In this video I give a short 10 min video on building a ground pod. I illustrate some of the parts and techniques needed in creating an awesome wildlife tool.

Just watched like the idea. Just one thing I would change. I would counter sink the washer and nut so your head sits right on the base. This would make it more stable.

en mi caso, la base es un plato de madera de los que se usan para servir el rico Pulpo. Un disco de madera en el centro y atornillado a la base y una rótula pequeña que me permite estar aún mas bajo. Precio de todo el conjunto no llega a los 5€, mas barato imposible. Lo uso principalmente para la fotografía de aves playeras.

No doubt I use this because it is much lighter than the tripods i have and much more compact. I tried sandbags and nope too much weight but the camera bag / duffel bag works really well..... Thanks for watching and chiming in.

That fluid head adds way too much height. An adjustable gimbal head will get you lower by a few inches. Other than that, great set-up.
Much thanks for watching. Yes nice think is with the setup you can put any head on it you want giving or taking away a few inches depending on the grass or foliage.

Nice and handy improvisation...I am thinking of getting a sturdy monopod base with a ballhead attached to it for low level photography of shore birds...thinking of imrovising it by placing it on a frisbee like plastic light weight material so that it can be slid over grass or sand ...I have a lumix G85 camera with a leica 100-400 mm lens...would like to have your advice if this is a workable option...thanks.
An old aluminum pan. You'll glue inside the wood disk with already the screw inserted. Done. And it's perfectly watertight and rust-proof. Can support up to 5kg like a Sigma 150-600 extended without loosing stability and capsizing
Yep Pretty easy, my newer versions have some additional add ons.... but hey you can make it work for pretty cheap.
Thinking of getting the SIRUI P-36 Monopod Adapter P-36 Kit-Tripod Base+Adapter for P-306/P-326 Monopods since I have the Sirui P-306 monopod ...and add to this the wimberly monopod gimbal head would give me the flexibility to shift from near ground level to Tree top level as the situation arises...basically want a light everyday set up...mostly i can comfortably handhold the Leica Lumix 100-400mm lens for stills but for videos and waiting shots , the monopod and Gimbal head will be needed to keep things steady and free the arms.

Yes sorry wow, I am using a 3/8 inch screw that is about 1.5 inches to 2 inches in length. Sorry for the delay . Hope this helps.

What is the purpose of Hook?
ahh the hook helps clip on to your backpack. When you carry alot of gear you want to be able to just hang it off of the backpack.
