We encourage you to challenge yourself and try something new, from a backyard adventure to an expedition. Although all outdoor adventures are fair game, AIR generally focuses on small sailboat or Sunfish sailboat sailing and camping, rappelling, knots, ropes, hammock camping, outdoor adventures with dogs, compass orienteering, canoeing, wilderness travel, outdoor gear, camping, hiking, and cold weather camping and survival.

Joni and I were hiking on a trail in a nature preserve along the NJ shore yesterday. The trail ended up being longer than I had expected, so I did what I do way too often: I took out my phone to check Google maps. Surprise! No cell coverage (which was a bit of a surprise just a few miles south of a large beach resort).
In this case there was no real danger. All we had to do was head east for a quarter of a mile or so. The Atlantic Ocean is hard to miss! But it reminded me (once again) of why I used to carry a print out of a Topo chart when 0:09 I want to go exploring, along with a compass. If I had done so I could easily have used a distant water tower and a tall radio tower to get an exact fix on our position.
Which would have been convenient, because what I had expected to be a 500 meter walk to the beach ended up being more like a mile.
Note: never leave your sling pack with the water bottles, sun screen, and sun tan lotion in the car because “the beach is only 500 meters away!”

Yes there were. That's why I also filmed this "10 ways to avoid mosquito bites when camping" video on the same trip: ruclips.net/video/9Zm8JYaNThw/видео.html
