Making an excellent BMW even better. My 2015 R1200 RT was totaled when I was rear-ended by an elderly driver. I was trapped behind a moving van at a traffic signal. I saw her coming in the mirrors, and all I could do was hold on and be knocked into the back of the van. When the bike tipped over, the optional crash bars kept my foot from being injured. After a year of hiatus, I am ready to get the new 1250, and will add all of the accessories again and ride on. This review is excellent, reflecting all of my own positive experiences. I never experienced anything other than positive reactions riding the RT.
Absolutely, hands down, this is the best review of the BMW R1250 RT that I have ever seen. I am now subscribed. Thank you for putting the time and effort into this video.
-Really nice comprehensive review. I recently bought one of these and after owning it for about 2 weeks was rear ended by a drunk driver on the highway. I am now in the process of getting it replaced and recovering from my injuries. Fastest time I have ever replaced a motorcycle! At this point I could have bought another model or even a different brand however I will go with the same thing.
I had the 1200rt and loved every minute and every mile. What an amazing machine. An elderly woman rear ended me at a traffic stop and rammed me into the back of a moving van. I had the optional crash bars that saved my right foot when the bike fell over after hitting the van. It totaled the bike, but not me, so I will either get another RT or a KTM Duke. Bikes are very personal things, and every person should get what is right for them. The RT was absolutely perfect in every way for me.
I have subscribed to quite a few motorcycle reviewers, but this has to be the most informative and best filmed review I've seen yet. Thumbs up and subscribed. Time to start culling a few of the other reviewers.
What a great in depth review. I really enjoy your review . Keep up your excellent work . You have made more incline to buythis model . Thank you from Australia 🇳🇿
I bought mine in March 2019 specifically for two-up riding and it excels at that. The bike is also a great solo-riding experience. Thanks for your review; it is the most useful one out there. I have fitted ZTechnik z7106-002 Engine Bars.
Your presentation was excellent; perhaps the best I have seem; and I watch a lot of reviews. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with this bike!
Having owned numerous BMWs over the years beginning with a 79 R 65, a 2015 RT, and now currently riding the 2019 RT 1250. I’ve ridden thousands of trouble free miles on these bikes over the years. Really am enjoying the 1250.
Wish I could say the same. 8 months and 4200 miles into my 18' RT and the rear shock just froze stiff. Been at the dealer now for 4 days and BMW still hasn't decided that the shock needs to be replaced under warranty. Before this happened I was singing great praises for the RT. Hope to be doing so again...soon!
Doug Stewart sorry to hear about your RT. I remember when the 2014 model was initially released there was a problem with the rear shock. If I recall they recalled all the RTS to address the problem. Your bike should be under warranty, I’d fight it the bike wasn’t covered. I did have driveshaft issues with my 2007 R1200 R. Thankfully BMW fixed the issue after 90 dsys🤬
Excellent review 👍 I will update mine when they get rid of that ariel & replace the dash with a newer TFT, then it would be 100% perfect (95% there BMW)
Very good information on this fabulous motorcycle. You made an error regarding the headlights, though. The centre light is the low beam. The two bulbs inside the ring lights are the high beams. Good video!
Excellent review thank you. My current ride is a 2007 K1200LT. Although a heavyweight bike she’s light on the move. If there has to be a downside it’s BMW are high maintenance and expensive if reliant on a dealership to do the service or repairs. That aside the most comfortable touring bike at least to me. Maybe one day I’ll try the boxer RT but I’ll have to get passed the engine sound first it doesn’t inspire me so far on video audio.
Review: 👍👍 👏👏👏!!! Thanks. Many people have complaints about or don't like the look of the front fairing. It is very effective at keeping the wind blast off the rider and making the rider comfortable while sitting in a bubble of calm air. Personally, I LIKE the looks of the front fairing but I am probably in the minority of opinions on that. As for the rest of the bike, there are less than a handful of bikes that offer more comfort and convenience features than the RT. But the Best Part? The impeccable Handling. Want to really lean it over in the corners? The bike will scrape the peg feelers without complaint. Want to tour and cover miles and miles of road and still feel fresh at the end of your trip? The RT will be happy to comply. Perfect? Not quite but very, very close. Cheers. 🥂🍻
Paul Settle With what’s currently going on in the world, I would not count on it happening but if in fact it does, I’ll be very interested in the changes that BMW comes up with. At the very top of the list though would be incorporating a lock for the Navigator unit that is part of the central locking system of the bike that is not an option but part of the base level bike.

Fantastic in-depth review - thank you! Would you feel comfortable riding the RT on unmade (gravel) roads for any distance? If you could only choose one bike, where 95% of your riding was tarmac, but you occasionally needed to tackle unmade roads (gravel); which would you choose between the RT and a GSA? Many thanks for your thoughts.. :-)
Idk why they didn’t put a tft display on it. I mean the premium lineups of bwm has it. I think they’re gonna have a refresh model with 1250 RT with tft display and led light next year
@@nadadawg but the goldwing hides it weight better, because that flat 6 engine is much lower down. COG is much lower on the wing, making the bike "feel" much lighter than it actually is.

Nice video and well presentation but I'm in disagree with the title, to talk about the king of touring, this model is the K 1600 GTL buddy, ride safe!!!!
To bad they are so far behind on technology, compared with a new Goldwing. Bulbs for lights instead of LED's, analog gauges instead of digital. Really hasn't change much from 2014 R1200RTW I own a 2016 R1200RT I replaced all my bulbs with LED lights and added Erica clearwater lights. 170k miles still running strong.
I had a 2014 R1200RT did 40,000 miles and it corroded away any residuals until BMW offered £4K for trade in. There’s no real opposition imho so went for R1250RT, quick shift, engine & gearbox are big improvements preferred the suspension on the 1200
BMW is using these type of side cases for many-many years. There is no problem with them at all... With the 3 factory-boxes Yamaha doesn't even allow to use the FJR, because high-speed stability is disturbed... ;-)
@@OnroadDotBike: Absolutely! They're wonderful cases, they just fit poorly and rattle. With every bump in the road they clunk, clunk, clunk. I can grab them with two hands and jiggle them all over the place. Yes, they're super secure in the sense that they're not going to fall off, but they sure sound like it. I just cannot stand the boxer engine. If that thing was laid down at speed, you will need a new engine, plus it is ugly. Now if they had done an in-line four, then I would have considered it. So I bought the runner up to it and bought the 2020 Yamaha FJR 1300 es.
