    Great video Jason! Will you cover the new Aeroad CF SLX // CFR and the Dogma F anytime soon? This comparison series is one of the my favourites on youtube ! best wishes from Canada

      Hey! I appreciate it.
      I am currently working on the canyon aeroad and the madone Gen 7 but all press bike from both companies are out at the moment.
      Obviously my sized channel doesn’t even register on their pecking order 😂
      I am confident I can get my hands on the new aeroad in the next 2 months though. Canyon have been good to me.
      Pinarello on the other hand are another ball game. I have been turned down by them a lot! Try to contact them again every now and then but still get nothing.
      I’m going to say it. I think they are a bit up their own arse from my experience, as beautiful as their bikes are.

    I'm enjoying this series a lot. Your direct comparisons of the bike you're reviewing to the bikes you've already ridden is something that big YT channels/magazine hint at, but don't deliver on. Great stuff.

    it might seem like hyperbole but this review is pretty on point. i have both a Madone SLR Gen 6 and a Tarmac SL8 and i'll concur with essentially each finding, particularly the handling. I had been on the Madone for so long that i was it was almost an odd feeling to be able to adjust line on the SL8 when really attacking corners. There is a sensation difference in straight line rolling speed - the Madone "feels" faster but speed / power numbers don't indicate a shift. It's almost like how tires that are over inflated "feel" faster despite the opposite being true on most road surfaces. The SL8 is WAY less susceptible to being blown around in crosswinds, that may be a factor in the straight line feeling by not having to consciously correct the bike?

    • @cyclingunboxed
      @cyclingunboxed  Месяц назад +1

      It’s a good analogy with the tyre pressure! I think I may use that one in the future as most of us understand that now

    J’ai eu le choix en 2023 soit un sl8 sworks ou un sl7 sworks dura ace 12 s.
    J’ai pris le sl7 car c’est juste un vélo plus beau que le sl8 ,surtout en taille 58! Le miens a la potence claqué il est absolument magnifique,je lui ai mis un pédalier et plateaux cybrei full carbone,6,9kg complet avec support compteur,porte bouteille,pedales (look carbon ceramic).
    C’est un vélo absolument génial qui a changé ma façon de rouler et le petit plus du sl8 ne me fera pas passer sur son design que je trouve mauvais.

      I am with you. The sl7 is a far more attractive bike. And like I said on the video, it’s not really worth the upgrade to the sl8 from the 7. The sl7 is still better than any other bike I have ridden.

  • @EddyCat1234
    @EddyCat1234 Месяц назад

    Great review. I have just ordered an SL7 SW’s at a good price. In terms of the SL8 having an ‘Aethos like’ rear triangle and BB I think this might be an issue for some riders coming off the SL7 and going to the SL8. I own an Aethos and an out going Emonda SLR and I would say the Emonda accelerates more quickly up a climb compared to the Aethos. I put this down to some flex in the rear of the Aethos (btw, I ran both bikes with the same Bontrager Aeolus RSL37 climbing wheels). The Aethos has other benefits tho. Anyway, I guess I’ll find out once my SL7 is up and running and then ride my mates SL8 which he has on order as a comparison….

  • @HeyWattsUpCycling
    @HeyWattsUpCycling Месяц назад +1

    your mentioning the bb being "stiff" but I have heard that it is NOT stiff when putting down the power and has quite some flex. Us taller guys always have more flexy bikes than the manlets riding 54s and smaller due to the size of the triangles so if a reviewer is on a small saying its stiff that will not automatically translate to an adults size bike lol. Obviously I havent ridden one yet so cant comment but thats the thing im the most picky about, were riding road bikes here not full suspension mtb, there gonna buzz and vibrate a bit but the last thing I wanna do is ride a flexy bb/rearstays regardless how compliant it is.

    • @cyclingunboxed
      @cyclingunboxed  Месяц назад +1

      The fork for sure is definitely stiffer. It’s the only bike I have been on so far where I don’t get brake rub from fork flex out the saddle.
      The BB area feels like it works with you. If you go to my shark analogy on the climbing section it just seems to work with you.
      The rear does flex but in a positive timing and forward translation way. It’s very hard to describe but easier to feel.

      I have been lucky enough to ride a few bikes recently and I still get it even from the same frame but with the 12s, + it happens on sram drive as well. (Same sl7 frame)
      I am personally convinced it’s the fork flex as it just happens on almost every bike for me when out the saddle. But I am still happy to be proven otherwise.
      It’s been about 3.5 years since I have ridden the sl6 so take this as a distant memory.
      I think if you still love riding the sl6, it’s probably not worth it. The sl6 still felt fast and flicky up the hills and had a lot of energy when riding it.
      Maybe if you want some aero gains though for faster speed on the flats I think it would be worth it. + who doesn’t love a new bike.
      On another note, I enjoyed the paint jobs of the sl6 and sl7 over the sl8 paint jobs

    I think the more aerodynamic a bike is the harder it feels to lean over since at speed the air is basically stabilizing it. Just a very broad non scientific theory but I think the bikes that are easier to lean over are not as aero as their counterparts, if you equal out the geometry and such

    • @cyclingunboxed
      @cyclingunboxed  Месяц назад

      It’s an interesting thought. One I can’t comment on myself.
      I do know that your magazine has only found an about a 4 - 6 watt difference at 45kmh compared to an aeroad or madone (gen 7).
      I don’t feel like 5w is detectable by the human body but maybe it does for bike lean?
      I am still of the belief it’s down to the bike design, wheels and geometry

    • @cyclingunboxed

      I would say it's part of an attractive bike. As I said on the video, the Gen 7 Madone and Aeroad turn heads because well, they look good. I also believe that most people like seeing their bike as they ride past in the shop window (this is what I called it this category) . In my eyes, this bike is less attractive to look at than those others because of its overall shape.
      I would 100% argue that part of deciding which bike to buy is; is it attractive to you? does it make you feel good when you ride it? do you like to look at it when you pass it in your house?
      That's what the shop window category is about.
      does that clarify a bit more as to why its in my review?

      SL7 looks better to me but I would rather have the SL8, mostly over the headset situation. The SL8 felt closest to my SL4 than anything I had ridden or owned since. I know it will get harder and harder to get parts for the SL4 but man what a ride.

      A few people mention this in my videos on other bikes but never in person.
      I think it’s my shorter body making the bike look a bit more cramped. As soon as I sit on a size 60 bike it’s way too long for me and the head tube sites far too high.
      I’m quite flexible for my height and like the drop.

      Unfortunately the best I can do is try and get across what the frame feels like underneath you and provide what the experience is like to ride the bike.
      If I wanted to be objective I would need some serious data collection that wouldn’t be viable due to changing conditions such as air temp, density, road surface, wet/ dry roads, gyro sensors for vibration and ride smoothness.
      As much as I would love some objective measures, they just wouldn’t be accurate. I will leave aero and stuff to Tour magazine.
