Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. After seeing your reviews on the Vevor hive 2.0, I've ordered 4. One had a panel that was cracked all the way through, I messaged them about the problem, they asked a few questions reviewed the photos, and sent out a replacement panel that I got about 2 weeks later. Great service! Great product!

Wow! Was not expecting that! Was at city hall submitting my wastewater report to DNR, seen the notification and started watching the video. I seen you pull out the jar and had to show it to the city clerks and they were just as excited about it as I was. I posted it on Facebook as well, maybe some of my friends will subscribe, at the least you'll get some views. Just a fyi, I don't have a refractometer so I don't know what the water content is, the honey was all capped. Anyway thanks for that, it made my day!

I might have to get one of those compost bins.
I just added some old tomatoes and cucumbers to it. I am busy composting already. It is well worth the 60 bucks.
At 13:00 you have capped brood and an opened queen cell. Taking into account the different periods for workers and queens to emerge, those capped brood cells are probably from the eggs you gave them to develop a queen.
I will know soon because I will be making another trip to the farm yard for inspections as soon as the rainy weather breaks. It's been raining for two weeks now.

I tell ya, I really like their industrial stuff. It is built like we used to make things in America.
I had to tell you a funny story. A while back you were stung through you pants. I laughed my self sick seeing you run on the video. Well Today I did an inspection and this massive hive was pissed. I was stung 4 times through my pants and literally ran away 3 times it was too intense. I had to suck it up and get stung while closing up the 5 box hive (honey still on it!) I'm going to have buy bee pants to extract honey this year - I don't think they were queenless as I saw brood (before running away!) so it's time to requeen this hive. My legs are sore but I feel your pain/shame LOL
They can get through wet cloths easily. You wold think wet clothes would make it harder for them to get you.

Last year I ordered a VEVOR Extractor with the electric motor (4 med + 4 Deep frames) and its a decent machine for home use, the downside is the legs are a little wobbly.. I prefer to not mark young queens because sometimes the bees ball her up or the next week she is gone.. I see you are using migratory covers on a pallet, I'm to the point of using less expensive woodware because the marketing glib (attic space or ventilation, etc) has little benefit. I do add insulation under the cover or in dead space and its paid off after severe weather much like your heaters.
My only issue with the vevor extractor was the one inch lip between the bottom of the tank and the honey valve. That said my Maxant was the same way. I am spoiled now with the Hillco which has the valve below the level of the botttom of the tank. As for the lids, yes, I am looking for a cheaper way to do this hobby. I made all of the lids and bottom boards for the cost of 4or 5 sheets of plywood. I will be building some boxes the same way this winter.
@@BugFarmerBees I bought one plywood lid from Dadant and its super heavy compared to pine lumber from MannLake or Hillco. My issue with plywood is it curls or delaminates in the weather unless you can get the stuff intended for concreate forms. Best of luck to you building equipment.
How can you leave empty hives around.....if I did that hear the freaking wax moths would overtake it right away.
Leaving old honey frames is fine. The wax moths won't touch them. The wax moths will always choose frames that have had pollen or brood in them. They are seeking out a place that will provide protein for their larva. Old honey frames are safe. I learned that from Mr. Ed who leaves all of his honey frames outside all winter.
May not be a good idea to bang on hive, the last time i did that they ate me up.
