I know it's pronounced 'Hee-deh' 「ヒデ」, but for people unfamiliar with Japanese, they might read it as 'Hai-d'「ハイド」 (without the '-oh'). This could make them think the name means something like 'Hiding from Japan.' I'm amazed you had more than one. It's really difficult to find work in Australia (at least Melbourne) when it's for minimum wage stuff. I was misled by your RUclips username at first because I interpreted it as someone who was running away from Japan, but this is not the case. I am not sure if anyone else had this problem before. Hello Hide. So in western culture we are taught to ask how someone is feeling because it shows a person your interest in how they are feeling in that moment, it shows interest in break "ice" in the engagement being informal and more personal. It also allows for the two individuals to share something and allows us to bond in the moment and create a dialogue of engagement in that meeting. Its an Ice breaker. A lot of how we greet one another is informal. Hopefully that helps. Its very much a cultural thing and huge difference from a intensly formal Japanese way. 😊

Do not beat yourself up. All the shortcomings in you speaking Enslish will improve as you gain more practice and confidence. I would think you are doing very well sofar. Cheers

As a native English speaker I also don't like "how are you" lmao.

First time watcher! I'm not english, but i work a lot with aussies and americans. I also really dislike the question " How are you doing?" - they just expect a "good! and you?" response and move on, just part of their culture. If i get asked " how are you doing?" in my own country, you already have a very close relationship and they actually mean it and are interested in your answer and I will try to answer honestly
