  • stressful and challenging, but it's good for my English improvement!
I post a video Everyday! This channel is a diary-like channel of a Japanese student. You can see improvement of my English language skills.
I came to Australia on 6th April 2024.
I'm gonna stay here for 1 year with Working Holiday visa.
I know there isn't lots of demand for my videos without editing.
But I don't care about it.
I'll do it everyday for my speaking skill and memory.
I know that sometimes there are mistakes in my English and it can be difficult to understand, but I hope you will warm to me!
And please correct my English! It's so helpful

I've been following your videos for a few weeks now, and I think your English is getting much better. Don't be too hard on yourself. The more you speak English and listen to people as they talk to you, the easier it will become. Maybe you can gently remind your Manager to speak a little bit more slowly for you. Good luck and best wishes to you.

Hi! You seem to be struggling a lot. I understand how frustrated you must be feeling. I myself couldn’t understand Aussie English my teacher spoke to me, and I decided to quit my lessons. It’s quite different from American English, isn’t it? It’s even more difficult to catch if people speak with strong accent like your manager does.
You seem to be stressed out both working under such pressure and studying back at home. I’ve never even been abroad, so I don’t think I’m the right one to give you any advice about living abroad, but when it comes to how to improve your spoken English, I’m pretty confident that I’m the right one😊
Do you write often? You can’t speak things that you can’t write. It’s very simple.
About input, you might want to refer to something really easy for your level. Choose materials that you can understand 95% at least. You should both read and listen to it for your comprehensible input. Otherwise it’s not as effective as you might think.
I don’t think you should focus on expanding your vocabulary. You should practice making your “passive” knowledge active one to improve your speaking.
In order to make your input the most effective, you should try to read aloud existing natural sentences and short phrases or “chunks” many many times with emotion, and also write them until you memorize them naturally. You don’t need to force yourself to “memorize” those sentences. As you encounter more and more English, they are becoming more and more familiar to you. This is the actual meaning of “comprehensible input.” That’s why you use materials that you can understand 95% or even 100% to improve your output (speaking and writing.)
For your listening skills, you might want to use materials which are a bit challenging for you, of course.
If you haven’t done enough input - reading, listening and writing a lot of “correct natural-sounding” English chunks, phrases and sentences - your “original” English might sound unnatural and awkward. Many Japanese people who study English tend to take this “the more speak, the better my English will be” approach, but this is not right. Often it just makes their English sound even more awkward, and they don’t improve. This is because they don’t do enough “correct” input.
Take it easy. Language learning takes time anyway. As they say “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” But don’t give up either because your next breakthrough might happen anytime soon👍
