- Shortly after the release of his 1992 album ‘The Future’, Leonard Cohen had a long chat with Dave Fanning. The interview was broadcast on Dave’s RTE show on 21st January 1993.
Leonard played four gigs at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, on September 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th 2012. Cohen returned to the spot where he was reduced to tears four years earlier. The singer broke a 10-year hiatus from live shows when he performed in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2008. Concert impresario Rob Hallett who persuaded the singer and poet out of retirement, said he used a show in Dublin two years earlier to win his argument. The promoter and life-long fan persuaded Cohen there was a massive audience waiting to see him on the back of a two-night tribute concert ‘Came So Far for Beauty‘ in The Point Theatre Dublin on October 4th and 5th 2006.

I remember listening to this interview on my radio working in the OK.Garage in Stillorgan one night. So brilliant Leonard! I was a fan.I saw him in Dublin that time too.Me and some friends drank Guinness and Tequilas in the International Bar in Dublin City before going to the gig.The gig was like a spirtual experiece.Leonards golden voice and humility hypnotised the audience.A truly great night was had by all.💚
hat an ability to express his point of view and how he digs deep into himself to give an adequate and sincere response.
a true poet and a profound connoisseur of the human soul.
Met him late 70s most humble man i ever met !
I could listen to Leonard talk all day long, never heard a voice like his before and probably never will again
Me too.
@@dmgiova3788 me too
Try Barry White. His speaking voice was hypnotic too.
A beautiful interview, for these crazy days...
charming voice. I love him
He was a magnificent reader of his poetry, also (at least in his later years). A lot of his poems never truly came alive for me until I had the opportunity to hear him read them. Not for nothing did he write that wonderful essay "How to Speak Poetry."
You both have lovely accents. The vibe of this interview takes me back to a beautiful place.
He was such a wise man. The more you get to know him the more you realize it. I learned of him only after his death.
Such a thoughtful person.
He was a prophet and visionary, he had seen long before the inception of social media, how humans will be strangers to each other...and what will rule in the world is distrust, hatred and absurdity.
"I think the social contract between poeple has frayed or deteriorated or dissolved". Tellement vrai aujourd'hui
"Only drowning men can see him" When you're on your knees, when your back is against the wall, do you consider where you are, where you came from....that's when you see God.
wise. very wise
So much wise stuff in one interview. Can you imagine. Only Leonard Cohen could've done it. No one else.
The Future is a perfect album.
Change my mind.
Your assessment is correct. 🎉
R.I.P. Leonard.
You were right Leonard ~ it appears to be very much so.
6:44 This sounds terribly prophetic, doesn't it? (I am writing in April 2017.)
It does. Indeed. This man was a visionary genius. Love him, always.
I met Cohen in a park in Montreal but it saddens me so, so much I never saw him in concert.
I love Leonard Cohen x
Very talented & tormented soul.
CR's Video Vaults. VIDEO?! A bad photo and a radio interview is what it is. I love Cohen. Nota bene.
Tu as raison sur le terme "vidéo", mais cette voix, SA voix...
Beloved! And a profit!
R I P Leonard

Il est dans mon coeur à jamais.
Dear Leonard, 2020 we all have to admit Future is murder.
But first we'll take Manhatten.....
Then we'll take Berlin.
How can't people see the evil in Cohen's work.
Because it isn't there. There's stuff that is basically a warning or very serious about issues....but not evil
Because we're not literal Nazis, I suppose.
alright who the fuck downvoted this??
Why?
IrishBard Lol hadnt thought that far ahead tbh so I guess...to jump start a hearty debate over the likeability of said video in question
Apathy & jealousy are horrid emotions.
Both voices are sexy...:) Cohen is a life-long love of mine but Fanning and his irish accent.....
This is a beautiful interview, for these crazy days
