to open the door and Dumbledore is there and Harry calls Rita skeeter a cow he apologized to Dumbledore and he says "I've gone temporarily deaf Harry" Also if everyone was doing hagrids job for him he wouldn't have a job and a reason to stay at Hogwarts My favorite Fred and George quote is when they tell Mrs Weasley, Ron was made a prefect and she says "That's everyone in the family" And one of the twins say I think George "What does that make me and Fred next door neighbors" Every time I hear Stephen Fry I die I have to go back and look at the pocket stuff but I think stuffing the invisibility cloak I think he's sticking it into a pocket in his school robes wich I assume is larger than a pants pocket and if it's a light material like silk you can 100 percent stuff that into a pocket wouldn't be comfortable
The thestrals idea is pretty cool. What if the stone was made out of a thesstal's eye or bone Which would give the Ability to see the dead since you can only see them after witnessing death. And using thestrals to also create the cloak and wand
25:06 It is weird logic J thinks it odd wizards choose to play a harder version of a game. It is like why play chess, because it is easier to play checkers.
It's funny to be 9 months behind and listening to you talk about Ron's affinity for chess knowing the Ron is a Seer Theory you will come up with in the future. I wonder if listening through this I'll hear the theory forming as you make these videos
I assume the Peverell brothers are after the founders, because Ignotus' grave is in Godric's hollow. So I assume Godric had a town named after him and later on Ignotus got buried there.
* Wasn't prepared for J to just casually discuss both Potter Puppet Pals AND A Very Potter Musical (two of my biggest obsessions) within the first 3 minutes of the video but okay sure
Harry looking forward to Christmas made absolute sense because of the three friends, he seemed to be the one who truly embraced the magic of being magical. Hermione was too busy trying to prove, as a muggle born she belonged in the wizarding world, to really enjoy that new world and Ron just took it all for granted because he'd been exposed to it since birth. Harry on the other hand found it thrilling, overwhelming, scary and fulfilling. Harry seeing his parents/family for the first time always makes me tear up.
Huh ... I had to do a pause while listening to Dumbledore's description of how the mirror works and that "the happiest man would see himself exactly how he is" .... and it made me curious as to what Lockhart would have seen in the mirror ... or Umbridge for that matter ... You know what, just your guy's thoughts in general on most of the main characters would be an interesting discussion to hear at some point :)
I LOVE your Weasley Christmas sweaters!! I didn't get to see those just by listening to the podcast on Sunday (OBLIVIOUSLY!! 😂)!! OMG!! They're switched!! I didn't even realize that at first!! How funny!! 🤣 Are those your favorite colors?? Seems silly that I don't know this about you guys yet, considering how long I've been watching your guys' channel(s) , but . . . 😅 Also, remember that McGongall DID show up "on time" that ONE time before Malfoy could do anything; it was the morning after the Shorting Ceremony, if I remember correctly. I remember you guys even pointing that out actually in THIS podcast!! 😅 And, I think the movie did the Invisiblity Cloak scene a bit better; I think, if I remember correctly, Harry puts it on BEFORE Ron says, "I know what that is!" so Ron COULD see (or not see, as the case may be 😅) Harry wearing it. 😊 Also, the sickle in the Christmas cake is kinda like the plastic baby Jesus being hidden in the Three King Cake in Mexico (& maybe in other Latin American countries, too?) during Christmastime, too!! ☺🤴🏻🎅🏻🎄👍🏻
My head cannon/theory on harry found the mirror is that dumbledore confounded harry after leaving the library. We don’t see much from Harry’s POV on the journey to the room, it seems like we are suddenly in the corridor with mirror room. Then the next day Harry has trouble remembering how to get there and it’s only when he sees the suit of armor that he remembers where it is cause that is where the confundus charm wears off the night previously. So in essence Dumbledore lead him there via confundus like Snape gave Mundungus the 7 Harry’s plan in book 7
What shape is the invisibility cloak? In the movies is seems to just be like a blanket, but I'm wondering if it's more like a traditional cloak, that goes over your shoulders with a hood. Is there any specific mention of the shape?
I'd like some hints. Like fred and george saying something like: "we had a feeling You'd be here. Wood said you are the new seeker?!" Or as you said showing them putting away some parchment. Maybe while coming out of a secret passage or finding someone. Or planing some of their pranks
I wonder if the Library is THE Library in Great Britain. Since Hogwarts is so secure and has been there forever, it stands to reason that it would be the most extensive collection of English Magical writing. So, the librarian might be there to be an institutional librarian, not a librarian for children.
My headcanon is that over the invisibility cloak's history, some who have known about it were the ones to make copies, and so even though very few people know about the hallows, in the culture that's just what an invisibility cloak looks like.
52:39 So dumbledore wants quirrel watched, but he doesnt want to do it himself so he sends Snape to do it. But snape doesnt want to watch quirrel himself so he asks Filch to watch quirrel, and if you want to be even more granular about it the caretaker sends a cat to look out for quirrel. 2 or so connections off the markus padme rant unfortunately but it popped into my head when hearing that part
Thank you! I was wondering why they did that 😂
Shoot, I should not have skipped the beginning.
And their sweaters are switched to the one they said.
they also are wearing each other's favorite colors, which I guess is because the j sweater would be j's and vice versa
@@Eshandist Also, he's half-giant, so carrying trees is not nearly as difficult for him as it would be for someone without giant blood.
@@firestar4430 I mean repairing and disguising it are two different things so both theories can be true
@@tekbox7909 Yeah, I was building on their theory, not invalidating it! It's a good one.
I'm just imagining that conversation and that sounds hilarious xD
@@isaiahpinkerton3445 stop. I’m getting teary and it isn’t from the onions I just chopped!
@@GubbiGap I love it. How do you think that it would go?

