The essence of the Casino was exclusivity, the music, the scene, the life, if you knew, you knew if you did not you never would. From the first few seconds on the very first night, you knew how special it was, without really knowing why. The memories fade with time but the feeling will never die. One record can whisk you back in mind and soul to a night at the Casino embedded in an atmosphere that has never been equaled. There were many other places that were magical, but none could ever reach the high you got from the Casino. We were at the right place at the right time, and what a time it was.

This is probably the most accurate documentary made about the Casino as i remember it, from going upstairs first to look out over the floor to the 'final' 3 nights after the 'official' last night.

The Wigan council should not have demolished the Casino it was the biggest money magnet for the town and a reason for outsiders to come and spend money there. Then they destroyed it and lost all that income well done muppet council! Brilliant memories of the Casino, some familiar faces there! Northern Soul will live forever - take a look at todays dance 'shufflin' - look at the footwork - its based on Northern Soul dance! KEEP THE FAITH God Bless to you all and all the old mates now gone.

You could play a wham song, or theme from crossroads at 3am and the dancefloor would fill.

Not a bad represenation of Wigan EXCEPT that what came to be known as Northern Soul grew out of the Mod's love for dance music and in particular soul music and the centre for this was London and the south of England NOT the north. As the Mod culture died off in the south the scene migrated north and mostly stayed there but even in the very early days of The Twisted Wheel and The Torch there were people travelling up from the south to these allnighters. We all know that the northerners love to think that it was born out of their hard way of life slogging themsleves to death in a factory nd getting a massive release at weekends and that it was exclusive to them but none of it was or is because not everyone who lives in the south is or was rich, there are plenty of poor folk south of the M4.

Great doc, but I do have an issue with a comment by 1person re clapping. ...knew this was the part where we're 'allowed' to clap twice. I certainly never thought or felt like that at all. I just fell into the rythmn and frankly, I don't believe that most of the Casino regulars either needed or would accept ANY suggestion that they were being 'allowed'!

Say what you like it was the amphetamines which killed the scenes all over the UK and most important trashed any sense of style and taste. Hence "Theme from Joe Ninety" and "Quick Joey Small" and other pure nonsense.
