I haven't seen anyone bring this up yet, but all of Gaster's attacks here are mental, literally. Everyone else who has ever tried to oppose the genocidal protagonist has gone for physical attacks, attempting to flat out kill the person. Gaster knows this doesn't work, so he tries something different. He breaks you upon an unbreakable wall. The one who deals the final blow to you is YOU.

I love how despite Gaster doing something positive there’s still an undercurrent of ominousness-largely given the implication he now sees himself as God-mainly the lyric about his will being done and the allusion to Amazing Grace (‘once I was lost but now I’m found’). Also digging the subtle implication that every time you get ‘but nobody came’ Gaster was trying to manifest to kick your ass.
Yup. The line "My will be done!" is classic god-speak. The thing is, Gaster is embedded into the "code" of the Undertale universe. If he can manipulate the events and outcomes of the "real" world governed by said code, he is a god of sorts.
It’s almost poetic how Tom Previte is the voice actor for Gaster and most of the choruses. It symbolizes how Gaster is watching you throughout your entire journey. Just like how the chorus is in most of the videos in Undertale the musical.

I think the best part about all of this is that Gaster isn't the one to kill Frisk, but he lets Frisk do the job, instead. Gaster is a reality warping being who exists outside of time itself. At any point, if he had wanted to, he could've killed Frisk then and there, but no, he instead gives Frisk the opportunity to attack. He's giving Frisk another chance. If Frisk had just chosen not to attack, they'd be perfectly fine, however, their unending genocide killed them

Interesting tidbit. At 3:01 the lyrics are "Through the fire and the Flames, they've forgotten my name." Remember how Gaster fell *into* the CORE? Well, in "CORE" from UNDERTALE the Musical, there's a line in the chorus that goes: "Through the fire and the flame, you will see something very strange." I *might* be reading too much into it, but It's incredible attention to detail if intentional. Consistency wise I mean.
It's not only the fact that we killed monsters he loves - it's possible that Gaster was alive when Asriel and Chara were alive, and that he looked after Chara's injuries from their fall as the closest thing to a doctor the Underground had, and that he cared for Chara at least as much as the rest of the Underground did with them being a symbol of hope, and possibly that he was a close family friend of the Dreemurrs and cared for Chara deeply. And we the player just destroyed Chara; we brought them back to life, yes, but we also turned them into an evil one-dimensional personification of violence in video games when they were a child who did not deserve any of this, we made Chara's horrible fate of dying then Asriel being killed even worse! Gaster would hate us for that alone!

I like to think the final bit where Frisk stabs themselves is symbolic of Frisk/Chara committing suicide because Gaster's torture did what no one else could: Break their determination.
Part of what I like about this song is that it is the complete version of what sans tried to accomplish. To be an unbeatable foe. Sans kept his "ultimate attack" to be unbeatable but didn't have the power to keep the human there forever. Gaster however is the perfected formula. If he truly could stop you as soon as you arrived he could prevent all the death. Thus the line "I am the hero that never came" is even more impactful.
Holy shit, this sounds like the theme song of a Disney villain. Also, I love the way Tom Previte sings as Gaster, he sounds almost frantic in a lot of parts, like at any moment, he might break apart and cease existing.

I haven't seen anyone bring this up yet, but all of Gaster's attacks here are mental, literally. Everyone else who has ever tried to oppose the genocidal protagonist has gone for physical attacks, attempting to flat out kill the person.
Gaster knows this doesn't work, so he tries something different.

Gaster is portrayed as an unbeatable opponent, and wouldnt that be frustrating as all hell? The player finally thinks they land a hit and all of a sudden, they realize that it was all for nothing.

I love how despite Gaster doing something positive there’s still an undercurrent of ominousness-largely given the implication he now sees himself as God-mainly the lyric about his will being done and the allusion to Amazing Grace (‘once I was lost but now I’m found’).
Also digging the subtle implication that every time you get ‘but nobody came’ Gaster was trying to manifest to kick your ass.

The thing is, Gaster is embedded into the "code" of the Undertale universe. If he can manipulate the events and outcomes of the "real" world governed by said code, he is a god of sorts.

I think the best part about all of this is that Gaster isn't the one to kill Frisk, but he lets Frisk do the job, instead. Gaster is a reality warping being who exists outside of time itself. At any point, if he had wanted to, he could've killed Frisk then and there, but no, he instead gives Frisk the opportunity to attack.
He's giving Frisk another chance. If Frisk had just chosen not to attack, they'd be perfectly fine, however, their unending genocide killed them

It's not only the fact that we killed monsters he loves - it's possible that Gaster was alive when Asriel and Chara were alive, and that he looked after Chara's injuries from their fall as the closest thing to a doctor the Underground had, and that he cared for Chara at least as much as the rest of the Underground did with them being a symbol of hope, and possibly that he was a close family friend of the Dreemurrs and cared for Chara deeply. And we the player just destroyed Chara; we brought them back to life, yes, but we also turned them into an evil one-dimensional personification of violence in video games when they were a child who did not deserve any of this, we made Chara's horrible fate of dying then Asriel being killed even worse! Gaster would hate us for that alone!

I like to think the final bit where Frisk stabs themselves is symbolic of Frisk/Chara committing suicide because Gaster's torture did what no one else could: Break their determination.

Part of what I like about this song is that it is the complete version of what sans tried to accomplish. To be an unbeatable foe. Sans kept his "ultimate attack" to be unbeatable but didn't have the power to keep the human there forever. Gaster however is the perfected formula. If he truly could stop you as soon as you arrived he could prevent all the death. Thus the line "I am the hero that never came" is even more impactful.
Holy shit, this sounds like the theme song of a Disney villain.
Also, I love the way Tom Previte sings as Gaster, he sounds almost frantic in a lot of parts, like at any moment, he might break apart and cease existing.
He could easily replace Scar's voice from the Lion King and I wouldn't argue
