    The morin khuur has three strings; two on the instrument and one in your heart.

      You are right. Mongolian people talk that Morin Khuur's sound/tone depends on the musician who is playing horse fiddle. It means anyone who can feel the music instruments and tone/sound of horse fiddle, that musician can play very well.

    Mongolian morin khuur /horse fiddle/ is amazing instrument. It can says everything only using 2 chords. Morin khuur always talks about Mongolian horses and their galloping, Mongolian wide beautiful lands and kindly Mongolian nation.

    • @bearsbugs

      It is a beautiful sounding instrument, but they talk of more than only horses, I've heard more than one artist pull a very realistic wolf howl out of their morin khuurs too.

    This instrument has captivated me in a way few instruments ever could. I play the piano and the violin and I'm desperately longing to own one of these, even going as far as to try to construct one with my own two hands. As time went by I realized this wasn't going to happen.
    Such a shame they're so expensive, not something a poor student like me could afford anytime soon. Perhaps in the future I'll get my hands on one of these things, I'd be so happy.
    Great performance this, wonderful sound.

      I have made my own Morin Khuur, it's taken me about 1-2 weeks and I used materials I had lying around and spent no money. I think it is easier than you think and can be done for a very low price depending on what tools you have. I constructed mine almost completely with a miter saw and a bottle of gorilla glue.

      Hi there, just wanted to comment this even tho half a year passed hehe. Sooo... here we go ( a para that I wrote despite having a paper due in few hours- typical student activity haha)
      Morin khuur is not just a simple instrument, it has a long tradition and deep culture that belongs to Great Mongolia - a country that once ruled the world... For ancient Mongolians, horse was not just a pet or ride- it was a friend, partner, companion. Child were given horse as a gift (usually when turning 3 where they also held a hair ceremony) and grow up with it, relying on it at times. Although many argue on the origin of this instrument, many legends somehow agree about Mongolian man making this instrument grieving after his beloved horse. 2 strings and bow are all made of horse tail hair just like (historic and and still in use) banners of Mongolia. The top part- carefully carved horse head and strings made from horse tail hair- this instrument was made to glorify Mongolian mans greatest companion that helped in many ways- a horse. Even now, every family has at least one Morin Khuur at home thats usually given as a wedding gift by relatives and people should play it at least once a year with kind of ceremony- "Javar urgeeh" which basically means to keep cold away during upcoming winter and it gives the house refreshing sound and enlightens people. People sing a song with it, sing a praise with it and my favourite one- told tales with it which is naimed Hailal - basically after how people told tales for few days straight under candles light and how the cande "Flows" - I can't really translate but I think this word delivers the meaning of word Hailal, just in a less elegant way than it is in Mongolian.......... Thanks for reading :)

      Making your own morin khuur is possible, you just have to put your mind to it. We had no money to buy this instrument so we decided to make it ourselves. We didn't had any woodworking experience. First one turned out pretty bad but was functional. We worked 6 months for the next instrument and it turned out pretty good. We are now making two new instruments, concert quality hopefully. So we, two kids from highschool, were able to make this instrument. I believe you can successed as well.

    I had been playing Morin Khuur (Mongolian name) aka Matouqin (Mandarin name) for a year.
    My Teacher is of Inner Mongolian Origin hence I learn the Matouqin (Inner Mongolian Style)
    This is Master Chi Burgud playing the matouqin. Compared to Morin Khuur, the design here is smaller and has a different tuning mechanism. Matouqin is the Inner-Mongolian Style of Morin Khuur. Yes, Inner Mongolian culture has Chinese Influence.
    His father Master Chi Bulag, composed the "Thousands of Horse are galloping" which is one of the famous song for the matouqin.❤

    • @eaststorm1282
      @eaststorm1282 6 месяцев назад

      Please don’t call it Ma Tou Qin because it is very offensive to the Mongols no matter if they are from Mongolia or Inner Mongolia. Also the Morin Khuur in Inner Mongol was influenced by violin because Chi Bulag knows to play violin; on the other hand the Morin Khuur is Mongolian was influenced by Cello because of the Russians. So please don’t say that the Morin Khuur from Inner Mongolia is influenced by the Chinese. As matter of fact, all string instruments played in China such as Er Hu and Si Hu etc are originally from the nomadic people. The word Hu (胡)in Er Hu literally means the nomads of the north and therefore Er Hu (二胡) means the two stringed instrument of the Hu people.
