Great video Raj, love your content. I bought a 981 Cayman S in March this year, and absolutely love it. Very good spec, and has the PDK. My brother even loved it so much he had to one up me and buy a 718 Cayman GT4!! Whilst the manual box in his car is just amazing and I would love one, my 981 Cayman S is pretty much just as fast and feels like 90% of the experience for much less money. And I agree it’s mid engine layout gives it more dynamic handling than the 911. Keep up the content! 🙌🏻
Thanks Simon! Is yours the very special factory colour one I have seen on Instagram yesterday? Thank you for following me on there too and liking my pictures. Mid-engined layout of the Cayman (and Boxster) is unbeatable on our UK roads in my opinion! Enjoy your stunning 981 S, Raj
@@MRSPORTSCARSPORSCHE indeed that is me! I thought I’d watched enough of your videos I would try find you on Instagram. Glad to see the beautiful C4S from this video has just sold too, what a very lucky new owner! Thanks again Raj, look forward to future videos, all the best for 2022 👍🏻
Great video as always! I have a white 2014 Cayman S with PDK, 20 inch wheels and sports exhaust. When I first bought the car I thought it was too loud compared to my other car, Lexus IS 350. But now I love listening to the Cayman engine noise every time I drive. Thank you!
Excellent review. The cars look immaculate and well cared for given their age and the UK climate. When I last shopped Porsches - it was the cayman and 911 on the short list. I test drove the cayman and was blown away. My initial reaction was that was “the” car. Then I sat in the 911 4S on the showroom floor and said quietly to myself - “dude don’t be weak - don’t cheap-out and settle - get the 911.” I drove and bought the 911 that day and after 4 years have never regretted the decision. I would have been very happy with the cayman - but there would have been that occasional, nagging thought “you should have done the proper thing and copped the 911.” Never has the thought arrived with - you over paid the cayman would have been good-enough….cheers.
Thanks for a very informative and unbiased commentary. I've had 3 different 911's in my time. They were great but sometimes a different driving experience is just as rewarding.
Hi Raj Hope you’re well. Sorry to catch your video but I was looking for a previous video you put up on buying a 997 Turbo, it was excellent, is it still available? Best wishes Paul/
Hi Basher, it is still available, it will be listed under the Diary of a Porsche Specialist playlist on my channel, is this the video you wanted, I have several featuring 997 Turbos: ruclips.net/video/jzVGGo417z4/видео.html Cheers Raj
@@MRSPORTSCARSPORSCHE Hi Raj, that’s it, thank you! Keep your eyes out for any 1.5 gen turbos in black for me please, sold my 46 now so good to go😎👌🏽 best wishes.
The 991.1 is the sweetspot of 911 not too digital, but with great infotainment (with aftermarket CarPlay) and a lovely natural aspirated sound. And has the best look with the 964!
Great video! Have had a 2014 Base Cayman and recently a 2015 Cayman GTS. The GTS was a gem... the sounds coming from the 3.4 was beautiful. After a track day in Vegas with a 991 GT3RS, I've sold the GTS and picking up a 2014 Carrera S tomorrow. Hoping itd a good decision although it's a Porsche and theres no bad decision
Lovely set of Porsche you are working through Cameron, for me the Cayman 3.4 sound is tough to beat, especially with the sports exhaust or gundo hack on the standard exhaust. Enjoy the 991! Raj
So which car actually handles better? Some people say the Cayman does but Porsche didn't want to give it away because they want the 911 to sell, other people say the 991 handles better even though it doesn't feel "on edge" like the 981. I don't get it, surely the smaller lighter Cayman should handle better and be more responsive to steering inputs? Less body roll?
Hi, is the width of the front trunk same as the 911 on the cayman? You showed that its depth is more but what about the horizontal width of the trunk space? Really want to know this thank you :)
Hi Rak, here are the measurements: 981 Cayman S 70cm Wide x 47cm long x 47cm depth at front & 62cm depth at rear 991 C2S 70cm Wide x 47cm long x 43cm depth at front & 56cm depth at rear Cheers
Great review. Looking at both of these cars. Based on your experience, curious on your thoughts of the engine/exhaust sound of the 3.4L Cayman S/GTS with the porsche exhaust/PSE (or exhaust mod on this reviewed Cayman) vs the 3.8 L of the C2S/C4S with PSE. Have heard that all things considered equal with having PSE, the 3.4/Cayman may actually have the better sound. TIA
Hi J .Turtle, thanks for the compliments, yes the PSE with the 981 does actually sound the best, 991 3.8 is good but not as theatrical in my opinion. I actually think it is best with the open top Boxster S 3.4 981. Cheers, Raj
As always nice review however correction required wheelbase on 981 is bigger by 24mm than the 991. One of the reasons , in addition to the mid engine layout, why the handling is more neutral .
Hi mate, why are you referring to the 981 as the one with the shorter wheelbase than its bigger brother? The 981 has a LONGER wheelbase than the 991... Cheers from Italy.
i have a 981 boxster S with all the good options, i love it but i also love the 911 too. ultimately i went with the 981 due to the looks and mid engine design.
I love the premise of this video. Would be interested in seeing the same but for the 987/997 generations. My cayman s is a garage queen and now that I’ve got the bug I want a to add a very well used 4S for year round enjoyment. Nonetheless, anyone who scoffs at the Cayman is only fooling themselves imo
Totally agree Tyler, one video to add to my list of future projects, I just need to find a good example of both, the 987.2 Cayman S are very hard to come by now. Thanks, Raj
It does look that way! It is okay for short journeys in the back of a 991 911 as an adult, or if you have young kids up to around 10-11 years old (depending on height of course). Front seat position may be compromised to give rear passengers a comfortable ride. Hope this helps, Raj
Very good comparison. The Cayman S is all the car most people will ever need. From a value proposition perspective, it's a winner..
Thanks Apollo! I love both but the Cayman S is indeed all that you need. Cheers, Raj

