X gaster wasn't overwritten, he did control ink though. He overwrite the multiverse...well he actually brought it back/revived it so he could go back to his au to probably kill chara and frisk.
Fun fact: if you listen to this normally then set it to 0.75 speed, it still sounds roughly like the original, kinda like a remix, and if you open the video on chrome and youtube and keep one at normal speed and set the other to 0.75 or 0.5, and then play the normal and slowed down one together at the same time, sounds even more like a remix. And yes it might sound like horrific earrape at first but it sounds good later on, to my ears anyway.
In Inking Mistake, there is a section that s a sped up version of this. Maybe that it was a filler for the part where this song cuts in and when this ends, Inking Mistake plays again. If I'm right... you are really sly Nyx.