I really like that these keep getting longer. lol Goblet is gonna be like 3 hour episodes
Hey! And we would gladly listen to 3 hour episodes

Now I have Snape Snape Severus Snape DUMBLEDORE in my head 😂
An Australian 50c piece has 12 sides, Ron would love it.
I've never understood our coins 😅 why is $2 and 5c similar size as the smallest and 50c is huge 😂😂
my favorite parts of this is all the time you guys get to spend together as family and how respectful you are to eachother.
I love that J and Ben use the Potter Puppet Pals voices for Snape and Dumbledore.
I have long had a theory that one of the reasons Dumbledore made Ron a prefect is because he remembered what Ron saw in the Mirror of Erised.
That’s a great point
Growing up I always saw the invisibility cloak of made of something similar to silk. Silk can fold up pretty small for instance. But because of the magic from death embed in it it made it fairly indestructible.
Me too.
Do you also spell 'canonical' with two 'N's?
-cannon- canon
That is a super interesting take. The socks response has always puzzled me.
Probably one of the most important chapters in the first book. One of my favorites tbh. I love this podcast so much wish it could be everyday.
In Goblet Molly says that she got Harry green dress robes to match his eyes. My head canon is that is also the reason why his jumper is green. In the film Harry gets a blue jumper and Dan Radcliffe has blue eyes. I like to think that change was to keep with the matching the eyes thing. 😊
So Ron has red eyes?
@@ThreadBomb he's secretly a vampire. Obviously
@@Hello-CE0 does he suggest the blood lollipop for Harry or is that Hermione? I can’t remember.

The ones with F have tear stains.

a quick british note that crumpets and english muffins are for sure 2 different breads that you can have for breakfast or as a snack
~crumpets are this chewy type bread that have holes on the top (excellent for melting butter into)
~ english muffins are more traditional texture of bread that are small and circular, you can get them at mcdonald's i think haha

I have always said that! “Accio scuba equipment!”
They discuss it in the book but decide it was too far to have it zoom across the countryside.

My personal theory on the cloak is that it is woven from both demiguise and thestral hair, which is why it's so unique and perfect.
Wouldn’t people have seen death then see the thestral hair though?
@@vinnyl264 Depends on how clever the Peverell magic was. There are quite a few spells on the cloak.
Something that has always interested me

Love how jay and Ben are very clearly Amazing dads
Wow such a cool thought!
@@jessknight456thank you! I think it works well, especially with their theory that Hogwarts was transformed from a dragon.

What a beautiful Sunday, right as this released It started snowing outside
I feel like the socks thing kind of also ties in with what he actually sees in the mirror, cause you know warm clothes are gifts that your family would get you? like how Mrs Weasley gives her kids sweathers
so I feel like him saying 'thick woollen socks', is a fitting lie in a way
Dumbledore saw socks in the mirror because his sister knitted a pair for him every Christmas.
I love yall and all of your content. Thank you guys for always making my day with your videos
Thank you a lot for this!
I love all the details about Dumbledore's plan you talk about. I totally agree with you, though I have never thought about it myself until you first presented it in your theory videos.
Years ago i read this chapter to my daughter and started weeping when he saw his parents in the mirror for the first time... it really hit different.

I feel like McGonagall punished Fred and George. Snape hates Quirell and I feel like he would let the twins annoy him.
My favorite outa pocket Dumbledore statement is after Rita skeeter wrote the article about hagrid in goblet and they finally get hagrid to open the door and Dumbledore is there and Harry calls Rita skeeter a cow he apologized to Dumbledore and he says "I've gone temporarily deaf Harry"
Also if everyone was doing hagrids job for him he wouldn't have a job and a reason to stay at Hogwarts
My favorite Fred and George quote is when they tell Mrs Weasley, Ron was made a prefect and she says "That's everyone in the family" And one of the twins say I think George "What does that make me and Fred next door neighbors" Every time I hear Stephen Fry I die
I have to go back and look at the pocket stuff but I think stuffing the invisibility cloak I think he's sticking it into a pocket in his school robes wich I assume is larger than a pants pocket and if it's a light material like silk you can 100 percent stuff that into a pocket wouldn't be comfortable
"Being in the snow is exhausting" Couldn't help but laugh and nod, as I was listening to this while riding my bike to work in -20°C/-4°F
The thestrals idea is pretty cool. What if the stone was made out of a thesstal's eye or bone Which would give the Ability to see the dead since you can only see them after witnessing death. And using thestrals to also create the cloak and wand
I've enjoyed listening to this so much that I've listened to this 😊 now twice
I cackled out loud right at the start when y’all gave your interpretation of Dumbledore in that old geezer voice.
Roonil Wazlib bit was so funny too 😂😂😂😂
25:06 It is weird logic J thinks it odd wizards choose to play a harder version of a game.
14:55 um actually... you don't use "vingardium leviosa" on christmas trees. For christmas trees you use "mobiliarbus"!
Awesome!!! I'd like to believe that there's a points ticker per house in the Head Master office that shows who gained/ lost points by which professor.
Its finally fixed! Love your work guys! 😊😊❤❤❤❤

So dumbledore wants quirrel watched, but he doesnt want to do it himself so he sends Snape to do it. But snape doesnt want to watch quirrel himself so he asks Filch to watch quirrel, and if you want to be even more granular about it the caretaker sends a cat to look out for quirrel.
2 or so connections off the markus padme rant unfortunately but it popped into my head when hearing that part
I'm never this early, looking forward to another podcast
I am pretty sure that it is mentioned that they don’t ask Madam Pince about Flamel because they didn’t want to blow their cover.