Another fantastic review Sir. A very prosperous and happy new year to you from a agate grey 981 Cayman S with Carrera Classics owner from Dublin. 👍😎
Thank you Jacob! Great that you liked the review, cheers, Raj
I chose a 981 GTS as I preferred the overall feel and engagement of the Cayman. Never fails to put a smile on my face!
They are phenomenal especially in GTS form! Cheers, Raj

can you say more about this exhaust bypass on this cayman? how do I get better sound without adding whole PSE package?
I don't know much more other than it is similar to a gundo bypass modification that you find on the 997s. Thanks

Cayman is more naturally balanced but the 911 has a lot of character too and gets under your skin. All down to personal taste really
Brilliant review, so real world. I can't get over the sub 5sec zero to 600 times. Phenomenal performance, thanks very much for doing this deep dive 👍👍
Thanks Isaac! That is completely my intention, real world without too many fancy video shots, just the cars and my comments. Cheers, Raj
I'm thinking of getting 981s, i use to have a 987s manual but i cant decide PDK or Manual ?!
Thanks Steven, both are sensational in different ways. Cheers, Raj

Thanks Rak, I'll measure them and reply on here when I do! I'm interested too now! Cheers, Raj
@@MRSPORTSCARSPORSCHE Thanks a lot! Will look forward for your results :)
Hi Rak, here are the measurements:
981 Cayman S
70cm Wide x 47cm long x 47cm depth at front & 62cm depth at rear
991 C2S
70cm Wide x 47cm long x 43cm depth at front & 56cm depth at rear

Great review. Looking at both of these cars. Based on your experience, curious on your thoughts of the engine/exhaust sound of the 3.4L Cayman S/GTS with the porsche exhaust/PSE (or exhaust mod on this reviewed Cayman) vs the 3.8 L of the C2S/C4S with PSE. Both stunners, but I'd go for the Cayman.
They are and I probably would too! Cheers, Raj

Thanks Odi, good insights and the 981 is hard to beat, even with another Porsche! Raj
Great unbiased review 👍
Thanks Steve for watching and the feedback! Raj
Great video as ever, both great cars but if your of a certain age there was only ever one Porsche 👌
Thanks Mark, yes I can see this impacting popularity of the Cayman and Boxster. I love them all! Cheers, Raj
Informative comparison Raj
Thank you so much Raymond! Raj
