  • It’s one of eastern Tennessee’s hidden gems- the Nemo Tunnel. While the tunnel itself is the main attraction, the trail leading to and from it makes this an adventure worth pursuing. On this Inside Line, Senior Off-Road Editor Ali Mansour takes a break from exploring Windrock Off-Road Park to check out this incredible piece of history. Here, we’ll let you know where to go, what to look for, and what we learned on our journey through tunnel 24.

    Cool vid, been a long time since I've been in Tennessee, thanks for sharing. That red mud brings back memories. As you were entering into the tunnel I was thinking, those 40's give a guy a lot of confidence. I'd have fear factor turned up on just 33's and seeing that much water, in a dark tunnel. That old Charlie Daniel's Band song Wooly Swamp came to mind. Ha! Cool vid!

    The trails now have no trespassing signs up from what I’ve been told by many. I live about 40 min away. A truck was struck 2 months ago and there were rumors of the impending closing for months before that even. The city of Wartburg are trying to find a solution to the situation.

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 года назад +2

      I just saw the video of the truck being hit (which was completely avoidable). I hope they can work something out. It seems like they could easily block off the portion that gets close to the track.

    So, who has to back all the way out of 2 vehicles meet from opposite directions?

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  Год назад

      I think it’s whoever is further down the tunnel. The tunnel isn’t super long, and you can typically hear if another vehicle is getting ready to enter due to the sound traveling so well. Most people only drive the tunnel in the direction I showed in the video as it’s the quicker way to get to it. Unfortunately, as of typing this, the tunnel is currently closed. Hopefully it will reopen soon.

    As for the water depth, would a Sport S on 33s (no lift) be okay? I’m new to Jeep’s and have not forded any water obstacles.

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 года назад

      I think that would be fine. Just watch the weather and make sure there’s not a ton of rain before you go.

  • @davidmccarthy6061
    @davidmccarthy6061 2 года назад

    Ha! For a Subaru most of that "trail" is hardly more than going shopping. But that deepest water isn't something hardly any stock SUV could do.

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 года назад

      The trail is easy, but that’s some deep water! Maybe I need to upgrade my wife’s Outback with a snorkel and try it again!

    Have you ever thought about doing some Montana trails

    • @DrivingLine

      I’ve done a few on Ultimate Adventure and some on JK Experience, but that’s been forever ago. I’d like to get out west again and explore. It’s just a long drive from North Carolina.

    What's the etiquette if you someone is coming the other way? Is it wide enough to pass?

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 года назад +1

      It is not wide enough to pass. If you meet somebody in the middle, let’s just hope one of you has really good back up lights. Sound travels really well in the tunnel. I imagine if you just roll down your window when you get to the start you’ll know if there’s another vehicle beginning at the end.

    • @AdventuresAcrossUSA
      @AdventuresAcrossUSA 2 года назад +2

      It’s supposed to be one way. When you come out of the tunnel hang a left towards the river and follow the trail ,it’ll loop you back around.

  • @ChasingDreamsLivingLife
    @ChasingDreamsLivingLife 2 года назад

    Is the tunnel directional ? Don’t remember you saying anything about meeting somebody head on. ??? What if somebody is coming the other way.

    • @DrivingLine
      @DrivingLine  2 года назад

      It is not directional. Most people from what I understand go in the way that I did and then take the hard left to finish out the trail. I think the best rule of thumb is if you do face oncoming traffic, the person with the smallest group or whoever is the furthest down the tunnel has the right of way. It’s really wide, so it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if you had to back up a good bit. Not ideal of course. Also, when you pull up to the tunnel initially you will be able to tell that the sound travels very far. Rolling down your window, you’ll know real quick if someone is coming the opposite direction.

      I’m from there and what most people do is honk before you go in and if someone in driving through they will honk back and then you just wait for them to come out
